  1. I think I would too...easier to find an OF than a C who can hit.
  2. Anything new? I thought the original prognosis was the middle-end of July for this guy. Not that it really matters, but I am curious to find out what happens with him when he is actually cleared to play baseball again.
  3. No, but he didnt have to be snide about it either. What i said isnt necessarily wrong either. I didn't say anything about him starting for Boston, if anything I said the complete opposite. I instead said he could probably be a starting player on a really bad team, or a fringe player on a mediocre team. I said its nice that a player understands his role, and that its nice to watch the guy hit the hr and really enjoy it. I said he is a lot better than other bench guys around the league, and stats aside I think he is....plus we dont have to deal with the bitching about playing time ala Jay Payton. I also said he runs the bases well....which I think he does. I make a thread to appreciate the type of guy he is, the way he plays.....and the fact that he genuinely enjoys playing for Boston.......and the response I get from BoSox34 is essentially STFU he sucks. I guess its wrong to compliment a good guy whos been struggling, and who has more value than his 07 stats show.
  4. Moron.
  5. Great to see him hit the 2 run bomb. I really like the guy. He keeps his mouth shut and seems genuinely excited to play the game wearing a Sox uniform. Even though his stats dont tell the story...he is prettty valubale to the club. Pretty good LH bat off the bench (stats aside), and plays multiple positions (1b, 3b, LF, RF). Also runs the bases pretty well. On another team he could possibly be a starting player, or fringe player....yet seems to be really happy with his role on the best team in baseball...... Good to see him have a great AB tonight. EDIT: ERIC HINSKE THREAD....COULD A MOD PLEASE CHANGE THE TITLE?????
  6. Unbeaten in his last 6 starts. I know someone has to go......But I really love the feel he has for #5 slot right now. Hes as much of the reason as anyone that they are playing this well. NESN showed a graphic that when hes facing another teams ace hes a little below average...but when matched up against another teams 4 or 5 Tavarez has had the clear edge.
  7. I would just like to say.......seeeeeeeeeee i told ya so! Seriously though, I wonder if the Lester talk lit a fire under Tavarez's ass to pitch even better than he has been pitching (which has been very good lately anyway). Good too see.....Tavarez is a very likeable person, and really doesnt deserve to leave the rotation if and when it happens.
  8. hahahaha, i was thinking the same exact thing bro when i was looking for a tavarez thread to continue.....sorry for bringing this back bud, we all make mistakes hahaa
  9. Lets bring up Hansack! He was sooooo sick last year!!!! Kidding, I think after his performances this year....that uproar has kind of faded. I would not be opposed to Gabbard coming up...ive liked what ive seen from the kid. Plus hes lefty, and we never see lefty starting pitching in Boston (besides Lester......and ahhhh Bruce Hurst).
  10. buddy....those are the #5 starters for every team in the AL.....dress it up as you like, but those are the facts man..... Edit: not to be a jerk......but that is the reality of the #5 starter.
  11. 5th starters in the AL Sorted by---ERA---W-L-----IP *Nate Robertson 5.07 4-6 65.7 SP *Cliff Lee 5.46 4-4 57.7 SP Javier Vazquez 4.39 3-5 84.0 SP Scott Elarton 9.17 2-3 35.3 SP Bartolo Colon 6.17 6-3 65.7 SP Sidney Ponson 6.93 2-5 37.7 SP Scott Baker 7.33 1-2 27.0 SP Matt DeSalvo 5.87 1-3 23.0 SP *Kei Igawa 7.63 2-1 30.7 Dallas Braden 6.41 1-3 9.7 *Horacio Ramirez 6.47 4-2 40.3 SP Jeff Weaver 10.97 0-6 32.0 SP Jae Weong Seo 8.13 3-4 52.0 SP Kevin Millwood 7.62 3-6 54.3 SP *Gustavo Chacin 5.60 2-1 27.3 SP Julian Tavarez 4.97 4-4 67.0 Any day of the week I take that brother....any day of the week.
  12. Which is better than.......almost every team in baseballs 5th man. EDIT: Most teams dont even have a number 5 starter. They have a consistant revolving door of 5th starters because they suck so bad. At least Tavarez is consistant.
  13. Sorry to bump a thread from over a year ago, but I didnt want to start a new thread if I didnt have to. Who wants to make a bet he pitches his ass off tonight knowing that Lester will most likely be brought up next week? Heres to Julian! Youve been a lot better than I expected.....and hopefully youre on your "A" game 2nite!
  14. You do realize his pretty successful career has almost all came out of the bullpen correct? Of the 712 games hes pitched in during his career...only 97 of them have been starts, and I also believe his career WP as a starter is around .500, and you also know that his ERA as a SP is around 5 right? Pitching Role I Split G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA +-+------------+----+---+---+---+---+---+ Starter 97 97 0 35 32 0 2 0 527.2 5.03 Relief 615 0 157 46 31 22 0 0 719.1 3.89 added splits
  15. Last night, watching the game when we had the 1-0 lead heading into the third....as I was watching him pitch, he just looked old. His body language told the story also. He just moved around sluggish, his arm speed looked sluggish, hell he even looked sluggish taking signs from home plate. Just looking at him on the mound......not even throwing the ball or velocity wise.....made me think he was old. I wonder if there is something wrong....there has to be right, because something about his performance last night....and a week ago made me think there is something wrong. I think it can be a couple of things.... A) Hes hurt B: Hes old C) That POS changeup hes throwing sucks and its getting rocked. D) Missing location with his fastball.....or fatball after last night. E) Maybe there is still some letdown about the no-hitter a little while back..... I am not sure this should be a huge concern though. We know Curt Schilling.....hes sitting in the locker room right now looking for any way possible to get amped up again. He LOVES it when people question him and his ability. He wants us to write him off and say hes done and all washed up. IMO the things that are bothering Curt are options C,D and E from above....and I think he will get back on track soon.
  16. Fred, thats not a very good example. Willie Harris is 29 years old, and even with his .382 batting average this year.....he is still only a .254 hitter who gets on base at a .321 clip. Hes a versatile spare part, thats all.
  17. Well, using that logic says we should send Dustin Perdoia down 2morrow because of the season he had last year in a 31 game period.
  18. seabeach with the classic triple post........nice
  19. I think this is a snowball effect jack....There arent runners on base, there is no pressure on the pitchers, so they arent seeing as many hittable pitches. Manny and David are much harder to pitch to from the stretch, with runners on base or with runners in scoring position. A lot of times David gets up with 2 outs already......then Manny leads off the next inning. We have 3 guys holding this team down pretty bad right now....thats 33% of the lineup sucking ass. If those guys get on base at some point I expect Manny and David to return to the norm.
