  1. I would love to see that scenario......but there are a few problems: Lugo is a hog, even if the Sox eat half of the money, how many teams want to pay that much for a below average SS, who should not be an everyday player. Crisp almost falls in to the same category. He is making good money for what he actually produces offensively. Carter is an unknown, an aging unknown at that. At 25 years old, without a defensive position, I would think that limits them to AL teams only, and it is too early to tell who is in it, or out of it....plus, a smaller market team may be interested in Carter, but not paying the salaries of Lugo and Crisp, so I think that type of package hurts them. Add in the fact that the Sox need BP help, as just about every team does......and those teams competing for the playoffs will not deal BP pitchers, and small market teams wont pay those salaries........all this adds up to one big mess.
  2. I agree with most of this, except MDC. MDC may be in a make or break year in terms of becoming a setup man on a championship caliber team, but he has already proven his value in terms of a good relief pitcher, its just whether or not he can be trusted when the game is on line like Oki is.
  3. I understand its a small sample size, but it is a legetimate concern. I think Ortiz will be fine, as others do....but the fact is, Mike Timlin is now what 42?, Tavarez is also getting older and all the innings and appearances and roles hes had in his career may be catching up to him......Lopez, no more needs to be said about him bc hes always sucked. Those are 3 spots in a pitching staff 25-30% of the staff depending on how many you base it on.......and 50-60% of the bullpen depending on how many they are carrying at any time.
  4. Its a double edged sword....if he plays well, he takes AB's away from Ellsbury, and if he doesnt......well we have a pain in the ass. BTW....he is not showcasing, people already know what he can do.......all he can do is play himself into a spot with another team, not out of one, since nobody wanted the guy anyway.
  5. Carter (25 years old now) will be one of those great all time slugging minor leaguers. Why would the Sox bring him up? He isnt a 1B (hasnt played a game there yet this year, and he was on pace to make about as many errors as Dr. Strangeglove last year. Our OF is already jam packed, so there really is no point. Plus, if the Sox thought so highly of him, they would have found a spot for him (just like they did with Pedroia at 24 years old, and just like they are going to do wit Ellsbury at 24 years old, like they most likely will do with Lowrie at 24 years old).
  6. His numbers anywhere but Boston really mean nothing to me, because if he comes up again, and falls on his face again.....it very well may be the last we see him........and I still dont think hes earned another chance yet....regardless of how bad our BP is right now. I think Kolb gets a look before him, and Edgar Martinez may get a look (to determine if he is ever really going to show anything). Then they will try to bring in an arm from the outside......all before Hansen gets a look.
  7. Timlin and Tavarez were horrendous last night. Tavarez has walked 5 in 7 IP and has a WHIP of 1.96.....horrendous for a relief pitcher. Hes already been in 5 games, or 1/7th of his appearances last season. I think there is some serious concern here. Timlins been in 4 games and cant get anyone out. Hes given up 8 hits in 2 innings. Incredible. He has a WHIP of 4.29, stupendous. People argue that hes been up at down.....but he really hasnt, hes been awful: http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?c_id=mlb&playerID=123348&statType=2 Aardsma had been very good on the other hand, maybe a surprise to some of us, I really pulled for him in spring training, as he had a good spring and obviously deserved a spot on the roster ahead of Snyder. Throw Javier (I cant believe someone is paying me to look like a specialist) Lopez in to this mix and his cool 1.93 Whip (ya, so much for specialist) and they have really been terrible. DelCarmen is still a headache, and as painful as he is sometimes, he still puts up the numbers. Paps and Oki.....smooth sailing. I think Crisp moves sooner than later, for an arm.
  8. Snyder is a very poor mans Arroyo. Hell Arroyo today is a poor mans version of Arroyo 2-3 years ago.
  9. Jayhawk....just block him, I did. Once I blocked him the overall intelligence of the board skyrocketed.
  10. steven tyler looks like a girl

  12. Lets wait for that judgemment, I know lowell is struggling a lil bit right now, but he was arguaby the most productive hitter last year, including hitting cleanup multiple times.
