Listen, lets not even go down that road, because then it will only turn into the argument about who really put those teams together. Duquette, Theo.....or the guys who pulled off the trade for Lowell and Beckett. Lets not go down that road. They WILL NOT get AGON if they dont pay him and give him 8 years. Simple as that. With little remaining of real worth on the market, they are screwed if they dont complete this trade.

If this is how the FO looks at this deal........then forget about AGON coming to Boston. Some other team will offer him a better, longer deal. For that matter, forget about just about any premier free agent coming to Boston. Boston has limits.....other teams dont. Instead of premier free agents we get JD Drew and John Lackey.

Maybe AGON's agent got word of the Werth deal at the last minute and they are trying to get a better offer??????

If you take a look at a deal that I would approve of: Then you will see that.......... I want Lowrie as part of the current club. I know it wont happen, but trading Kalish, Lars Anderson and Felix Doubrount along with DiceK and Scutaro is appealing for both clubs. SD gets an OF who is highly touted. A prospect first baseman who serves zero purpose here with Youk and the possibility of AGON coming here and Doubrount, another quality prospect who might do well in the NL west. Throw in a starting SS and a pitcher who would project to do well in their ballpark and in their league and we may have something. The sox go out and sign Werth and with the opening in the starting rotation...they should at LEAST kick the tires on Cliff Lee. The team would be completed. No other moves necessary. Agon, Werth, Lee, Bell and a bullpen arm (in the deal with SD) bascially solidify the entire teams needs. Its a lot to ask, but the Sox need to start getting things moving here.

What would you rather have? Roster fillers or one of the best middle of the lineup hitters in all of baseball? Dont scare me. I am assuming more than just AGON is coming back. As long as they sign AGON right away to an extension...I really dont care what they give up. You are not going to get a player of his caliber without giving up a significant package. They arent getting him for nothing, especially since Hoyer knows the system here inside and out. This will be worth it. He will be in the middle of our lineup for the years to come. Those prospects will most likely never amount to the worth of Gonzalez.
