  1. The IF is definitely tarped, but the mega-tarp covers the rest. I'd bet money they have one, so if the rains clears out by 7:00 or so, then I think they'll get the game in. Time to check the radar...... EDIT: Nevermind, the image I posted updates itself. Nifty. It looks like the front has moved a bit. Keep on truckin' rain.
  2. I don't know if Baltimore has a mega-tarp, but if they don't, the field will be in pretty s***** shape after 20+ straight hours of rain (it hasn't stopped since it started late in the game last night). That is why they may not get this one in. The Sox return to CY for a series in May (15-17). Both teams have the 18th off and begin interleague play close by on the 19th. The Sox travel to Philly. The O's are in D.C. I would imagine they'll make it up then instead of a DH on Sunday.
  3. That's fine, neither to do I. But I think it's fun to let streaks run their course, and I just don't understand your insatiable desire to create the game thread. And don't act like that desire doesn't exist. You routinely make the following statement when you create one early, "I'm busy tomorrow, so I had to make it tonight." That is wrong; you never have to make it. You just want to so bad that you can't wait.
  4. Yikes! http://images.ibsys.com/bal/images/weather/auto/radar_640x480.jpg EDIT: This thing updates itself, cool. It appears to have moved a bit, so I'm feeling more optimistic about this game getting played.
  5. Not that I really believe in this stuff, but why mess with SOTKs mojo? It's not like the Sox were stellar in your last game thread. Don't tempt fate.
  6. Chen's a soft-tossing lefty that nibbles and uses lots of offspeed stuff, so I really don't know what to expect. Slick Wily tends to get fooled by breaking balls, but that is usually on sliders from RHP that break down and away from him. It will be interesting to say the least.
  7. And there are plenty of LHP in this division. TB - 3 - Kazmir, Hendrickson, Fossum Tor - 2 - Chacin, Lilly Bal - 2 - Bedard, Chen NY - 1 - RJ That's 8/20 rotation spots in this division, and the Sox play those teams 18/19 times a year. That's good for 74 games, 40% of which is ~30 games for Wily, and that is just against the division foes.
  8. Curveballs are real. Rising FBs are not. What makes a moving object change it's trajectory as it spins through a fluid (air), is called the magnus force. It is dependent on velocity and angular frequency (rpm). They did a study where the measured the rpm of several fire balling young pitchers. The spin rates produced would require a velocity in excess of 200 mph to produce a magnus force large enough to overcome the force of gravity. The reason it appears to rise is because it just falls less. A typical 90 mph FB takes enough time to reach home that the acceleration of gravity would make it fall ~3 ft. With the magnus force, the typical FB only falls ~1.25 ft, but those thrown harder with more spin fall less, thus creating the illusion of rise.
  9. Trust me, it is a physical impossibility.
  10. The rising FB is a myth.
  11. I think the current plan is something along those lines.
  12. OC!!! Love it.
  13. They play 13 straight days from April 11-23. Boomer is scheduled to start on the 12th, so they either go with him, or give it to DiNardo against the Jays. I don't think using Papelbon as the spot starter is a good idea until Foulke and Co. (Riske, Seanez, Tavarez) show they don't need a 25 y/o to carry them.
  14. Would the schedule allow a 4-man rotation while he makes one more rehab start?
  15. It's an official game. You can stop dancing Riv, that is, unless you want to keep the mojo going our way and dance for a Yankee victory.
  16. Matty is dealing tonight. One more inning and she's in the books.
  17. Trot can't hit lefties.
  18. Come on man, you were a ball player, have some respect for the game.
  19. Yeah, he's looked more like his timing was off to me. Yanking FBs foul down the 3B line and totally out in front of offspeed stuff. He stayed back nicely on that one though.
  20. Bringing a lefty in against 'Tek? That's questionable.
  21. The AL to NL (or vice versa, I know where the players switched from) was in reference to what I quoted, the comment about Clement's K rate.
  22. AL to NL. Loretta is going to have a good year.
