  1. But that's not what you said in that thread. The idea of a Smoltz trade was being discussed with Hansen as the centerpiece and you said it wasn't worth giving up Hansen to get Smoltz. I don't feel like digging through the threads, but I can if you want.
  2. Just cause you say it won't make it so. Until you recant your belief that Hansen is more valuable to this year's team than Smoltz would be, I'll continue to believe you have a preference for prospective talent over current players.
  3. I think we have an interesting dichotomy working here. 700 (aka Duke Jr) has little faith in prospects and thinks the best way to fill out a lineup is with proven veterans at every position, while jsinger (aka 'Spect-Luva) rarely praises any player older than 27 1/2 years old. Personally, I think the most effective, efficient, and successful way to fill out a roster is a mix of these two philosophies, but it's fun to watch the back an forth.
  4. Epic AB here for Gonzo the Great.
  5. As a fan of making a move for Smoltz when it looked like he was available, yeah. That's two of our better BP arms, our best position prospect, and a resurgent prospect raking at the highest MiLB level. That's just too much for a half year rental. Make it one of the relievers, and one of the position prospects, and I'm right on with it.
  6. This is a really good point. Lowell, Loretta, Schilling, Nixon's health, Wells' knee, and a few other things were all question marks going into the season. Luckily, most of them have come up spades, and it was looking like moving some pieces to round out the roster would be a good idea to make a strong run at another title. However, the Braves' resurgence has taken Smoltz off the market, IMO, and he was the only real difference maker that might have been available.
  7. It would be nice if Juan Rivera would remember that he's really not that good.
  8. Anyone else beginning to think Coco has been missing a lot of cutoff men lately. Sunday comes to mind -- and that was the last game I watched due to work -- and now he just missed two on consecutive plays. That's troublesome.
  9. Damn, I've got an extra ticket that Rick gave me for the birth of my daughter. I was going to take my brother, but he's got a tournament that weekend. Oh well.
  10. Damn, sucks to give up a double to a guy that looks like he just dropped the crack pipe.
  11. Crespo, you busy next Sunday? (Aug 6, I believe)
  12. I hate the "what if the kid can't handle it attitude", and this fanbase seems to have more of it than any other. I'm watching teams all over baseball bring their studs up and let them play, while half our fanbase is a bunch of nervious Nellie's wanting to keep around a guy with little range, IsoD, or IsoP --- all while our best position prospect is raking in AAA. Grow a set and hop on the bandwagon.
  13. Your money argument makes no sense. This team has money to burn, so it isn't about wasted money, especially not at that salary level. It's about Pedroia being ready. Papi has wheels.
  14. Because Pedroia is ready for the next level. The longer he caddy's, the longer it takes him to get to full potential at this level. I've never been a fan of having a blue-chip prospect rookie ride the pines for the big club because that just slows down the learning curve. Everyone needs to take their lumps, some more than others, so just get them out of the way with consistent playing time.
  15. There you go, siddown chucker!
  16. Tough call there, could have gone either way. Send this chucker back to the dugout and give the bats a chance to get you the lead, Jon.
  17. Nope. It's Peddy's time to shine.
  18. That's what I mean. He's not the best offensive SS around, but he doesn't seem to let the situation get the better of him, ever. Gamer.
  19. Good call DeMarlo, don't test that arm.
  20. I'll be pissed if Gonzo isn't around next year. This guy's a f***ing gamer.
  21. It shouldn't happen this inning, but 'Tek should tell Lester to throw at someone's ear. That's a couple of times hitters have called a late timeout. Petey would have had someone eating dirt already.
  22. Sit, you bat waggling bitch.
  23. G.A. completely got nubbed off the end of the bat there, he should play the lotto if he's got that kind of fortune tonight.
