    They don't win it last year with Pedro and Lowe. Pedro didn't even pitch after the first week of September, and there's no Wells or Clement if they were kept. Derek wouldn't have made the difference in the White Sox series. Even with Damon, everyone not named Manny or Ortiz struggled mightily in the second half. Oh, and they still didn't have shut-down closer.

    I'm getting Fox'd for this game. The local affiliate is showing the epic pitching match-up El Duque vs. Tim Hudson (Mets/Braves). It would be nice if they didn't play day games on Saturday so often. I don't get to watch most of the games during the week because I need to get up so early, so losing 1 of the 3 I can watch on the weekend sucks (2 this weekend because of Sunday night).

    That's just it, you assume everything said about the Yankees is an insult. In this thread, 700 opens a discussion about how he thinks Torre's "calming" influence on the players is a bit overrated. Yeah, he insulted Ponson in the process, but that's not what got you upset. You got upset because he challenged a perceived notion about a Yankee icon. But, he wasn't insulting Torre. He merely gave an opinion. You are the one that turned it personal by attacking him. And, you don't act like someone who expects and accepts what gets said here in the name of the rivalry. You don't act like this at all because you bitch about how the Yankees are perceived/treated here. If you expected it, you would address what was said and not whine about the fact that it was said. There's a difference.

    The only way 250# belongs in the same sentence as Sidney Ponson is if you are talking about weekly consumption of pork rinds. He weighs 250# just like Farrakhan is going on kibbutz this year.

    Do you doubt that the Pot-Bellied Wonder and Mr. Balky-Rib can do better than Schnide-Dog/DiNoNo/JJ the Run Train/Kason Gabbard/David Pauley? Because, despite the performance out of the back end, they are still in first. It's reasonable to think that the upgrade from what we've seen will be enough to not give up prospects. I don't know if they are right or wrong, and nobody ever will, but I can see the thought process.

    Sorry, but this makes no sense. Players with salaries like Lowell's, coming of year's like he had in '05, only get traded as baggage to deep pocket teams. Would any team have taken Foulke off our hands for prospects last offseason? Nope. EDIT: Whoops, I thought you meant trade him in the offseason after the Beckett trade. Of course, the idea of this being a retooling year might have been altered a bit when it turned out everyone had bounced back to form. They do have a shot, but I'm sure they aren't selling the future to plug a hole. Hey, in the race, with potential impact players making combacks? Why not stand pat and hope to strike gold -- ie get hot at the right time -- without mortaging the farm to get the missing piece.

    Really. WMP not playing at all lately makes me suspect the multi-team deal is true and it includes him.
