Try looking at 2.50's predictions about Dellin Betances from the PECOTA thread in the Stats Forum. Apparently, based off 23.1 rookie league innings and some glowing scouting reports, he has "calculated" that there's a 50/50 chance his career ERA+ is north of 150, which would make him 2nd on the all-time list between Pedro (160) and Lefty Grove (148). WE'RE DOOOMED!! That guy has become a punchline on baseball boards across the country.

I love how pitchers have learned that Cano approaches hitting with the same level of patience as Sally Struthers in a room full of pizzas. Hollywood is too "good" to lay off, so I expect his troubles to continue.

No, he can't roll that DP any time he needs it. He can, however, throw sinker after sinker trying to get the ground ball, which he does about 60% of the time. Where it goes after hitting the bat is decided by fortune.

Brilliant analysis, Jacko. Honestly, I only see one hole on that team, and it's inexperience. At some point, that ceases to matter. They can rake, they can pitch, and they have a solid BP. The Cubs have started to play well, and I suspect those two will fight it out until the end. The rest of that division is very flawed.

Of course, a grandfather clause until everyone was within the cap would be necessary. And, I agree, that discrepancy would be a little larger than I'd like. Maybe something like the mean + or - 25%?

Per USAToday salary database figures, the league average is $82M, with a standard deviation of $33M. Making the cap/floor within one standard deviation would set the range at $49M - $115M. That would bring the two big spenders down, and make the DRays, Marlins, Nats, and Pirates spend a little coin. I can live with that.

How do you figure Nixon has outperformed Drew his whole career? Throw away Trot's cup o' coffee in '96 and their starts are similar with September call-ups in '98, then full-time from '99 on. If I recall correctly Nixon started off '06 pretty hot too, but wore down quickly. And, Drew is in the middle of pretty bad slump. If it holds up for another month, I'll get concerned, but I'm not of the opinion it will. A couple of weeks of the ST and early season Drew will rebound those numbers quickly.
