  1. Id much rather have a platoon of Bard/Kottaras plus the 2 draft picks
  2. This now gives the Red Sox 6 free agents after the 09 season- Jason Bay, Mark Kotsay, Rocco Baldelli, Brad Penny, John Smoltz, Hideki Okajima Wakefield and Bard have option years for '10
  3. And unlike his days in Florida & Toronto, he cant hide from the media now when the injury woes pop up again
  4. I was hoping for Jeff Bailey to get a shot, oh well. Kotsay has some pop and displayed a good glove playing at 1st base. This offseason the Sox have upgraded (and then some) their bench 2008 opening day (combined 9 HRs, with Casey and Cora going 0 for) Catcher- Kevin Cash 1st Base- Sean Casey Infield- Alex Cora Outfield- Coco Crisp 2009 opening day Catcher- Josh Bard/George Kottaras 1st Base- Mark Kotsay Infield- Julio Lugo/Jed Lowrie Outfield- Rocco Baldelli
  5. lol
  6. He will open the season in Triple A Patwucket, look for a mid to late season callup
  7. Considering the Sox got by through most of the 07 season with Julian Tavarez as their 5th starter... Im not one to fret This is really being blown out of proportion by Jacko and A700. Name how many teams have all star 4th/5th type starters
  8. Baldelli will be the backup outfielder, and its a 1 year deal for less than $1 million. God yes the red sox are giving up so much here Penny and Smoltz are one year deals, and they are expected at most to be the 4th/5th starters. The Sox already do have one of the best 1-3's of Beckett, Lester, Dice-K
  9. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/37268769.html The Brewers got Trevor Hoffman, 1 year $6 million with an option year
  10. def best case scenario
  11. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/01/lowe_to_meet_wi.html Lowe is meeting with the Braves
  12. Could Wake be doing some bullpen work this season?
  13. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spyanks08jan08,0,900649.story?track=rss Andy is very upset with the Yankees. The Astros seem to be the top choice now
  14. Smoltz a Red Sox huh? Ill take it
  15. Sweet deal! EDIT: The deal is for one year and one year only. The guaranteed salary could be under $1 million
  16. Id say he goes back to the Astros, or joins Torre with the Dodgers
  17. Def was one of the easiest signings to predict this offseason. Giambi will be the DH, Barton at 1b, Cust in the outfield. Barton's up and down year might have the A's FO thinking he'll be down in Triple A Burrell to the Rays, Giambi to the A's. Both moves are solid (plus cheap) additions that are both capable of 30/100. Bradley for 3 years $30 million is expensive for the DL guy who can be a mental case I see Griffey to the Mariners, Abreu to the Mets, and Manny back with the Dodgers. Also think the Nats will pull out their checkbook and get a package deal of Orlando Hudson/Adam Dunn EDIT: Buster Olney is reporting that the 1 year deal is $5.25 million with the option year being worth $4 million. Aside from Boras' clients, its a buyers market right now
  18. Yea I think its just a random ranking by Heyman, he's better than to make an actual ranking like this
  19. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/jon_heyman/01/02/scoop.freeagents/index.html?eref=writers Jon Heyman picks his top 20 free agents still available... with 6 weeks until pitchers & catchers report. Where do you think theyll end up? 1. Bobby Abreu 2. Milton Bradley 3. Pat Burrell 4. Orlando Cabrera 5. Joe Crede 6. Adam Dunn 7. Jon Garland 8. Jason Giambi 9. Orlando Hudson 10. Derek Lowe 11. Oliver Perez 12. Andy Pettitte 13. Manny Ramirez 14. Ben Sheets 15. Jason Varitek 16. Randy Wolf 17. Garret Anderson 18. Freddy Garcia 19. Cliff Floyd 20. Tim Redding
  20. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-pitchersmarket010209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Byrd is thinking about being a mid season acquisition or retirement
  21. Cassel didnt choke in late drives to tie or put them ahead, looking cool and confident This hack against him because he didnt win against good teams... If Moss didnt have those big multiple dropped passes against the Steelers, it wouldve been totally different outcome. That 3rd & 15 against the Jets in overtime was the killer. Belichick had his worst coaching game when they were playing Indy
  22. Damn imagine that FA group of starting pitchers in 2010 Josh Beckett Roy Halladay Dan Haren Scott Kazmir Cliff Lee Brandon Webb
  23. Playing fantasy football I know, about the notion of CJ coming to the Pats. For him to finish with 1381 yards, regardless the fact that the leading passer was Dan Orlovsky with 1600 yards... is nothing short of amazing. I do agree that Tampa Bay would be a good fit for Cassel
