  1. he has played center field, but then switched over to shortstop
  2. its really not just dale svelum, like how many times did sox get two men on, even a man on third with no outs and just strand them? ? sox left 35 men on base in the Chicago series, whil white sox left just 21. Its an issue they definitely need to address along with Olerud's slump making me feel Id rather have Millar in there for the offense. In Olerud's last 31 at bats, he has had just 3 hits
  3. i doubt Hanley will be the 3rd baseman, its just to get him to be a player capable of all positions like Tony G is. Kevin Youkilis will get the starting nod next season since Bill Mueller is more likely to leave during the trade deadline or after this season. I could see if Damon does leave, they might give Hanly a shot during spring training to battle for the starting center fielder
  4. on WEEI, it was reported that Theo is starting to play hardball after Bronson's performance, using that breaking ball in abundance which a number of times he hung it up there for guys to hit. It could be a deal now of Bronson, Sanchez, and Brandon Moss to counter with the prospect White Sox are offering.
  5. i was sure with the orioles' ace erik bedard up on the mound with his "roger clemens" ERA of 1.89 that baltimore wouldve avoided a sweep
  6. what a surprising ending to last night's late inning game, it had gone into the 10th inning with two out and neifi perez up to the bases loaded and he had hit a walkoff grand slam, I wasnt expecting that from him. but still happy because thats my favorite team of the NL along with the Astros to make it to the World Series
  7. too bad tek was just a solo shot, couldve been two if not for millar trying to stretch it out, but hey the sox get to follow a split with the best team in baseball by going against the lowly d-rays. Though the D-Rays have been tearing it up, actually winning 7 out of their last 10 games. David Wells will be starting his second consecutive game against them with a niice 10-1 career record
  8. AJ Burnett proved even more why hes the hottest trade commodity in the maket, and more reason for sox to pull forwrad for this. Bronson in his first several innings still had the control issues and using in abundance his breaking ball. Bronson Arroyo (Loss) 6 2/3 innings pitched, 8 Hits, 6 ER, 3 Walks, 2 Ks--ERA 4.26 AJ Burnett (Win) Belted a Solo Shot into left field, 7 1/3 innings pitched, 6 Hits, 1 Run (not earned), 1 Walk, 4 Ks--ERA 3.38
  9. damn damon flies out, 2 men left, now total 7 men left on base in 6 innings, Chicago has left just 2
  10. ah man if not for millar out at second, wouldve been 2-run shot with one out
  11. it still helps drive the force behind the bat, besides that anybody who uses steroids i have no respect for
  12. wow dude lmao, flaherty has better clutch hits than jorge ?? haha, jorge is right now batting .257 with 13 Homeruns and 45 RBIs. Lets see and John Flaherty this season would be at a .162 average and 5 RBIs, damn yea Flaherty is Mr. Clutch this year
  13. well true but he all of sudden lighted it beginning of July, just days after the Yankees were considering sending him back to the minors. Entering July with a .253 avg, and the month isnt even over with his average now up to .287. He entered July with just 5 homeruns, and has slugged 11 for the month thus far. cmon i think he started to get the shakes, and needed a fix to stay in the game
  14. awesome craig has been signed to a 4 year $4 million contract, theo said odds are he could be with the red sox by next april
  15. ok very good bill mueller is still in for today and will be batting 2nd instead today. alex cora taking over for edgar renterria at shortstop, and tony G is back at second base
  16. really, they are all AL hitters??! I had no idea haha, really anyway, who knows AJ would end up owning the yankees, doing so/so, or outright bad--lets just see first who gets him if he is dealt during the trade deadline
  17. very true, ive only seen recently jeterwifey and 26 to 6 several times. YANKEESRULE and Yanks2010 have vanished since the yanks lost the 1/2 game lead they had over the sox in just 24 hours
  18. yea dude, contreras is owned by the red sox yea sure thing you guys will love this matchup as more or less the Red Sox should have in the clubhouse, a certificate of ownership of Jose Conteras. Lifetime in just six games he has a 1-4 record, with really jaw-dropping ERA of 13.50, in the span of just total 21 innings pitched giving up 7 Homeruns! Side note is yesterday's nesn pre-game report that it could be today again with alex cora taking 2nd base, while having Tony G give Bill Mueller the day off at 3rd base, though Bill does have great numbers against Conteras. Jose Contreras vs: Alex Cora, 1 for 5 (.200 avg) Johnny Damon, 4 for 11 (.364 avg) HR, 3 RBIs, 4 Walks, 6 Ks, SB Tony G, 1 for 4 (.250 avg) HR, RBI, K Kevin Millar, 4 for 8 (.500 avg) Double, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs, 3 Walks, 3 Ks Doug Mirabelli, 1 for 5 (.200 avg) RBI, 3 Ks (will serve on the bench today) Bill Mueller, 5 for 11 (.455 avg) Double, HR, 5 RBIs, 2 Walks, K Trot Nixon, 1 for 1 (1.000 avg) RBI, Walk David Ortiz, 2 for 11 (.182 avg) Double, 3 RBIs, 2 Walks, 2 Ks Manny Ramirez, 3 for 10 (.300 avg) Double, HR, 3 RBIs, Walk, 3 Ks Jason Varitek, 1 for 5 (.200 avg) Walk, 2 Ks, 0 for 1 SBs and in what could be Bronson's last start as a Red Sox pitcher, his stats in 3 games opposing the white sox is a 1-1 record with a 5.74 ERA. As it was last night, today wont be any different as Bronson is lethal against baserunners. And only one has tried to steal against him all season, that one being picked off. His stats against white sox is more dominating than contreras is by far with only one batter hitting above .300 against bronson, but ya know ozzie will try to throw some hit and runs, squeez plays, etc. Bronson Arroyo vs: Joe Crede, 0 for 3, Walk, K Jermaine Dye, 0 for 1, Walk, K Carl Everett, 1 for 7 (.143 avg) Willie Harris, 2 for 7 (.286 avg) 2 Ks Paul Konerko, 1 for 5 (.200 avg) HR, 3 RBIs, Walk Timo Perez, 3 for 7 (.429 avg) Double AJ Pierzynski, 0 for 3 Aaron Rowand, 1 for 5 (.200 avg) K Juan Uribe, 1 for 4 (.250 avg) Double, RBI, K
  19. wow i was right on that one, in 17 games he has pitched this season, cleveland offense behind him is sloppy just averaging 2.5 runs support a game
  20. yes milwood is 3-9, but that ERA indicates he should have a good record and run support
  21. well really win/loss record is out the window since Arroyo's career ERA Record is at 4.49, with AJ's at 3.80, and Elias Sports Bureu indicated Florida Marlins give him on average 5 runs of support or less dating back to 1998. I like Arroyo a lot but tek is right that arroyo's control is not always on the mark, and doesnt do that well at home compared to on the road. And this is what baseball is and what will always be like in the business and stats sense. Maybe with the Florida Marlins having a pitcher's ballpark, that could certainly turn things around for Arroyo. and AJ will have a team that has slugging power while he goes and sits on the bench.
  22. ahem, good stuff right here, updated hot headline on the miami herlad.com Burnett trade to O's is dead It was back to the drawing board for the Marlins, whose proposed trade with the Baltimore Orioles is all but dead. For that matter, it's no longer certain they'll try to deal A.J. Burnett and Mike Lowell before the July 31 trade deadline, not with mounting questions surrounding the pitching staff. Dontrelle Willis' fortunes have taken a sudden nosedive, Josh Beckett's history with injuries leaves him suspect to make it through to the end of the season, and Ismael Valdez is joining the rotation after missing the entire season. Do the Marlins dare trade Burnett, one of their frontline starters, with those questions hanging over them? They are a team that has underperformed but was only 5 ? games back going into Saturday and clinging to postseason hope. Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest wasn't saying Saturday after the Orioles worked out a trade with the Padres, sending pitcher Sidney Ponson to San Diego for first baseman Phil Nevin. That deal, which requires Nevin to waive his no-trade clause, effectively would end all possibility of Lowell being packaged in a trade to Baltimore with Burnett. The Orioles would have no place to play Lowell and, according to reports out of Baltimore, they also have lost their enthusiasm for Burnett. The Marlins still could work out a trade involving Burnett, with the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays looming as the most likely destinations for the right-hander. But there's a chance the Marlins could scrap everything, hang on to Burnett for a possible stretch run and receive nothing more than draft picks for him when he becomes a free agent after the season. One way or the other, Burnett, who is scheduled to start this afternoon against the Giants, is looking forward to the day he won't be hounded by the daily ''circus act'' of trade rumblings. And he said he wouldn't mind at all finishing out the season with the Marlins. ''This team could win it just as easily as any other team,'' Burnett said. The Marlins are going to need Willis to find a way out of his recent tailspin. Willis, who started out 12-3, has dropped his past three decisions, giving up almost as many runs (23) in those three outings as he had in his first 17 (26). Willis said Saturday his arm feels fine, and he doesn't feel fatigued. ''I'm feeling good,'' Willis said. ``I'm just playing bad baseball.'' Manager Jack McKeon said he spoke with Willis on Saturday and was told the same thing. But Willis has a history of going into second-half swoons. ''The last two years, he's basically done the same thing for a short period of time,'' McKeon said. ``He gets out of whack.'' Beinfest said the organization isn't worried. ''We're not concerned with Dontrelle,'' Beinfest said. ``He's fine.'' The need for a veteran reliever might not be so great, either, when right-hander Antonio Alfonseca returns from the disabled list. That is more than likely to happen Tuesday, when the Marlins open a homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates. ''That's a big addition for us,'' Beinfest said. As for Lowell, other teams have expressed little to no interest in the third baseman because of his large contract and poor offensive numbers this season. Lowell said he can understand the Marlins' desire to trade him. He is hitting .230 with five home runs but has started to show signs of breaking out. He was robbed of two base hits Friday on outstanding defensive plays and hit his first home run this season on the road. ''They're scared I'm going to hit .230 for the next two years, and I'm a financial liability,'' Lowell said. ``I think when you deal with a team in our market, that type of money will be a major hindrance to doing a lot of things.'' The Marlins reportedly had worked out a three-way trade with the Orioles and Texas Rangers, but it died when Baltimore agreed to a trade with San Diego after deciding it didn't want Lowell and wasn't certain it could sign Burnett to an extension. Florida would have sent Lowell and Burnett to Baltimore, which would have moved Ponson to the Rangers. Texas would have sent outfielder Richard Hidalgo to the Marlins. Deals that possibly could still be worked out for Burnett include the White Sox offering pitching prospect Brandon McCarthy and right-handed starter Jose Contreras, and Boston likely would give up right-handed starter Bronson Arroyo and minor-league pitcher Anibel Sanchez.
  23. Padres trade minor-leaguers for Randa The slumping NL West-leading San Diego Padres went about strengthening their standing Saturday with one official trade and another they hope gets Phil Nevin's seal of approval. San Diego agreed to send first baseman Nevin to Baltimore for pitcher Sidney Ponson, but Padres general manager Kevin Towers said the club had yet to ask Nevin to waive his limited no-trade clause; Baltimore is one of eight teams Nevin can block a trade to. Soon after, the Padres acquired third baseman Joe Randa from the Cincinnati Reds and demoted struggling Sean Burroughs to Triple-A Portland. "The Padres have not even asked our approval yet," agent Barry Axelrod told The Associated Press. "If they were to ask for our approval, for Phil to even consider it, I'm sure there would have to be some discussion. He and or I would want to talk with the Orioles and find out what his role would be there."With Ponson acquired by the Padres, the Orioles' deal to acquire Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett has been shelved. A three-way deal with the Orioles and Texas Rangers, which would have sent Burnett to Baltimore, was "killed" by the Orioles this weekend, a baseball man familiar with the deal told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. So the Marlins are believed to have broken off talks with Baltimore, at least for now, and are back to focusing on offers from the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox. Florida, Baltimore and Texas had structured a complicated three-way trade that, theoretically, would have allowed the Orioles to assume most of the $21 million left on Marlins third baseman Mike Lowell's contract by jettisoning Ponson. Ponson has about $13 million remaining on his contract, which runs through 2006. But Baltimore and Florida would have assumed a large chunk of that and then traded Ponson to the Rangers, who would have picked up the rest. Texas also would have saved another $2 million by dealing outfielder Richard Hidalgo to Florida -- meaning the Rangers would have been getting Ponson for only about $3 million. But that whole scenario became moot when Baltimore apparently decided it didn't want Lowell, it couldn't be sure of signing Burnett and it had a chance to trade Ponson to San Diego for Nevin in a joint salary dump. The Ponson deal was agreed upon once he refused a trade to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for left-handed reliever Trever Miller. The Padres have a need for a starter. Adam Eaton (9-2 in 14 starts, 3.42 ERA) has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 23 because of a strained tendon in his middle finger. The Padres said Saturday they have no plans to send Eaton to the bullpen once he comes off the DL. Now the Marlins have to try to find a taker for Lowell and Burnett or return to the possibilities with the White Sox and Red Sox. The White Sox figure to head the list of other deals, with prospect Brandon McCarthy the main part of the package along with starter Jose Contreras. The Red Sox's offer would include Double-A pitching prospect Anibel Sanchez and right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo.
  24. yahoo sports mlb, it has stats on every single active player in the MLB. just go to the pitcher's profiles and click on batter vs. pitcher link, then it will show 2005 season stats with link above that says since 1987. I check like that each game, its very knowledgable. Even with situational stats of batters of how they do with whatever strike/ball count they are on, risp, etc
