  1. today's stats of the Sox's 3-2 win over Pittsburgh Schilling was more or less solid in his final spring training outing before his first start, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings of work. Foulke followed that up with another clean outing allowing just 1 hit. Rudy Seanez under the radar has now throwing his 4th straight scoreless inning. Leading the offense was Trot Nixon who had gone 1 for 4, a 2 run single with the bases loaded in the 7th inning had given them the lead for good. Wily Mo Pena is alo not slowing down as he went 2 for 3. His big hit being an RBI double. Here's hoping he can continue this hitting & plate patience into the regular season
  2. Francona has announced his likely lineups Vs. RHPs CF Coco Crisp 2B Mark Loretta DH David Ortiz LF Manny Ramírez RF Trot Nixon C Jason Varitek 3B Mike Lowell 1B Kevin Youkilis/J.T. Snow SS Alex González. Vs. LHPs CF Coco Crisp 2B Mark Loretta DH David Ortiz LF Manny Ramírez C Jason Varitek 3B Mike Lowell RF Wily Mo Peña 1B Kevin Youkilis SS Alex González. Other things of interest: Jonathan Papelbon & Mike Timlin will be main relievers to set up fro Foulke, even when Tavarez is not suspended. Papelbon will step in to close if troubles arise. David Wells has agreed to start the season the DL, this opens an extra spot for a reliver who will be left handed long man Lenny DiNardo. Wells will take his spot back on April 12. April 20 (Stern's 17 days are up) the Sox seem set to call up outfielder/infielder speedy Willie Harris. http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=132676
  3. Loretta was injured last year due to a broken thumb. If thats what you are getting at, how healthy can he be with that. But yes, he is gelling well and i hope to see him continue with it in Fenway Park
  4. Manny DelCarmen came in to protect a 4-3 lead, he gave up 4 runs in 0.2 inning. 1 was just charged to Manny, the other 3 toward Clement
  5. His 1st start of the season is on April 12. That would put him at #4 in the rotation
  6. spring training update, tonight's matchup against the Reds. Through the 4th inning, the Sox lead 2-1, helped by solo HRs by Manny (3) and Cora (2). Clement is still going strong this spring. In 3 innings he has allowed 1 run on just 2 hits
  7. We still got Pedroia, if he can just stay healthy for us. A recent article in the Boston Herald had noted that Pedroia will be Pawtucket's opening day shortstop & for throughout the season. He could make his major league debut mid-season. Alejandro Machado will enter the season as Pawtucket's opening day 2nd baseman.
  8. The Royals are close to re-acquiring Tony Graffanino. No indication if it will be a trade or Kansas City might just wait for the Sox to cut him tomorrow, which is the deadline to do so. They would just use him as utility infielder to back up Mark Grudzielanek. http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/14201109.htm Im now all out to get KC tickets at Fenway Park, be one of 35000 to give Tony his deserving standing ovation.
  9. Spring training trade, the Cubs have traded relief pitcher Todd Wellemyer to the Marlins for a couple of minor league pitchers http://www.rotoworld.com/content/story.asp?sport=MLB&storyid=20645
  10. Ah everyone is ripping on poor Barry. Haha I love it, I woudl love to be at a National League game just to join the chorus of boos
  11. Schilling vs Texas (6 games) 2-0, 3.78 ERA Oddly enough, this will be Schilling's 1st start at Ameriquest Field
  12. 1. Coco Crisp 2. Mark Loretta 3. David Ortiz 4. Manny Ramirez 5. Trot Nixon (Wily Mo vs lefties) 6. Jason Varitek 7. Mike Lowell 8. Kevin Youkilis/J.T. Snow 9. Alex Gonzalez
  13. Edgar Renteria to Alex Gonzalez- How is this not an upgrade? Kevin Millar to Kevin Youkilis- offense and defensive upgrade by far of what Millar did in 2005 Bellhorn/Cora/Graff to Loretta- As much as Tony g is my boy, Loretta is going to fit just great in 2nd base. Equaling the offense those 3 together did in 1 season Bill Mueller to Mike Lowell- the defense is about equal, Lowell does have a shot of hitting for more power than Mueller would have. Just not as high of a batting avg Billy would net.
  14. oh well for offense, there is one player not worried about. I can bet any ammount of dollars that Loretta is going to take you by surprise. 2005 was an off year and now his right-handed pull swing is moving from PETCO to Fenway. Spring training performance is only getting me more pumped to see him in action as one of the best No. 2 hitters many scouts have been knon to call him. Loretta & Coco are also forming a great hit and run combo, I cant right now call him just average.
  15. are you talking about their defense? If so, get ready for the best defensive infield of at least the AL East 3rd base- 2005 gold glove winner Mike Lowell shortstop- much deserving gold glove winner Alex Gonzalez 2nd base- Mark Loretta, knowledgable defender utility 2b/ss- Alex Cora who turned in web gem plays as they came and will continue to do so 1st base- Kevin Youkilis, never known to be error happy and is said to be taking a quick comfort mode at 1st base J.T. Snow, enough said with his 6 gold gloves saving hits/runs in the late innings
  16. Trust me, all the better to type his name in the ignore list. He's just here to try & rile us up which has worked with his cocky "only my opinion matters" attitude
  17. And he's with us for 2 seasons, even an option for a 3rd year
  18. Lets just remember that this is nothing new from Tavarez, but I can understand his agression after being spiked in the leg. Its not something that I condone, but its what sometimes happens in baseball. Not just the Red Sox though it seems they like to make the headlines even now. Eh at least I know the Sox have more of an intimidating staff than last season haha
  19. final stats for today's walkoff crazy win against the D-Rays 11-12. The Sox won their 2nd straight game, making their record at 8-16-1 Wells was touched up to say the least, giving up 7 Runs in 4 innings. Fingers crossed for his first start of the season, against the Blue Jays. Best pitching went to Foulkie, 3 straight scoreless innings now. Keep it up Foulke. Tavarez was hampered by shoddy defensive plays and the fight with Joey Gathright. Papelbon, not fully warmed up, came aboard after the ejection of Tavarez. Papelbon gave up 5 hits in 1.1 inning. Offense (the expected opening day lineup): Coco continues to trump the naysayers "oh he cant hit leadoff, look at the stats!!" He went 1 for 2 with a walk & 7th stolen base of the spring. Mark Loretta followed suit going 3 for 4 with a walk, SB of his own (got on base first 4 ABs). Ortiz, Manny, Tek, & Nixon all chipped in for this slug fest. Hee-Seop Choi walked with the bases loaded in the 9th for the walkoff win.
  20. He will stay behind since his first start is coming on April 12. As for Papelbon, he didnt even get time in the bullpen to get ready. Tavarez was ejected, then Papelbon threw some practic pitches to Huckaby. Its nothing to get worried about. ------------------------ EDIT: Does this mean a spot is opened up for Hansen? Tavarez will most likely get a harsh penalty for his part in today's fight
  21. The Sox have a walkoff win Choi walked with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th
  22. Gathright must not know that Tavarez is not the pitcher you want to challenge to a fight, because he will bring it 10X. Of course this game isnt being televised or even on the radio
  23. Going into the bottom of the 8th inning, the D-Rays now lead 11-10 Julian Tavarez had gotten the first 2 outs couple with men on base from 2 Boston minor leaguer errors... The next stat shown was that Tavarez has been ejected. My friend is telling me that Tavarez was ejected for "beating the s*** out of Gathright". We of course know how he can get his temper falred up. Id say the Red Sox pitchers want to start the season, huh? The lead was given up by Papelbon. He gave up 3 consecutive singles until getting the 3rd out
