  1. He wants the best contract ever for a closer. Him being a free agent would entertain a bidding war over his services. Even if he was offered 4 years/$36 million, he would turn it down because he would look at 38 year old Mariano Rivera getting 3 years/$45 million, and lord knows he loves to compare himself to Mo. The average salary would have to start at $12 million with him
  2. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/baseball/story/1432626.html Marlins signed Uggla to $7.8 million in arbitration this year. But they will continue to shop him, only for the right price tho
  3. This year its a very good bet that they could end up being the worst team in baseball. The latest he will be a Padre, is the 2011 trade deadline IMO
  4. Brendan Donnelly signs with the Pirates Theyve also added Dotel and DJ Carrasco who had a respectable 3.76 ERA in 93 innings with the White Sox. Like what theyre doing for the bullpen, also the favorites to sign Rick Ankiel
  5. On Sports Tonight, they were talking about Dick Jauron being an option to handle the offense
  6. http://castrovince.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/01/tribe_signs_redmond_to_be_back.html Mike Redmond signed a 1 year $850K deal with the Guardians. He will be backup to Lou Marson.
  7. With pitchers and catchers reporting just a month away, thought about time to get a thread going. Today there were some minor league signings. These guys will be around ST but will be just depth players in Triple A
  8. Actually in 2009, he mightily improved on allowing inherited baserunners to score. 2008 he was putrid at that
  9. Didnt see this mentioned. Pirates are closing in on a deal with Octavio Dotel
  10. Yes I am too... Beltre in 2008 hit 25 HRs/77 RBIs 71 games at home (.240 avg) (.303 obp) (.400 slg) (.703 ops) 10 HRs, 23 RBIs, 31 Runs, 24 Walks, 48 Ks, 3 for 4 SBs 72 games on road (.292 avg) (.349 obp) (.512 slg) (.862 ops) 15 HRs, 54 RBIs, 43 Runs, 26 Walks, 42 Ks, 5 for 6 SBs Youre making it to seem like Beltre is going to put up the same 8 HRs/44RBI line he did this past season. I have no doubt he will hit up to 25 HRs and at least 75 RBIs
  11. What if its a torn acl or achilles injury??
  12. Plus when he came back... he had a busted nut
  13. Saying a dropoff from Bay to Ellsbury is just the same as Lowell to Beltre is plain asinine
  14. Not to mention... in November is when free agency and trades start happening. So would this delay any of that happening just so the World Series champions play the Japan Champions?? And could you imagine the outburst if a star player gets hurt during such a series? Im sorry, telling players to get ready to play "meaningful" baseball from March (WBC) to November is ridiculous
  15. resign Wilfork, shore up offensive line, wide receiver (Welker not good bet to return for start of season), Bill OBrien isnt working out so get a new O coordinator
  16. Having a full season of V-Mart (capable of 20 HRs, 100 RBIs) rather than Tek wouldnt help their offense be better then
  17. Wow never thought theyd be in the mix.
  18. http://trsullivan.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/01/rangers_sign_khalil_greene.html Rangers signed Khalil Greene to a 1 year $750K contract
  19. Maybe this wouldve worked this past season when Varitek was starting.. but its not really a burn with V-Mart behind the plate for the bulk of the season And as much as Tek's offense has declined, he will still be quite the upgrade over what Kottaras did for the Sox 43 games- 22 for 95 (.237 avg) 11 Doubles, 1 HR, 10 RBIs, 15 Runs, 11 Walks, 25 Ks
  20. Dice-K threw 160 innings in a full season because he was being stubborn, wanting to go his own way. He averaged like 5-6 innings a start because he was already at 100 pitches by then. After what happened in the WBC then him having to go through spring training all again, it showed to him that he is pitching in the MLB now... not on the other side of the planet Oh and also the Red Sox were ranked 28th of the 30 teams in defensive efficiency... Id be surprised if they dont have at least one gold glove award winner this year
  21. 2009 opening day rotation (with savior John Smoltz coming in June) Josh Beckett Jon Lester Daisuke Matsuzaka (tired arm from WBC) Brad Penny Tim Wakefield 2010 opening day rotation Jon Lester Josh Beckett John Lackey Clay Buchholz Daisuke Matsuzaka Wakefield as the long man out of the pen, spot start if need be
  22. Wang was the projected #2 starter ahead of Burnett and Pettitte???
