  1. No cause for concern? Yesterday Papelbon rolled over his ankle while covering first. It was reported that he would get at least an inng of relief in today's game to see how he pitches. Entering the 9th inning ahead 7-4 they gave the ball to Joel Pineiro to notch the save, not Papelbon
  2. Im not sure how to calculate batting average but JD Drew ends his hot ST with 16 hits in 45 ABs
  3. Well 700 lets just say Santana comes available if the Twins are nowhere in sight of contention by the All-Star Break. I must say I wouldnt mind if the Sox offered a package of Bucholz & Ellsbury for him
  4. oh my god Daisuke is going to suck, way to go Theo on this acquisition!!
  5. What a shoestring catch by Coco! Ease up guys: Im not starting to worry that he's gonna be a 75 walk pitcher. Japan's strike zone is bigger in the US and his fastball moves mostly up & in to hitters. Its all about transitioning, with his stuff it shouldnt be a long & tiring time for him to adjust
  6. Yeaa Pedroia, he's starting to settle himself in. After clubbing a solo HR last night, he has just hit a 2 run single to give him 3 RBIs in this 2 game series EDIT: That was weird they called for the hit & run with Pedroia on 1st base, Lugo gets a base hit with Pedroia able to ease on over to 3rd base
  7. Oh dear god how many times have the Phillies announcers said "gyroball" just in the 1st inning? EDIT: Daisuke gets himself out of trouble after walking the first 2 batters, he then retires the 3-4-5 of Utlley, Howard, Burrell.
  8. They are *******s, they say "what if everyone wants to do something like that?" Sox have been doing it for awhile Here's a cold quote from Grady #$^&*% Little --- Also, they leave the Sox with a disadvantage as matsuzaka's interpreter is not allowed to come to the mound
  9. The Sox bats woke up in this 6-5 win tonight, powered by the HRs of Manny, Drew, Youkilis, and Pedroia Tavarez facing a good Phillies lineup (and in hitter's park) went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, no walks and striking out 2
  10. Ok I looked over my lineup and I have no real 30 HR threat. Im offering the expected ace of the Oakland staff, Dan Haren, for a 30 HR+ stud & decent starting pitcher. Anyone intertested send me a proposal
  11. ksushi, where did you hear that? According tohttp://soxprospects.com/players/buchholz-clay.htm, he pitched for Single A Greenville and then was promoted to Single A Wilmington. Maybe he pitched in the Double A playoffs that youre thinking of
  12. For Bucholz's 1st "outing" vs a major league lineup (4.2 innings, 7 Hits, 2 Runs, 0 Walks, 3 Ks) was commendable for a guy who's never faced batters above Single A. The 2 runs came in the 5th after he went scoreless the first 4
  13. Another Yankee pitcher down, minor I know rotoworld
  14. The guys over at FSN New England are calling Schilling, Beckett & Daisuke-- The Big Three
  15. I think this move was done because outfielder Chris Durbin had retired rather than play a 3rd straight season with the Double A Sea Dogs. He'll fill that role.
  16. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/redSox/?p=964 Jon Lester will start the season on the DL. He will pitch once more in ST, and then he will begin pitching in Class A ball next month
  17. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox Here is the list of Bill James' projections for the Sox 1. Julio Lugo- .277 avg, 11 HRs, 55 RBIs, 85 Runs, 26 SBs With Ortiz, Manny, Drew hitting behind him Id say he has a good chance of topping 100 Runs 2. Kevin Youkilis- .283 avg, 14 HRs, 77 RBIs, 101 Runs, 103 Walks Sounds on course 3. David Ortiz- .285 avg, 47 HRs, 138 RBIs, 110 Runs, .983 OPS 4. Manny Ramirez- .305 avg, 37 HRs, 118 RBIs, 94 Runs, .414 OBP Considering Manny missed what, 6 weeks?.. but still managed 35 HRs, he could get to the benchmark of 40 HRs 5. J.D. Drew- .283 avg, 24 HRs, 82 RBIs, 92 Runs, 138 Games 6. Mike Lowell- .277 avg, 18 HRs, 77 RBIs, 66 Runs, .452 Slg 7. Jason Varitek- .259 avg, 17 HRs, 69 RBIs, 60 Runs, 118 Ks Whoa, 17 HRs? His max this season seems to be 13-15 8. Coco Crisp- .284 avg, 11 HRs, 54 RBIs, 74 Runs, 136 Games 9. Dustin Pedroia- .284 avg, 10 HRs, 72 RBIs, 79 Runs, 43 Ks ---- Alex Cora- .243 avg, 3 HRs, 26 RBIs, 32 Runs, 301 ABs Cora topping 300 ABs? Wily Mo Pena- .277 avg, 23 HRs, 68 RBIs, 57 Runs, 127 Ks Yes Please, but where does he get his ABs? Eric Hinske- .257 avg, 10 HRs, 38 RBIs, 43 Runs, 110 Games Doug Mirabelli- .213 avg, 5 HRs, 20 RBIs, 15 Runs, 49 Ks -------------- --------------- Sabermatricians (not Bill James) did the following for these Sox pitchers Curt Schilling- 12-8, 3.50 ERA, 177 Ks, 180 innings, 30 Walks Uptick in innings and wins Josh Beckett- 13-10, 3.68 ERA, 191 Ks, 208 innings, 24 HRs Uptick in wins Tim Wakefield- 8-8, 4.14 ERA, 108 Ks, 152 innings, 55 Walks Slight uptick in wins Boston.com has online poll of what people project for Daisuke & Julian Tavarez. Daisuke Matsuzaka- 17-10, 3.23 ERA Julian Tavarez- 9-11, 4.82 ERA
  18. rotoworld Good to know we have outfield depth in case someone goes down.
  19. Exactly, I was hoping Bryan Corey would fill in Timlin's spot for the first 2 series. But why lopez? The Sox already have a lefty specialist in JC Romero, and thats what Lopez is only good for. Although Lopez doesnt pound the strike zone with great control. Corey wouldve been a better asset in middle relief in my opninion. Honestly how much work will Lopez get?
  20. Im a Sox fan through & through, but I will admit that the Yankees pulling of a Hughes trade would be a big blunder to their system. Fans will be dancing on Yawkey Way if they gave up so easily on this 20 year old stud. Although if its for Santana, its a trade off but still Minnesota would get more years out of him than NY would with Santana
