  1. Fair enough, guys. I have a difficult time looking at someone who roots for their team to lose as a fan. That may just be me, though. I think with a group of veterans, the losing wouldn't be so bad but with as many young players as the Celtics have, confidence must just be plummeting -- and that's something Greg Oden can't restore. Besides, Oden will help, but it's going to take a lot more than him to get the Celtics to where they want to go.
  2. I know it's about Oden and Durant but I keep hearing that Oden's a once in a decade big man. That's nonsense.
  3. Regular season W's are nice but this guy's a proven loser come playoff time.
  4. What's this "once in a decade" crap? Are Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire chopped meat? They may not be of a similar mold, but I'll stick by the fact that I think Dwight Howard is going to be the dominant big man in the NBA for the next ten years.
  5. Number eight in the country and they just beat Rice (#1), apparently. :dunno: You convinced me, Yeszir. I'm betting my life savings on it.
  6. Meant to bring this up the other day... did anyone see the video of Gilbert Arenas' contest with Deshaun Stevenson? Gilbert bet Stevenson that he could make more one-handed college three-pointers than Stevenson could make regular three pointers. Stevenson made 68 of 96 (he didn't take his last four since he had no chance of winning or tieing), but Arenas beat him by making 73 out of 100. Arenas once said he could score 84 points against Duke, and that he would give up an entire season in the NBA just to get to play against Duke once. That, the 84 points, could be possible. :dunno:
  7. I hate people. Why must people complain about everything?
  8. It depends on what you need. I like what Durant brings to the table and he hasn't even scratched his potential. As you all know, I have the great honor of watching Carmelo Anthony play just about every game. The one thing you notice is that 'Melo creates mismatches like just about no other player in the league can. You try and match up against his size and he destroys you with his speed. You put a speedier player on him and 'Melo uses his size to beat you. Once Durant bulks up, and he will eventually, that's how I imagine he'll be. He's got the ability to play down low and he can stretch out the floor and pull down boards and he's doing it right now without an NBA size body, which Oden already has. I like Durant. Give me a player that can knock down a three and then beat you in the low post in the next possession.
  9. I like Acie Law IV too. More importantly, I love how he's got the IV on the back of his uniform. Guy's clutch, too.
  10. Thanks a bunch, SFOC. You really are among the nicest guys on the planet. When the Colts missed the extra point in the first quarter, it costed my roommates uncle $750. When they opted to run on 4th and 6 rather than kick the FG, it costed someone at the party's parents a big screen TV. Hard to feel bad for the parents, though, they had won $1,250 the quarter before.
  11. Just typing this out so I can refer to this easily to see if I won afterwards... I have Colts 6, Bears 9; Colts 0, Bears 8; Colts 4, Bears 8; Colts 1, Bears 8 (that could win it!); Colts 8, Bears 6; Colts 7, Bears 6; Colts 3, Bears 2. I have a very, very good chance here.
  12. Me in.
  13. Yes. Any questions?
  14. From what I remember watching, D-Wade and the officials in the fourth quarter of game three won the Heat that Championship last year. The Suns have lost because they don't have defense. That's the top reason the Mavericks took so long to get to become a great team -- they've started playing defense. I'm not going to argue that a good big man isn't very important. Here's what I'm saying, I guess... if you could look into your crystal ball and see if both players are going to be great, take Oden. But I think that Durant is going to be the better player, period. He hasn't had the physical advantages and when he does get an NBA body, he's going to be a force -- but when everyone else catches up with Oden, and he's playing guys as big as he is, is he going to be as dominant? You're right in that you can find good guards and forwards on the free agent market... you won't find the Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade types available. I think Durant will be in that class once he reaches his potential. I guess what I'm saying is, since I think Oden will be a very good, but not great NBA player, and Durant will be noticably better, at what point does being a Center not make up for the difference in talent? I could be wrong, Oden could be a top 50, or whatever, NBA Player by the time he's done, but I've honestly never gotten that feeling watching him play in college. I just see an NBA body playing with college athletes, really.
  15. Come on, Yankshater, that hardly makes it a fact. All of those teams had more than just a great big man. San Antonio had two early on... the rest had great guards too. Shaq had Kobe, D-Wade, and earlier on Penny Hardaway. All you managed to do was prove that you need more than a great big man to win. Show me the last team without a great player at the 1, 2, or 3 spot. K-Mart was on that 2002 Nets team, too, but let's not kid ourselves, the Nets were great because of Jason Kidd. The Pacers got there because of Reggie Miller. Pistons don't win without Chauncey and Rip. Spurs have Manu and Tony Parker... plus, there center was both Rasho Nasterovic and Nazr Mohammed at different times. Sixers were a lottery team without Iverson. Dirk, despite being 7', plays more like Durant. Karl Malone was complimented by one of the best guards to ever play the game. The Lakers destroyed teams because they had two of the 50 greatest players to play the game. Popular opinion is that Durant hasn't even come near his potential. And he will, over time, fill out and will be able to beat you inside or out.
  16. Nuggets need to play some defense. Losers of four straight. 'Melo and AI look good playing with one another but you can see that the chemistry still needs to develop. As for the Celtics... keep losing. Kevin Durant would look good in a Celtics uniform. As would Oden, but I think Durant's the better player. He was ridiculous against Texas Tech tonight... 37 points 23 rebounds. It is absolutely not fair for a guy to shoot 5 of 9 from three and get 23 rebounds. Not fair at all.
  17. You don't have to tell me... I get excited when someone wants me to play a game or two for their slow pitch softball team...
  18. It's true... they do say that.
  19. Well, Super Bowl is coming up and I'll get the discussion started, I suppose. The NFL recently unveiled the logo for, apparently, the 1987 Super Bowl to be held February 3, 2007 in Glendale, Arizona. The stadium itself looks like something out of the future... the logo looks like something out of the 80's. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/seered81/superbowlxlii.jpg I also found the odds to win Super Bowl XLII. The notable ones... Patriots 10/1, Broncos 15/1, Colts 7/1, Bears 8/1, Browns 100/1 http://www.bodog.com/sports-betting/football-futures.jsp As for the game itself, the Colts (+7) will cover the spread. This has the potential to be a very ugly Super Bowl. If the Colts get some breaks early and get out to a fairly big lead, I think the Colts will win big since Chicago will have to start passing more. If the Bears get out to a big lead, the Colts have the potential to come back.
  20. I've mentioned it before, but I was in David Pauley's P.E. class my freshman year in High School. He was also a good friend of my brothers.
