  1. What do people think Gagne will demand in this market? I'm saying 2 year deal, 4m first season (w/incentives for All-Star, Rolaids, League Leader, IP, APP, etc.,) and a 2m deal for the second season with incentives that kicked in after the first season performance allowing him to earn up to 6 m the second year. Do you all think that's too low or too high? I would usually say that 1-2m on this guy would be a lot, but in this climate where its clear that every team is paying anything to get what they want, I just don't know.
  2. Nice signing for the Yankees. Money talk is all out the window on every single front this year. There have been some amazing prices this year, I guess that's just the flavor. In this market I'm pretty sure that Pettitte is a 15m pitcher.
  3. So, somewhere between horrible and perfect, probably a little more towards horrible.
  4. It is certainly SS average, if not slightly above. On a mediocre team his whole career (except last 6 months in LA) he has averaged 12 HR, 59 RBI and 24 SB. He's got good speed and should rest some concerns as far as guys being able to move from 1st to 3rd or from 2nd to the plate on a basehit. I'm pretty psyched about this move. This guy is more of a role player than a guy like Renteria was (he was supposed to be a star). He should provide adequate defense, good speed and the ability to get some good XBHs. The money is a lot but the money is a lot for everyone and the Sox knew they were going to have to spend. This could be our lineup next year: Lugo Crisp Ortiz Manny Drew Youkilis Lowell Varitek Pedroia with Schilling Matsuzaka Beckett Papelbon Wakefield I think that is a solid, solid team. They do need to do some work on the bullpen, so a Manny trade wouldn't hurt if they can pull one off. But if he stays, and IF he plays, this lineup has the potential to be as good as '03s.
  5. half an hour too late Jacksonian. Fitting though, as there haven't been any substantial rumors for a long time on this one. I'm betting its not going to happen.
  6. My logic would seem to be faulty if there were any substantial discussion going on about moving Dontrelle Willis. I haven't heard any yet so, thus far at least, it appears that the Marlins aren't going to move him immediately. They aren't overly concerned about the possibility of him getting injured at this point.
  7. They will keep him for at least one more season if he has 2 seasons left, especially since those teams would likely be willing to part with the same amount next year at this time for his services, yet all of those players would have played an extra season and incurred added risk with ANOTHER team, not their own.
  8. Is there any actual substance to this discussion? To be competitive, Florida needs young effective players who don't cost a lot of money. Willis is those things, so why would they move him? If they were to move him why would the Yankees be the best team?
  9. We will be very, very happy to have a healthy Jason Varitek this season (god-willing) whether he is hitting extremely well or not. The guy blocks balls very well, calls a good game, can block the plate like nobody I've seen before, and is constant and reassuring behind the plate.
  10. whatever, dude. I guess you're right. Everyone likes Gom's posts and nobody likes Example1 or ORS. I guess we should just leave, like you said.
  11. Get the f*** out of here man. Seriously. It's as if you're writing in the service of all the disgrunteld Yankee fans on this board. It's a RED SOX board and you're a YANKEE fan. YES, you're going to hear about 04 more than the years the Yankees won. Don't be an idiot and stop acting like you were dragged to this board against your will and forced to listen to talk about the Sox. You've made this board less fun because of s*** like this. We used to talk about the Red Sox and now people here spend most of their time responding to asinine proclamations from some dumbass yankee fan. I liked it for awhile, but I figured it was a phase where you would insult the Red Sox to remind us all that you don't like them. How many Yankee boards have you been kicked off of for you to end up here?
  12. amen brotherman
  13. How would Izturis be different from Gonzo? Other than being cheaper and perhaps younger, aren't they both the same offensively poor player? He has a .295 career OBP for crying out loud. Between Cora and Izturis we might as well have Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Papelbon and Wakefield hit (can you use a DH to pinch-hit for a SS?)
  14. The sox really need to get some quality mlb-ready talent and some solid minor league talent out of this deal. They should swallow some money the first year to get extra talent thrown in. Deep in the bowels of 'that other sox site' (looks like MOSH, but isn't) I read discussion about a flip for Miguel Cabrera... we might as well throw it out here. Sox get: Miguel Cabrera, Betemit Dodgers get: Manny-Rammy Florida gets: Ellsbury, Kottaras, Broxton and Kemp or something along those lines. It is basically mixing and matching the best of the Sox and Dodgers farm system to get Cabrera, and likely to establish FLA as a dominant force for years and years to come. What a young nucleus they would have. If I were them I might pull the trigger. If I'm the Sox, however, I don't know about giving up Manny AND Kottaras AND Ellsbury for Miguel Cabrera and Betemit.
  15. Trot Nixon was not offered arbitration. This indicates that a Manny deal is not so imminent. So... Manny, Coco and Drew in the OF? Hopefully sign Lugo and Matsuzaka. Solid lineup: Youkilis Crisp Ortiz Manny Drew Lowell Varitek Lugo Pedroia w/ Pena, Hinske, Cora, backup catcher and maybe Murphy on the bench? Schilling Matsuzaka Beckett Papelbon Wakefield now improve the bullpen and I think we're looking good. We would have 3 OFers who can play CF adequately. (don't take this as "Manny won't be traded", but its defininately not certain and none of the packages I've seen have been very interesting without a 3rd team being involved.)
  16. Wow Gom. Wanna argue about something else, huh? Bill James is worth Cashman himself.
  17. If Nixon comes back its as a 4th OF to play RF or LF, with WMP, Crisp and Drew who can all play LF, RF and CF. That's a versatile OF and if trot playes 1/4 of the time the chances of him getting injured as reduced. They better still get a good 5th OF cause I can easily see 2 injuries out of that crew.
  18. Over the long haul he's not that great though. The Angels would be fine without him at this point. That said, he's got style and plays the game with flare, which makes watching the games more fun. He's a good, slightly above average MLB SS.
  19. It's not the Sox fault that Gonzo wanted multiple years to hit like Mendoza. I think the blame lies somewhere between not signing O-Cab and trading Hanley. Between those two players there was at least ONE quality MLB SS. Hanley sure would have been nice... but I like Beckett and prefer watching good pitching to good hitting, all things being equal.
