  1. I didn't expect ROTY, CY, or MVP. The Sox didn't have anyone really who came close to the stats of the people who will win those awards. But MOTY should have been a lock. I suppose the fact that the Sox are 'expected' to be decent every year while the Guardians are generally expected to be the Guardians, pushed Francona over the top. But that's ridiculous. Farrell took over a team that was the worst in their division last season and didn't just manage them to a playoff game, he managed them to the World Series win. It's completely asinine that he didn't win MOTY.
  2. Francona? I hate you, BBWAA. I hate you so much.
  3. He should enjoy it now. He'll be fired before the 2014 season ends.
  4. Not until 6 EST. It should be Farrell and Hurdle.
  5. I have to agree with Pal. I think he wins this time. I think the only reason he didn't win last year was because of the Triple Crown. I bet that a lot of voters who were on the fence between the two chose Cabrera because of it, and since he didn't make it this time, the swing votes will probably go to Trout.
  6. I am creating this to pre-empt award-related sidetracks in other threads. Come in here! Discuss! Rant about how the guy who won should not have won over the other guy! You know you want to. Fernandez and Myers take the ROTY for 2013. Honestly, I expected Puig, given the hype that surrounded him for the entirety of his first few months in the big leagues. I'm not saying Fernandez didn't deserve to win, (quite the opposite, in fact; I think it was the right choice), but I was definitely surprised that it wasn't Puig.
  7. I am hereby declaring a moratorium on derogatory player nicknames for the foreseeable future.
  8. When have the Yankees ever given more than a passing thought to 'financial wiggle room'? The only reason they don't wear uniforms studded with unnecessary jewels and threaded with platinum is because they'd look tacky.
  9. No, you're totally the Papelbon of mojo. Just as good, but with way more drama than necessary!
  10. 3 games. The Sox never lost more than three games in a row. That happened five times all season. They were also swept only once all season, on the road (Texas).
  11. Baseball-Reference.com is definitely in my top 5 of "Most Used Bookmark Links"
  12. Lackey, though, is the only one to start and win both games. Key in 92 and Hunter in 72 won those games as relievers.
  13. Well, given that the game has been over for almost three days, I think it's about time to close this gamethread. It was a great season.
  14. To be fair, about 99% of the moments in the postseason for the Sox were dramatic this year. Only two real blowouts (Game 1 of both the DS and the WS). Even last night's 6-1 felt more like a 6-5 game most of the way, I suppose because they scored all six by the fourth and then never scored again.
  15. Fred was too busy with college to watch that year!
  16. 1. Cherington 2. Koji 3. Koji 4. Koji 5. Everyone else 6. Koji again 7. Koji
  17. When I woke up this morning to go to work, I had to check the newspaper, and then check four other newspapers at 7-11 just to make sure the Sox actually won the World Motherf***ing Series, as well as the regular World Series. Yep, they did. Holy s***, it wasn't an awesome, awesome dream.
  18. HOLY s*** I missed him! COME BACK!
  19. I would also like to acknowledge the fine contribution by the Cardinals to impoverished children. Soon, a South American village will be inundated with Cardinals World Series Champion shirts, and no one will be forced to wear old burlap again. Plus, hats and towels will be included!
  20. Just reread this post a couple times, and then sit back and really think.
  21. If the Sox lost, I'd like to think I would, at the very least, not resort to racial slurs and borderline psychopathic behavior.
  22. That Twitter feed is f***ing terrible. At first I thought it was funny, but scrolling down it is disgusting. Full on disgusting classless racism against Ortiz and Uehara especially. No one used the N-word, but they might as well have given how many times the word "monkey" was used. Wishing for the Sox's plane to crash or another bombing to happen at Fenway. Ugh. I had to stop reading.
  23. Cardinals vs Boston game is FIXED! Boston will win because of the Boston Massacre, just like Yankees won for 911, etc. ...uh, yeah, New York Yankees, 2001 World Series Champs! Oh, wait.
  24. Pasta Mojo is a sparse but unbeaten 3-0 this postseason as well. But UN mojo is what brought us to this point. All other mojos are unimportant now. If anyone but UN starts the Opening Day 2014 Gamethread I will ban them and rain down my hatred and bloody revenge upon them and their family for a hundred generations.
  25. Ben Cherington deserves a statue only slightly smaller than Yaz's. He also deserves to be eyebrow-deep in tits and bourbon for a solid week.
