    No, not at all. Actually I'd forgotten that he was a White Sox fan, but let's not get into political stuff. I was talking about garden-variety message board White Sox fans, like the ones who have joined here in the past. I think there was one good one, but most of them have sucked.

    While the story of him getting stuck in a bathtub is probably apocryphal, he was a huge man. I think he was 5'11" and 320-350 pounds or so. He lost a lot of weight after he left office though. He even went on hiking tours of Alaska, if you can believe that.

    I still remember exactly where I was when I heard that on the radio. I was delivering pizza (I even remember the street and the house) and I was just about to pull into their driveway. Dave O'Brien was in the middle of explaining how Joe had told Nava to swing at the first pitch because "you'll never get another first pitch" and had to interrupt his story when Nava actually swung at the first pitch! I remember screaming "f*** yeah!" and almost swerving into the telephone pole next to the driveway when I pounded the steering wheel in triumph.

    Some of you seem really excited about Shaw. He's had 20 at-bats, and one really good day. Are you high on him because he's a really good player and much better than Napoli or Sandoval over 20ABs, or are you high on him because he's a player that Ben Cherington didn't choose as a starter and this is just a good opportunity to point at and say that management/ownership/leadership suck? What happens if the Sox give him the rest of the playing time over the course of the season and he doesn't hit two home runs every game and instead plays like a triple-A player? He's starting off the same way as Daniel Nava did, and we all know how much everyone here loves Daniel Nava.

    Probably not as much. With kids, especially ones under 10, you can raise them with their spirits beaten. With adults, they already have decades of their own personality in them and you have to deal with slave uprisings and the like. It's not worth all of the trouble.

    Nor am I, however that is because it means that it's raining here too, and while I usually love the rain, I had yardwork to do and now I have to do it another day, probably a much hotter day.

    I like mvp and all, but I have to figure any woman willing to put up with him for presumably the rest of her life has to be way too awesome to cheat on. Hell, that's why I never cheat. A woman who puts up with my s*** is worth her weight in Red Sox World Series rings.

    This is basically what I've always thought. He's not actually trying to be a douche, he's just so white-trash ignorant that he comes off as a jerk. If he had no baseball talent I think he'd be living in a trailer with five kids whose names all begin with the same letter and a wife who weighs three times as much as he does.

    I know this might be a controversial opinion, but the Red Sox are not very good this season.

    That seems really lame. Oh well. That one play is actually a perfect representation of the Red Sox season so far. If you condensed Bill Mueller's walkoff against Mariano Rivera into a .gif, you'd have the '04 season. If you condensed Papelbon pumping his fist, you'd have '07. Condense Papi yelling "this is our f***ing city", you have the '13 season. Make the Mookie play into a .gif, and you have every other season between '04 and now, except maybe 2008.

    Can someone explain to me why that play was a home run? I thought that once the fielder is determined to have control of the ball, it doesn't matter if he drops it. I mean, Mookie took a couple steps after hauling that in.
