Brock Holt did really well in about 15-20 games and everyone was clamoring to have Napoli or Sandoval wiped off of the face of the Earth with a satellite-mounted laser and have Brock Holt's visage etched onto Mount Rushmore with that same laser. Then he started playing full time and it turned out that he was exactly what he should have been billed as all along: an excellent utility player and an at-best-serviceable full time player. I don't know why you think he would be "above average" based on limited stats, but I have to disagree on this point at least. The rest of what you said, I can see your points.

    This is the first time it has happened with 15 games. It happened a couple times back when there were fewer teams and games per day. So this is really the first time since 1998, when the last of the current 30 teams was created. Given 30 teams, 15 games, the difference in each season in the win/loss records of those teams, and the innumerable possibilites involved in baseball, it's actually astonishing that it only took 17 years for this to happen. Mathematically, it was far more likely that baseball could have continued as-is for another century before this occurred.

    Yeah Willis is the first one I think of as far as guys from around the time I started watching baseball. Brandon Webb comes to mind, as well. One Cy Young award and then I don't think I ever heard his name again.

    RedSoxRooter started 13 GTs in a row (12 wins plus the last one, which was a loss) in 2006. I remembered the 12-game win streak because it was all against NL teams and ended when the Sox lost to Dontrelle Willis and the Marlins back when Willis was relevant. I had to check to see who started the threads though.
