  1. A loss always sucks, but Wright pitched the whole game in the first game of a double-header, saving the Sox from using the bullpen in a loss with another game coming up. Despite the L, that can't be understated. Additionally, he kept the Sox in a good position to win, the offense just didn't capitalize. Strange as it may seem, I found this game encouraging in that Wright continued to pitch well.
  2. Yeah, I always thought that was a little strange. I guess he saw what he thought was a good investment opportunity.
  3. Alright, well, we have devolved into political bashing, which I guess I should have expected. Let's stay focused on the non-political-specific topics. You guys can argue about bankruptcy laws and business acumen until your fingers fall off, I don't really care. You can talk about how you love Schilling or don't like him because of his very loud opinions. I've already done that anyways. However, the next post that contains the words liberal, conservative, or anything of the like, is going to get this locked. There are a lot of places for that kind of thing, but a cursory glance at the AG and F&C archives should show you what kind of Molotov cocktails start flying when that stuff starts being debated. Besides all that, this is the Talk Sox forum, so let's try to keep that in mind at the very least.
  4. Well, this sucks. I guess the only positive thing I can say right now is that the Sox can still win. In 2012, 2014, or 2015, this would have been basically the end of the game.
  5. You do remember the Sox manager in 2012, right?
  6. Well, I guess I'm just not as enlightened as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I suppose I'll have to live with that.
  7. Gonzalez canned today as Braves Manager. That was not unexpected at all. I wonder if anyone in the organization actually thinks that this will help the team at all, or if they just fired him because they sort of had to.
  8. I dislike him as a person based on all of his personal opinions that he has made public in the years since he left the Red Sox. I'm not sure whether there is any better basis short of meeting someone in person on which to form an opinion. We're not talking about a recluse, here. He's been very vocal about and with his personality for several years now. Unless you're suggesting that all of the things he says are not what he truly believes, I think it's a pretty good basis for my statement.
  9. This basically sums up everything, I think. You can choose whether or not to dislike the guy based on this. I dislike him, as a person. However, I will always respect him and like him as a baseball player because of what he did for the Sox. Whether you agree with the non-baseball related stuff he says or not, what it comes down to is that any business wanting to avoid the possibility of losing ad revenue or ending up on the wrong end of a negative PR campaign is going to fire an employee who makes controversial statements about pretty much anything. That's capitalism at it's finest. Arguing in endless loops about why he said what he said, what it means, whether ESPN agrees or disagrees with it, or what kind of a person he is is useless. ESPN made a business decision.
  10. Connor Mullee looks like a 12-year old wearing his dad's uniform. It looks like it'll be another 10 years before he even has to worry about the Yankee's facial hair policy.
  11. In the few days since I removed this thread from the top of the Talk Sox forum, we have had a welcome thread for one user created by another user in the General Baseball forum, a thread created for a video clip of a girl's softball game in the Talk Sox forum, and a thread about a topic we were discussing in the General Baseball forum created in the Talk Sox forum. I guess I should keep this up a while longer.
  12. We were already having a pretty lively discussion about the incident in the General Baseball thread, but this was a pretty ridiculous incident deserving of it's own thread, I guess. I've moved the discussion here. Also, you should really calm down with the posts. You replied three times to your own thread, a few minutes apart. I'm not sure exactly why that all couldn't have been contained in your initial post, but long conversations with yourself are a little worrying.
  13. I'm going to change the title from "vs. Houston Astros" to "@ Kansas City Royals". It might be a bit nitpicky of me, but...
  14. I don't know. My dad is a plumber, but when I had my own place I still fixed the leaky pipe under the sink by wrapping it in a solid inch-thick cover of duct tape.
  15. I just watched the replay of Kendrys Morales' walk-off today. I thought it was kind of funny how he approached the plate. After he broke his leg jumping on home plate a few years ago, he stopped a few feet short and walked up to it very calmly. Once bitten, I guess, but it still looked funny compared to how most guys jump on home like they're playing a giant game of Whack-a-Mole.
  16. Porcello body-slammed Youkilis.
  17. That was a really serious punch. Odor is a moron. Punching a guy in the face because he slid hard into second? f*** you, dude, that's baseball. It might be against the rules now, but that's what guys do. They slide hard to try and break up the double play. Get pissed if you want, but don't throw punches. Odor needs to be absolutely destroyed by the disciplinary decision.
  18. Thank you ever so much for your permission, but I think I'll move it to the BDC welcome thread now, instead.
  19. Guerrero yes, but according to Baseball Reference, Thome, Santana, and both Jones' aren't eligible until the 2018 vote.
  20. Hoffman will probably get in during the next vote. He got 67 percent of the 75 he needed in his first year. Schilling probably will, too. He jumped from 39 percent to 52 percent, so he will likely make it to 75 either this year or next. Bagwell jumped from 55 percent to 71 last year, so he's probably in on the next one. I think Tim Raines might make it too. I just looked at the next induction voting list. A lot of interesting possibilities on this one. Manny, Ivan Rodriguez, Posada, Magglio Ordonez. And besides Manny, there are a lot of former Sox on the list this year. JD Drew, Tek, Lugo, Renteria, Wakefield, O-Cab, and Mike Cameron are all on the list. I don't think most of them have a chance in hell, but making an argument for Wakefield could be interesting.
  21. Oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot him considering we're still discussing him in another thread. I might also include Bagwell.
  22. Wow, this has not been a stellar defensive game on either side. 3 errors for the Sox and 2 for the Astros, and that's being generous. There were a couple plays that could have gone for errors depending on the official scorer.
  23. As long as the other team doesn't have 9.
  24. Is Kimbrel available? If not, insurance runs please.
  25. I hate agreeing with you. It feels like letting a criminal go because of misfiled paperwork or lost evidence. Technically correct, but my skin still crawls at the thought. Anyways, I agree. I would also add Pete Rose. Rose can still inspire arguments, but given all of the research that has gone into proving that Jackson likely did nothing wrong, he should have been exonerated and inducted a long time ago.
