  1. They hang around in the gamethreads with all of the rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, s***-kickers and Methodists.
  2. Between the two, I think XB actually is more likely to go further than 30. JBJ is killing it right now, but he can't sustain the amazing pace he's on forever. Eventually he'll "settle down". He'll still be above average, I believe, but I don't think he'll be hitting close to .500 for the rest of the season. On the other hand, XB has a solid history of multiple-hit games. He may not have the same amount of power as JBJ is showing now, but I think he has the staying power for a hit streak even longer than JBJs.
  3. I think if they shot him out of a circus cannon, he might just get the distance.
  4. Yastrzemski gets me every time. Thankfully the trivia site I use accepts "Yaz" as an alternate answer for any quizzes in which he is a correct answer. Thank goodness for all of those people who make quizzes for those of us who have enough trouble spelling "Youkilis".
  5. I deleted the post because it was not necessary. I locked the thread, my final post was not intended to invite yet another response. I am also deleting the last couple comments, MVP and Dojji, to keep the discussion from the locked thread from spilling over into here and dragging this one off-topic as well. It's not a judgement against you guys.
  6. And yes, it is being locked, because it hasn't been about Wade Boggs for a page and a half. It was a valiant effort, and the topic was fine, but it just didn't work out.
  7. It's not a whiny complaint, you petulant little brat, it's a request, from me, politely, to keep the forum from being overrun with threads. Do you have any idea how many threads I have merged into existing ones in the last month? If I hadn't done that, the first four pages of this forum would be filled with threads, all with less than 10 posts. You'd have to go back five pages just to find a serious discussion about anything other than a fleeting issue. I'm done being polite. If you guys want to ignore my requests to stop creating a thread every time you find a player's name funny or enjoyed watching tonight's game, I can't stop you. I won't ban you for something that stupid, but I'm going to keep getting rid of them until you get the point. But you can sure as hell cut it out with the damned whining about it. Every day I read a half dozen posts from you and SinceYaz that oh-so-snarkily make it clear what you think about it. Since being calm, reasonable, and continually patient just does not seem to get the message across, maybe I should start acting a little more like the jackbooted thug you apparently think I am. Just remember: If I really was a totalitarian dickhead, I'd have gotten rid of all of you the first time you got all pissy at me for merging your threads about the Red Sox Offense into the Red Sox Offense thread.
  8. David Ortiz will not be in the Hall of Fame because he is 7000th in career SBs.
  9. I'm not saying I disagree with you either, I'm just saying that you can never use one stat, especially one like exit velocity, and use that as confirmation that he is not good. I'm not saying you're doing that, but some people have a tendency to.
  10. This is pretty much how I feel. Not every Red Sox player who goes to the Yankees is automatically a horrible traitor. Sometimes the Sox screw the pooch and leave them no choice. Um...what?
  11. Can someone explain the proliferation of "exit velocity" this season? I had never heard anyone reference this statistic on the air before that I can recall, and I know it has been a part of Statcast on MLB.com for their HR replays, but since Opening Day Castiglione has mentioned it a hundred times on the radio. Every game he mentions how Ortiz is leading the league in exit velocity, he gives us the speed of every HR or hard-hit double/triple, he even mentions the velocity on hard-hit outs. As early as last year, the words "exit velocity" never came out of his mouth, and now it happens a dozen times per game. I've noticed it more on TV replays on MLB.com for other teams as well.
  12. Every player, no matter how great they are overall, is going to be at or near the bottom in some statistical category, especially when new categories get added all the time.
  13. I don't want him to die. I just want him to swim until he washes up on a desert island where he can't hurt us anymore. He can live like Tom Hanks in Cast Away, talking to a volleyball. Until he throws it at a tree and it bounces back and flies 400 feet to land in the Monster seats.
  14. He needs to be dropped, alright. Out of a plane, over the ocean.
  15. I didn't mean posting the article so much as making it a new thread, and I was half-kidding. That's why I put it in the GT instead of deleting it. Yeah, it was pretty significant, though I was surprised at how much press it got on MLB.com and outside of New England. I mean, he hadn't even hit 30 games yet. Even for a Red Sox player the media attention was far more pervasive early on than I expected.
  16. Okay, now this is sort of trolling.
  17. Yeah, the streak may have ended, but if it was even a little windier today he'd be at 30. I wouldn't worry about where he bats in the order, he only batted leadoff today because Betts had the day off anyways.
  18. I just got home from work. What's the consensus? Is Buchholz pitching poorly? Has anyone mentioned yet that he is not good?
  19. Not mine, his. But I get your point. I just wanted to make sure, as a Yankees fan, you weren't feeling too comfortable around here. And illinoisredsox, yeah, I understand. Sometimes BR.com does weird default things when I am looking something up. But I think you are right, 2007 still wasn't an overwhelmingly great season considering what we were all expecting going into it.
  20. I wouldn't chuckle too loud. Your team has had it's share of over-hyped Japanese pitchers imploding in the starting rotation.
  21. Clay needs to pitch like he'll get a free carload of middle school kids' laptops if he wins.
  22. What? Dice-K started 32 games in 2007, he didn't pitch even one game in relief.
  23. And in 2007, all of them were hit by Mike Lowell.
  24. Yes. Good pitchers are much harder to find than good infielders. While neither of them may end up being stars, I'd rather take the chance on a pitcher than a second baseman, there is far more depth available at 2B if you need it, through the farm or free agency. I don't think that trade would be likely to happen, though.
  25. I think I owe all of my high school teachers a heartfelt apology.
