  1. Didn't you create a WAR thread like two days ago? And didn't you yourself mention later that it probably should have gone in the offense thread? And didn't I then move it to that thread? Honestly I'm starting to feel like you guys are doing this on purpose.
  2. The reason this thread was back three pages was because of the sheer number of threads started in the last month and a half. Normally threads that haven't been used in a few weeks are still on the front page, because the discussions are generally confined to a few active threads. Now we have threads started by people who have only been here a few weeks that are already bumped back to page 3. This is why I keep merging them. If I didn't, we'd get to the point where people are trying to have discussions in active threads that aren't even on the front page because they're being pushed down so quickly. Now, onto the topic at hand. I don't think Swihart has staked a claim on anything. He's only been playing LF for what, a week? Not even? He's filling in for someone because they don't have a better option to use right now. If David Ortiz gets the flu and has to sit for three days, and Hanley takes over as the DH and does well, we wouldn't ask if he'd staked a claim as the new DH. Swihart is basically doing the same thing. He's filling in while Holt is recovering from a concussion. Think of him like a drink coaster folded up under a wobbly chair leg. It works fine for the night, but in the morning you aren't going to make it permanent, you're going to throw it away and sand down the other chair legs until it doesn't wobble anymore.
  3. You guys couldn't have spent the morning in the Breakfast Cereal thread, huh?
  4. I didn't reject your friend request because I don't like you, I just did it because I do it with everyone. I prefer to keep my profile uncluttered, plus it avoids accusations of favoritism, especially since the friend requests don't actually do anything on this site.
  5. So you're clearly just ignoring me now. Since this thread is destined to not become a place for anything other than rehashing BDC board problems, I guess it's going to close.
  6. Holy crap, stop it. We moved past this discussion hours ago and you had to quote a post from 4 in the afternoon just to insult someone? Stop it.
  7. Did you miss the part where I asked everyone to stop posting this stuff?
  8. Okay, now I have to flat-out disagree with you. While I obviously can't say with certainty that you are incorrect about either of those things, those are far from the only possibilities.
  9. The entire bullpen better band together and buy the guy a fruit basket or something. He's single-handedly saved them probably a collective 15 innings worth of arm use.
  10. I've said this a dozen times already, but I have to say it again: Every day this team reminds me more and more of the 2013 team. 2004 and 2007 were a deep team full of guys you expected to play at the level they are playing. But 2013 and 2016 were/are teams that are full of a lot of guys performing far beyond what we could have hoped for. They also both have that tendency to never seem out of games until the final out. I love it.
  11. They met with the DJ and seem to have accepted that it was a mistake and not an intentionally discriminatory thing. They even asked that he be rehired. From some of their statements, I think they're a little embarrassed at their own quick reaction before knowing all of the details. Nice to see both sides seem to want to make this the non-issue it is.
  12. I'm leaving now, I look forward to reading a lot of interesting Ortiz and HOF-related baseball posts when I get back tonight. Have fun, everyone!
  13. 4 doesn't seem that large, three is pretty common, what's one more, especially when they're deserving. I'm not sure about Vlad, though. I just never saw him as a HOFer.
  14. Oh man, this thread is just a moderation dream. Dojji, I love you man, but you really could have made this point by just making the point without bringing nationality into it. Let's everyone just not even start down this road, I'm begging you.
  15. Dojji was correct, and thank you for acknowledging that. Given the situation in this thread, I'd like to ask you to simply ignore any of the posts questioning your reasons for posting and respond only to the ones about the topic. Hopefully that will get things back on track. And try not to respond to personal attacks with ones of your own in the future. The best way to defuse accusations of trolling is to ignore the people who accuse you of it.
  16. No one got banned for questioning the moderator. Someone got banned for ignoring the moderator's request to keep things on topic and then sending the moderator harassing PMs including one calling him a "pussy". My job as a moderator is to ensure the rules are being followed, but that does not mean I cannot take sides. I can take sides in a debate about which player is better, which team has a better chance of winning, or which breakfast cereal is the best (Cap'n Crunch, for the record). And I can certainly take sides in this stupid, petty argument when one side is "you are wrong, stop doing what you are doing." That is why I'm here. I have already asked TBSB not to respond like that to the posts that were made, and since I have asked he has toned it down. And on top of that, he was responding not to legitimate, constructive comments, but to people calling him a troll for stating his opinion. Not one of his insulting posts spontaneously emerged from vacuum, they were defensive responses to personal attacks. Yes, they were wrong, but I acknowledged that and asked him to stop along with you guys. The topic of this thread was Red Sox Records, and I say for the fifteenth time or so, Ortiz's HOF case is a great topic for that discussion. That is how discussions work. They flow from one related topic to another. The only people who were inflamed by TBSB's posts were people who let themselves be inflamed instead of responding normally to a baseball-related post, all because of the perceived unreasonability of things that happened on another site. I am done talking about this. I am done constantly posting the same replies, just differently worded, to the same complaints. This is my final word on the subject: Stop talking about TBSB. Keep talking about the topic, but stop talking about him. Stop using your experience with previous moderators as some kind of yardstick with which to measure me. I'm not banning people for questioning me, I ban people when they are *******s. Talk about David Ortiz and the PED issue. Talk about JBJs hitting streak. Talk about Pedroia's record for shortest Red Sox player for all I care. But the discussion of whether or not TBSB was trolling is over. It's done. You spent far more time arguing your side of that debate than any of you did arguing the baseball-related implications of his opinion, and that is dumb. So it's done.
  17. You couldn't have posted those links all at once?
  18. You deleted that post with the link. Do you want me to undelete it? I don't remember if you guys can undelete your own posts or not.
  19. I took the side of the baseball debate. Babe is as new as you are, this has nothing to do with how long anyone has been here. Defending Ortiz does not deserve censure, and no one is censoring you. Defend Ortiz all you want, that's what this discussion is about. Just do it with baseball-related conversation instead of attacking the person who posted it directly. Respond to the post, not the person who made it. If you disagree with something, say why, don't dismiss it based on the messenger.
  20. Nobody knows, including Ortiz himself. There is no link. However, the mere accusation is enough these days to cause suspicion. That may be unfair or even outright wrong, but it is the truth. The fact that his name has been associated with PEDs in any way is enough to bring the cloud of PEDs hovering over so many stars of the 90's and 00's over his head as well.
  21. We have several threads going at the moment where the positive accomplishments of this year's team could have been discussed. This thread was about Red Sox records. I think David Ortiz's HOF candidacy and associated issues are a perfect topic for that header.
  22. I've never heard anything about Bagwell, I always assumed he was still not in just because his stats were on the edge of acceptability. I figured he'd get in after a while on the ballot. As far as the Ortiz thing, it may be widely acknowledged, but the seriousness of it seems to be pretty low. Most of the articles I can find never really suggest that he was using regularly. In fact, most of them imply that a lot of the names leaked from that initial list might not have been exactly on the level. I still agree with you that it will be a consideration, but I think you might be overstating how much of a consideration. I think he'll get in, but I think it will take four or five years of voting before he does.
  23. You're being redundant.
  24. Now, to prevent me from looking silly, please elaborate on your original post. Some of the other users have a point in that Ortiz's PED connection is not nearly as strong, public, or well-known as others, which suggests it is not all that serious. What about it makes you think it might arise as an issue in 2021?
  25. All small groups of online fans, from sports teams to TV shows to weird fetishes (not, uh, that I would know about those personally), have that sense. It comes from cloistering yourself in a cyberspace community with only a small group of other people who share your fandom. It's a sense of "this thing we like is the best of it's kind, no matter how bad it is compared to others. Anyone who doesn't agree clearly doesn't understand. We do, therefore we are superior to all other human beings in this regard."
