Yea but that arbitration stuff doesnt seem like a big deal, but it really is. For instanc,e we could have been paying Jeter a "reasonable" salary when he was arbitration eligible, but instead Cashman offered a dirt salary and Jeter won his hearing, granting him loads of money. money that could have been used in other places. But not that it matters, we were the best team in 1998. So with the 60 day DL thing, if a pitcher for instance is on the 60 day DL, is any other pitcher who was called up after September 1st is eligible to take his spot?

Too bad Hansen nor Papelbon (I dont believe) are postseason eligible. That would make for a good back end of the pen for the playoffs. Was Papelbon on the roster Aug. 31st? I dont remember, if so then he is playoff eligible. also, do you guys think it was a good idea bringing Hanley up. Seriously, not only will he be arbitration eligible a year earlier now, but now you guys have wasted an option year for 13 games. Now that will be one less year that you guys will be able to call him up and send him down (in case of injury on the MLB roster) without having to get him through waivers.

what a game. Wang was outstanding for 8 innings (except for the little bit of trouble he got into in the 1st and 3rd, if you even want to call it trouble), good defense, and not to mention a walkoff home run. Now I will be the first to admit that when Bubba walked up to the plate I was like "c'mon Torre, where's Ruben" but im glad he sent Bubba up. And to make the night even better TB wins (after almost giving me a heart attack when Baez gave up the homer to Ortiz with Manny coming up) and now were a game and a half back!!

just because you guys have a winning record over TB this year doesnt mean your guaranteed victory during this series. Just like Baltimore having a winning record over us doesnt guarantee them victory. We play 19 games against a division opponent for a reason.

my bad A DH can win MVP. But the thig here is that A-Rod and Ortiz's seasons are so even offensively, that you need something to push one over the top. And because A-Rod is a pretty good 3Bmen as opposed to Ortiz who is a DH, that pushes him over the top. If this award were based solely on hitting than this debate would be more than fair. But the fact of the matter is that it is not the Most Valueable Hitter, but the Most Valueable Player. It is pretty clear that Ortiz is the Silver Slugger winner at the DH position, the award for the best hitter. Whether or not he wins the MVP award, for the best player, has yet to be determined. And it will do us no good argueing because we are not the ones who decide.

actually A-Rod has 1 more Home Run. Good arguements. But I dont think its about which team would be worse without their MVP candidate.

have to agree with you. Optimist, though some of the calls on the corners have been questionable this weekend, theyve been questionable for both teams so we really cant complain. Now if we could just completely forget about this game I would be very happy. A tough loss.

O yea, a guy whose only played in the American League for a grand total of approximately 3 weeks this year. If I had a vote it would definately be for Matt Lawton.

A-Rod has 1 under his belt. This is his second. I dont see how oyu can deny that A-Rod has become a very good 3B. He always makes the plays, has a great arm and throws out a lot of runners that some 3Bmen wouldnt be able to, and hes just been fun to watch during his transition. Please lets not even start comparing Ortiz to Rice. 2 different eras, its ridiculous. no he didnt. He was asking for the recent stats on A-Rod, not the past. Because as we all know A-Rod was having a hard time at 3B earlier in the year. So he was asking the stats over the last 3 months.

yea man, i was locked in watching the 9th inning of the Cleveland game. But I let myself down after I got my hopes up. Wickman has been too good this year to blow that game.

well your prediction was a little off. Before the game I would have agreed with the Yanks putting up the big runs, but not with the Jays putting up 5. Theyre not that good an offensive club and I would have expected Chacon to be at his best. But regardless neither happened. Ecstatic with the pitching. Thrilled with the defense. I was a little nervous when Flash came out. He hasnt been that great lately, been a little up and down. I would have preferred to leave Chacon out there. But I cant blame Torre. He was caught between a rock and a hard place. Had he left Chacon out there and he blew it everyone would be asking why there was no relief in the ninth. But had Gordon blown it everybody would be asking why Chacon didnt pitch the 9th after looking superb through 8. Anyways, good win. Now I just have to hope for an Oakland comeback (no point in pulling for the Royals, no way they're overcoming the deficit Cleveland has on them at this point).

I have faith in Chacon. He has been an answered prayer since coming over in July, though it is no secret that he has had games where he has struggled. But all in all he has been more than what we could have asked of him.

this was a pretty tough loss. I left after we put the 11 up because I had to go out, and when I came home I was not happy about seeing the score. If we cant hold a 7 run lead in September what makes us think we can hold a 1 oe 2 run lead in October. But still, RJ being ejected was ******** and had he not been ejected they probably wouldnt have came back as we'd only need the bullpen for a few innings rather than 7+. But like A-Rod said, a win is a win. Its just too bad Yabu had to hit Manny with the BASES LOADED!!!!!!! otherwise we could only be a half game back now and even in the loss column.

i didnt say he did, the coma was seperating Quezeda with the guy from staten island, i wasnt reffering Quezeda as the guy who played in Staten Island. And I wasnt trying to say that those guys would get the deal done, I was just naming guys that cab be packaged. I know it would take a lot more than that. And on DePaula is a year out of Tommy John surgery. of coarse he isnt going to be that good. But he did make the Yankees rotation out of camp last year, pitched 7 perfect innings in his ML debut in 2003, and until this year showed great potential. A lot of clubs take chances on guys like this and a number of times come up big. You have to give him more than a year out of surgery to determine if he is going to be good or not. I wouldnt want to trade Eric Duncan. I would try to work something out with other prospects in the organization. If we cant get something done then we should cut off the talks. Getting Hunter would be a great addition to any team, but I wouldnt give up my best prospect for a CFer who would be in CF for several years to come when I have a guy in the minors who is supposed to be our next Center Fielder. (Melky. And before everybody goes and starts bashing him, its not fair to say anything based on a premature callup. This kid is highly touted and has always been very good in the minors.)

But other options that are not any of the "big 4" include Elvyz Quezeda (misspelled), the guy who had the GREAT year in Staten Island (forget his name), Shelley Duncan (their 2B situation is not great, and Shelley has looked good all year), Mitch Jones (IL Home Run leader, a little older, around 27 I believe, but could be worked into a package), Depaula (to replace Loshe who will most likely be gone due to the fact that him and the front office dont have the best relationship, and he hasnt been that great, and DePaula before his surgery showed great potential and promise), I wouldnt mind giving up Crosby in return, he isnt going to progress much from here on out and seems like the type of guy that would fit in perfectly with the Twins. The guys are there, I just dont know what kind of package we would have to put together.
