Damon turned down a bigger offer?
26 to 6 replied to 26 Reasons to Hate Us's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Thats hwat I think. I didnt believe him when he said that he had a 6 year deal on the table. -
The reason everything is so close together and not spaced out is that for some reason spaces are not recognized. I had it very organized looking when I was typing the post, but after I posted this is how it came out (the reason why I went back in and bloded all of the names). The First set of years are the years spent with the Red Sox, the second set are the years spent with the Yankees. Sorry for the sloppiness

Even though he only spent a portion of a season in LA does it bother you that he will be going to SF? Especially considering that he practically won you guys the division with his walkoff?
-
looks like I missed it...what did it say? As to Matt Lawton, I feel for him, doesnt excuse the fact that he was wrong, but I understand where he is coming from. He wanted to prove to the Yankees and to the World that he belonged. He had never been in a playoff hunt before and he wanted it very bad. I accept his appology and think that it is very sincere.

lol
-
Well thats what I have been hearing. I am allowed to be mistaken, but I know I heard it a few times
-
Damon said that he called Luccino PERSONALLY and he refused to match it. If the Sox had matched the deal there is no doubt Damon would be there and not here.
-
Jeter is a number 2 hitter, always has been. Only reason he batted leadoff was because of the lack of a leadoff guy. Damon will hop in front of Jeter in the order. bernie will spell Damon a day here or there in Center Field. Bernie will be the first guy off the bench in a pinch-hit situation, Bernie will DH when Giambi plays first, and Bernie will be the guy who fills in if an outfielder gets injured and has to go on the DL. I dont recall Sheffield hating Damon :dunno: Dont set high expectations like that. Last year we were supposed to be a team that would win 161 games, and look what happened. You win games on the field, not on paper. The paper doesnt tell you how a player will age, if a player will slump, if a player gets hurt, etc.. This is odd, I wanted Damon back when he was a Free Agent with Oakland before he went to Boston, but of coarse we got Rondell White instead. Funny how this came full circle. Same with Dotel, I would have killed for Dotel a few years back. Last year at this time I would have bet myl ife that Damon would be a Yankee this year. As last year went on and the offseason approached I obviously backed off, so even though I predicted this last winter, this is still a surprise to me. I was convinced he was going back to Boston.

With holes at short and center ...........

How do you know, he has been in the league ONE YEAR? -
wow....this thread has to have set records for most posts in 2 days. Last I posted on it last night it was like page 5, here I am on page 14. WOW Anyways, looks as if you guys are crying about us "buying" pennants and all that other ********, nothing out of the norm, and im gettin really tired of it. Fact of the matter is you guys had an opprotunity to sign him but instead, like with every other significant player in Red Sox history, (with the exception of a handful) you let him go. I could type for an hour about how dysfunctional the Red Sox organization is, but I will spare myself the time, frustration, and aggravation. Fact of the matter is we got him, and though im not thrilled about it, it is somewhat nice.
-
You guys werent laughing about that when he was in Boston, were you?
-
Zach, you better not rub it in, im going to need therapy if that is the case.
-
I agree, ive expressed all year that I really dont want Damon. I would have preferred someone who could play a solid CF for a year or 2 then let Melky come on up. But this will due I suppose.
-
As I told you a few mimutes ago, multiply how your feeling by 10 and that is how I will be feeling if Roger goes back up there.

dammm 3 pages ALREADY!! I was in bed and turned on the radio for a quick second and heard the news and knew i HAD to jump on here...looks like all u guys had me beat. OK, well as you all know I wasnt pulling to get Damon, I dont like his arm or the fact that he could potentially block Melky. But I ike the fact that he is a leadoff guy. So as long as this doesnt hurt Melky's chances then I dont mind as much. But god forbid if he doesnt hit and that noodle of an arm gets worse then I am goign to hate everybody involved in this deal. Damon Jeter Giambi Rodriguez Sheffield Matsui Cano Posada Bernie/Phillips Not too bad.

I wouldnt mind taking Patterson. He and Crosby could keep it hot for Melky. -
I think the Rangers are stupid for this deal. Trading Gonzalez AND Young. Whatever though, did what they had to do.

Good move, I think Jones was pretty underrated in Minnesota playing behind Hunter and Shannon Stewart.
