  1. A lot of teams do this. It isnt necessarily a Red Sox, 86 year thing. A lot of the front office execs, players, coaches, and even in some cases broadcasters (I know Rex Hudler and his partner got rings in 2002, and i'm sure its happened on other occasions). I know that the Yankees dont limit the rings to players who were on the team when the World Series was one. I know in 1996 Ruben Sierra got a ring although he was traded half way through the '96 season. Those are just a few specifics, there have obviously been plenty more instances. So really the only thing done because of the 86 years thing is that they gave rings to a bunch of the old players. I am of the belief that all teams should give rings to all players who were on their active roster at some point in the year. The way I see it, if they were a part of that tteam, then they deserve it. If the team wants to limit the financial share, fine, but rings are a different story IMO.
  2. I dont remember Jim Tracy saying anything. I could be wrong, but I really dont remember hearing him say anything.
  3. Jerk! lol, jp
  4. What an offseason. I dont normally follow Football too closely, but how could you not follow it with alll of these big name guys moving all over. Why are so many guys getting released, and traded and whatnot? Does it have anything to do with that players/owners stuff that was going on with the CBA?
  5. Me Too That was also Alan Embree's debut as well, right? If not his debut, the day he was picked up. I remember walking on Rupert Place and someone had 1050 on and I heard that he was picked up by the team and would be available today ....and to think-I was HAPPY when hearing that It's not necessairly that I dont understand the stats, althouth I admit I dont understand some of the stats you guys, and you in particular throw out there. It's more that I know that there is a hell of a lot more that goes into success and a lot more to the game of baseball than numbers. Yes, there is mechanics, and luck (especially). And those are huge, just as big as stats IMO. I know when I played before I hurt my knee that I HATED looking at the numbers when the AD provided them. I would rather go 0-3 with a sac-fly RBI than go 4-4 with nobody on, regardless of the effects on my average. Oh, well in that case, thank you then.
  6. So Papelbon being good last year isnt a fluke? But Chacon and Small's good years are? I dont get it. I dont see why a red SOx fan can never find it in themselves to give a Yankee (or the Yankees) some credit. I just dont. I never have any problem giving a Sox player credit, but all you guys know how to do when it comes to the Yankees is discredit. Well how about we let this debate get settled out on the field. Then we'll see. And I agree, I doubt Small is anywhere near as good as he was last year, however I think Chacon will be as good, if not better. And on the Chacon subject, or just the subject of players/pitchers in general. I hate to break it to you guys, but every player can't be perfect. Yea, he walks some guys and whatnot, but he still didnt allow any runs and has looked damn good this year. However, if a player doesnt provide perfection he's crap to you guys. But its only the case with 29 teams, with the exception being the Sox. Pitchig was HORRIBLE last year and you guys act like you have the best rotation in the league, but our guys have to prove themselves again. Now I dont disagree that they should prove themselves, but how about the Sox pitchers having to do the same? I mean, you guys have already annointed them the greatest pitching staff in the history of baseball. A staff of guys with injury problems, inexperience, age, inconsistancy, etc. I think it's your guys that should have to prove themselves. Sox fans...I understand that your team runs on a stat-based philosophy. However, I have said it many times, and I hate to have to do it again, but..there is more to baseball than numbers. There is the human element. Just from what i've seen from Small at the end of last year and this spring so far, stats aside, I feel he is going to not be as good this year. However, with the same reasoning, I think the exact opposite in Chacon's case.
  7. Do I sense some sarcasm?? And yea, you should have seen the look on my face when I heard Damon was hurt . I CAN'T WAIT to hear what George has to say.
  8. So he should just get away with it?
  9. I think im gonna walk up to somebody in school tomorrow, throw s*** at them, and when I get in trouble im gonna say "they shoulda moved"
  10. Thank You. At least you agree with me somewhat. I just find Curt's statement ridiculous. But you're absolutely right, he always has and always will have a big, controversial mouth.
  11. Anybody know where I can get a COMPLETE transaction list? As I watch some Spring Training games I see guys playing for certain teams that I wasnt aware they were playing for, and have not recorded on my list. Brian Boehringer for example is in Cubs camp. I hadnt heard this at all until watching the game today. Last I knew he has retired from AAA Columbus last season.
  12. Oh my god guys, shut up! It's Spring Training, and even prior to this outing he had been very good in his previous outings. So because he walked a few guys, RSN is making him out to be the worst control pitcher of all time.
  13. I wish I would have been able to see that Ortiz shot. I didnt get home until 4:30 from PT. When I turned it off to come on the computer it was 7-1 I think. But I wasnt too into it, I was watching the Cubs/Rockies game.
  14. Thank You ORS, the first good post in this thread I have read so far coming from a Sox fan. You people are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. So it's Duffy's fault he got hit? I mean yea, I understand Curt wasnt trying to hit him intentionally, but if you're going to comment on the matter at all, dont make it out to be the kid's fault, appologize. But there wasnt even any need to comment on it, IMO. It was unintentional and harmless, but dont be a f***ing jerkoff about it. And i'm surprised you Sox fans are reacting this way.
  15. Whi;s to say that Papelbon does a good job closing. Foulke is a proven, successful closer.
  16. Yea, you are wrong. Testing occured all year last year.
  17. Fred, you're going crazy man. The new policy has been in place since it was agreed to by the Union. They have been testing players all along. And again, I dont know why you didnt get it the first time I said it, but he didt suspend, or plan to suspend drug testing at all last year. He tested the entire year. Otherwise he wouldnt have gotten guys like Matt Lawton, who tested positive in SPETEMBER (Way after you claim that he stopped testing). Just because they dont go public and say "well we tested player x today" doesnt mean their not testing. When somebody tests positive you will know it.
  18. Im hoping to see USA-Cuba. But I cant wait for USA Japan on Tuesday (I think).
  19. He never announced he was suspending testing early last year. Testing lasted all year. How do you think they caught guys like Matt Lawton and stuff.
  20. What the hell are you talking about? A new policy has already been put into place.
  21. I missed it
  22. You said Pokey was brought in to be the second baseman, but was forced to be benched because "he sucked". I agreed that he was brought in to be the starting second baseman, but the reason he wasnt the starting second baseman wasnt because he "sucked", like you stated, but because you guys needed a SS and he was better than anyone else on your team for that. Had Nomar been healthy he WOULD HAVE been the starting second baseman.
  23. He was brought in as the starting second baseman but started the season as the starting shortstop because he's a better shortstop than Bellhorn. I didnt at all restate what you said.
