  1. I dont know where you've been but we did cut our payroll, and yes, that was a goal of ours in the offseason. Nice try though. And thats all that matters, I suppose. Right? Another example of Red Sox Nation's constant obsession with the Yankees.
  2. What Greenwell said.
  3. ****Total Red Sox Wins : 2 ****Total Red Sox Home Runs : 6 ****Total Red Sox Runs Scored : 25' ' = I really wanted to pick 24 runs, but it was already picked. So I will go with 25.
  4. Nah, when its CLEARLY a ball to the batter, why take the chance of swinging and hitting it fair or something. Not worth the chance. Maybe if the pitch is a little closer I agree with you guys, but not in this instance with the tying run on third and with two outs.
  5. They shouldnt I dont think the numbers are a fair representation of his performance last year. He got beat up in a couple starts and relief appearances, but a lot of the time he went out there and did a good job for us. I was very pleased with how he turned out that year.
  6. It was clearly a ball. With a full count, bases loaded, and the tying run on third base in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, I do the same thing when it's clearly a ball. Why swing and take the chance of popping it up or even possibly missing when 99/100 times that pitch ties the game. Matsui did the right thin. The home plate umpire (I dont even remember who it was. Might have to go check on it) f***ed it up for him and for us Yankee fans.
  7. I didnt say he was, I was just using that as an example. But nowhere is it guaranteed that he will translate to a great starter. Despite his good performances so far in his starts, that doesnt mean anything. Jorge DePaula brought a perfect game into the 7th inning of his Major League debut and even won a spot in the 2004 rotation. Look where he's at now. There are plenty of guys out there who were dubbed the next great starting pitcher, but just couldnt do it at the Major League level. Now dont get me wrong, i'm not saying Papelbon cant do it in the bigs as a starter, i'm saying I dont know for CERTAIN, despite his first few starts. You're sadly mistaken. Closers, good ones at least, are NOT a dime a dozen. Some guys who can do a fantastic job in the 7th or 8th inning just cant getthe last 3 outs. A good example is Latroy Hawkins. Superb setup man, but when he was thrown into the closers role in Minny and Chicago, he didnt do so hot. Same with Dotel. Following the Mets, Braden Looper is another one that comes to mind from recent years. The greatest stuff in the world, but the wrong mentality for closing games out.
  8. I was also like 11 or 12 years old at the time.
  9. Oh please, so the fact that ROger has decided to sit out the first few months makes it ok for you guys to go and get him. Now dont get me wrong, I think it's ok, why wouldnt it be. But I mean, I dont see how to you guys, thats ok, but signing a guy in the offseason isnt. You make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Wah Wah Wah, I hate the Yankees. Wah Wah Wah. Grow up
  10. My first and only time at Fenway so far I was sitting in the bleachers for a Yanks/Sox game back in 2001 (actually it was the game where Bryce Florie got hit in the face with a ball off of Ryan Thompson's bat). I honestly didnt think all of us (there were like 8 of us. Cousins, uncles, etc.) would get out of there without getting roughed up a little bit, especially considering that the four guys behind us were PISS DRUNK and were f***ing with us the entire game.
  11. Damon was out of a job as well. We didnt steal him. He was not employed by any particular franchise. Same as Clemens. Thanks for being honest with yourself. Maybe it will rub off on some of your fellow Sox fans here who are of the belief that the Boston Red Sox are a small market team, such as the Royals, or Devil Rays, or Marlins or something. I applaud you.
  12. Jeter home run was about 10 years ago my friend. And yes, for some reason this year we have just had horrible luck when it comes to the ammount of bad calls made against us. However, I am against instant replay in Baseball. I just need the human element present, otherwise it wouldnt be baseball. So while i'm pissed about s***** calls killing us, i'm content with just moving on. Nothing I can do. I was extremely pissed off when I saw that he had called it a strike. Matsui should have been standing on forst base with the game tied. f***ing piece of s***.
  13. I agree that he can, but really, he hasnt proven that he can do it at the Major League level. I mean we can assume all we want, but you never know. Remember Brandon Claussen. He was supposed to be the real deal back when the Yankees had him. And now he's on a regular shuttle between Louisville and Cincy. Some guys just dont pan out as expected. And rather than take that chance with Papelbon, I think it would make more sense to leave him be.
  14. Right, i'm aware of the plan, but I was just interested in everybody's personal opinion on the matter. I mean, Paps has looked so good in this role, it's sort of like "if it aint broke, dont fix it." Unless he struggles tremendously I dont see why he should be shifted back to the rotation. But thats just my opinion.
  15. As am I. But really, no need to appologize.
  16. Thanks
  17. Well obviously as we all know, Papelbon is by nature a starter and the intention is/was to make him a mainstay in the Sox rotation for years to come. However with his success in the bullpen (this year, and last), and the fact that he really hasnt proven himself as a starter at the Major League level, does anybody think that the So xshould leave him in the bullpen throughout the duration of his career? I mean, as we have seen, he can provide you guys with a good, cheap closer who has no problem getting the job done. Would it make more sense to leave him in the pen rather than at a later date shift him to the rotation, and take the risk of him faltering and not doing well, and possibly just losing all confidence and runining his chances of returning to the pen as a solid reliever? I mean, you can trade Foulke and get some prospects, and unload his salary at the same time (there will be plenty of teams interested in adding a proven veteran closer like Keith Foulke) and still be covered at the closer's spot for years to come. Just wanted your thoughts on this.
  18. I am aware that some work was done on Fenway this past offseason. I guess something with one of the clubs or something. The 406 or something, I dont really know. Is that all? I noticed yesterday that Pennant-shaped banners representing the Pennants and World Championships were placed on the green facing of the press box behind home plate, but thats all. Can anyone else further inform me of the changes made to the Park this past year. Thanks
  19. 1999 playoffs. 2000 ALCS. 2001, as you said. 2004. 2005. Among other times. In factm in another Clemens related thread I made a whole list of times that he pitched very good.
  20. No doubt theyll win it all? Maybe they make the World Series and end up playing the Mets. Say Pedro beats Shiclling 2-1. Glavine battles Beckett and wins a 5-3 game. Then say Clemens beats Trachsel (or maybe Bannister will step into the 3-spot if he keeps throwing like he has. Then maybe Wakefield holds them to 1 run through 7 innings and the Mets piund Foulke in the 8th, take the lead and win the game. Then do the same thing the next day. Looks like a Met win to me. All of what I said is very possible. So please, dont guarantee anything in baseball. You'll be eating it later. Are we serious? Sox fans are hilarious Definately have great spirit. First the Keep Manny website, now this. Good luck.
  21. Thats a shame. Stern is one guy who I really like up there in Boston.
  22. Yup, I believe so.
  23. I know. It made me laugh. ...but anyways, I saw the Wells interview today. Wasnt as big as you guys made it out though. You made it seem like he was having a Yankees lovefest or something. All he did was talk about the atmosphere of the Yankees and Yankee Stadium, and "if something good is going to happen, it's going to happen at Yankee Stadium" or something ike that.
  24. By the title of the thread I though I was clicking on a Yankee thread
