Yeah right, it wouldnt take that much.
....as for the whole Clippard issue; What you idiots fail to realize is that our talent is in the LOWER LEVELS. Its fact that the top lower level prospects dont get ranked among the top upper level prospects. Clippard is one of the most well regarded pitching prospects in Single A. As are a lot of our Single A and Double A prospects.
Read my post, Clippard, some (one or two) other lower level prospects, and some $$$. We could even send over a vet and pay most of the salary. I think we would be able to get that done. You people need to realize that there is a lot that goes into trades. How about the fact that Dontrelle has said that he would like to play in New York one day (Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith), the close relationship between people in the Marlins organization and the Yankees organization, and the cash factor. You arent in the Marlins' front office, and until you are I dont really care what you say teams would trade people for. Perhaps the MArlins have these evil people known as scouts. And perhaps they have some of these scouts in Charleston. And lets, just for kicks, say that they see things they like in some of our Charleston pitchers. Pros that they like, and cons that they think they can fix within their own organoization. Maybe the Marlins like Clippard BETTER than Lester. Despite what you guys may think, the Red Sox' view towards Yankee prospects isnt the view of the other 28 teams out there. Maybe the Marlins love what they see in Sean Henn, and think that the low pressure level of South Florida will help him blossom into a great pitcher. Maybe they call Cashman and say
"Hey, how about you send us T.C. (Tyler Clippard), Henn, and maybe $3 or $4 Million and we can send you 'Trelle. He's gonna be hitting arbitration this offseason and we dont think we can pay him, however we know you guys can and we would have no problems exchanging him for two pitchers that we like a lot who are going to make nothing the next 5-6 years. Whaddya say? Joe (Girardi) has talked to Dontrelle about New York and it seems to really appeal to him. He would like to play there, we like your guys, and it works out financially. What do you think?"
For all we know Loria and the other guys down in Miami could be having a lovefest with the likes of Tyler Clippard and Sean Henn. Maybe they just absolutely love Quezada or DeSalvo. Bottom line is WE DONT KNOW. So the comments you guys make are ridiculous. There have been trades that seemed more outragious than the one I proposed, and that happened to work out perfectly for both teams in the long run. s***, for all we know the Marlins could be in love with the number 5 starter down in Lowell, pitching for the Spinners and are interedtes in making a deal for him involving Willis. Maybe, just maybe (and I know this is going to hurt for you guys to see, because I know how you guys are of the belief that the Red Sox, in every aspect of Baseball as a sport, are superior than everybody else) the Marlins HATE Lester. Bottom line is we can speculate, and present our arguements, but we dont make the trades and pull the trigger on the big decisions.
...dont get me wrong, back down here on earth after my post, Tyler Clippard being the centerpiece of a deal for Willis is as likely as the Knicks winning the NBA Finals this year. Impossible. But we dont know who teams like and what they would want. We just dont.
