  1. I agree with a lot of what you said. While I hope this is a big, impact trade, I can see it not turning out that way. As for Henry, I remember reading last year that the Yankees were hoping to convert him into an outfielder. Maybe take CF after Damon or something. George was pretty angry when he was taken over Hansen.
  2. Nah, I doubt they move Cano. Speculation is that the Yankees hope to move Cano to left sometime in the next 2-4 years. Although I don't agree with it, it would make it easier to accomodate Gourriel. But yea, when there were talks of the Yankees trying to get Gourriel out during the WBC I heard they liked his speed and hypothetically, if they had him, would probably try him out in the outfield first, whether it be spring training or in the minors (depending on when he is inked). Or, he could do all three; third, second, and the outfield as a guy who gets like 4-5 starts a week spelling guys like Matsui, Abreu, Cano, Johnny, etc. Sounds good to me for the first year while Abreu is here. We can reevaluate after that. Regardless, I would just love to have him. We can address the position changes after we get him under contract, if that is the case. Like I said, should make for a GREAT bidding war. Nothing like waking up to hot stove rumors and Baseball headlines in the winter with snow on the ground.
  3. Thanks for the info. Like I suggested, he should come to YES. He won't have much of a problem in the sexual harrassment department. Kim Jones, Nancy Newman, Suzyn Waldman; three less than desireable women at YES
  4. Two jobs (Coach and President/GM)
  5. I was pretty angry when that went down ..cant blame the Braves though, they got a much better deal from the Dodgers than they would have from us. I'd take Baez over Proctor anyday. It almost makes me want to change my stance on agreeing with Cashman's decision not to pull the trigger on Proctor for Betemit.
  6. Abreu doesn't need a new home, he already holds residence in New York. Same building as Johnny Damon, in fact. The Milan building in the 50's I believe.
  7. At most it would be B status. Probably not even that.
  8. Yeah, when I saw this I was a little surprised. Not a bad move b the Giants in taking this risk considering they're not too far out of it.
  9. WOW!! This is great news. Should make for a more exciting bidding war than the COntreras one (hopefully with better results as well). There were a lot of whispers of the Yankees trying to get him out during the WBC. I) can't see George standing pat on this one. He's been great with just sitting back this year and letting Cashman take care of business, but I could definately see George going nuts on a deal like this. Should be fun.
  10. Either Matt Smith or Steven White. Can't complain too much. I am a little disappointed about losing Henry, but i'll deal. I am definately pleased about getting Lidle, as I have liked him since his Oakland days, and especially when he was in Toronto. He and Jason Giambi are good friends and were high school teammates, so hopefully that comfort could help to overcome possible difficulties involved in the transition from small-market pitcher to New York pitcher. Perhaps, but maybe those other teams arent willing to take all of the salary of Abreu and Lidle. Well we'll learn more about Sheffield tomorrow, as he is going to see the doctor and could get a better idea as to when he can return to action. He has his cast off. As of late it seems that Matsui should make it back mid-late August with Sheffield coming when the rosters expand in September. wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
  11. I dont know if anybody caught the Columbus Clippers/Durham Bulls game on YES last night, but it was extremely exciting, and it was good to see guys like Terrence Long (although there was that one at bat in the 9th I believe where he took two beautiful pitches to put him in an 0-2 count in which he later struck out), Carlos Pena, and Mitch Jones come up with hits when needed. The 10 inning thriller had be on the edge of my seat (actually I was sitting on my bedroom floor leaning up against my bed) the entire time. I hope for similar results tonight with the parent clubs.
  12. I obviously expect it, but that means that I cant take it as an insult and respond? That means I have to completely let it roll of my shoulders? I dont think so. I dont care where I am, i'll stand up for something that I believe in; and if the Yankees are getting bashed i'll stand up for them.
  13. Well with the deadline just days away I figure i'll just throw out some of what i've been hearing. Others do the same, as well. Obviously, with the unwillingness to part with top prospects this season (which I appreciate), Cashman probably wont be making any big deals. There was obviously all the talk about Hughes for Abreu that the Phillies proposed that was quickly turned down by Cashman. In one of the papers this morning I read that the Phillies look like they're willing to settle for lesser prospects provided the Yankees take Leiber as well. I actually like the sound of this. Now let it be stated that I havent been huge on the Abreu talk, but getting a player with his offensive abilities in addition to a starter, who despite not having a very good year this season, has proved his ability to pitch well in big games, and in big games in New York, for less than top prospects definately catches my interest. A few weeks back there was a lot of talk about the Yankees being close to getting Roberto Hernandez; and for months, dating back to the offseason there have been whispers regarding the Yankees' interest in Craig Wilson. Dave Littlefield was asking for ridiculous options in return for either one or both of those players, but is now appearant that the Pirates are interested in Steven White. While I am not by any stretch of the imagination in favor of getting Roberto Hernandez due to his age and ineffectiveness the last few seasons (with the exception of his very good year with the Mets last season) I wouldnt mind taking the gamble if we were to get Craig Wilson as well. Hernandez, who is from New York, did very well here last year which is definately worth noting; and as I said many times in the offseason when discussing my desire to get Craig Wilson, Wilson provides us with a player with a pretty good bat (didnt have the best of years last year which is why everybody was down on him) and defensive versatility (not to be confused with defensive effectiveness) as he is capable of playing the outfield, first base, and if needed he can catch (if you remember from the offseason, I stated many times how important I feel it is to have a third player on the roster with catching experience). He could be thrown into that platoon with Bernie, Guiel, and Crosby for now, and then be an effective bench player when Matsui comes back around the 20th of August. Now for the most interesting trade possibility I have heard regarding the Yankees, supposedly the Braves were willing to part with Wilson Betemit for Scott Proctor, as they are desperate for relief help. Now, under normal circumstances I would make this deal before the drop of a hat, but considering that Proctor has really been our rock in the bullpen this year (despite his occasional faltering) I am reluctant to back such a deal. If the Yankees dont win it all this year, Cashman might regret not making this deal a few years down the road, but for now I have to respect and support his decision. Now as for Betemiot, since seeing him in his first week in the Majors back in '04 with the Braves here against the Mets, i've really liked him and always sort of wanted him on the Yankees (which at the time, and up until now seemed like more of a fantasy wish). If the Braves are so down on their relievers, which they have a few good, young ones who have potential; maybe they would be willing to ship us one of their relievers in addition to Betemit for Proctor and maybe a less-regarded prospect. Maybe they'd be willing to send us a Villarreal (doubtful), or more realistically (and less appealing) maybe Tyler Yates; somebody who throws pretty hard, but struggled out of the rotation with the Mets. If they were to be willing to give us Tyler Yates and Wilson Betemit for Scott Proctor I would do it in half a heartbeat. Yes, we would be losing Proctor, but we would be getting a good young infielder and a pitcher who throws hard and has potential. I would be comfortable with this because I know that if Yates doesn't succeed (which nobody will be counting on him to do) we have Dotel (hopefully_ coming back soon. We have Beam, who could be pretty good, Matt Smith, Colter Bean, etc. And the possibility also exists that we go out and get a reliever, whether it be Roberto Hernandez or somebody else. Now if we were to get BEtemit, for now he would play everyday at second until Cano comes back; but after Cano comes back and in future years I see him being a role/platoon player, and a very good one at that. He is 24 (either 24 or 26 lol, escapes me at the moment) and has a very impressive bat. He has played second, short, and third for the Braves, but according to what i've heard, the Yankees also believe he could play first, as well as the outfield. I can see him in the future being a guy who gets maybe 3 or 4 starts a week, all in various positions spelling guys like Rodriguez, Cano, Giambi, Cabrera, etc.; sort of like a Mark DeRosa or Chone Figgins like. Or even comparable to the playing time Shane SPencer and Ricky Ledee got. I think that with the opportunity to get Betemit, we should do everything logically possible to do it without possibly hurting other aspects of our team. As it stands right now, I could see the Yankees making a small, impact deal; or I can see them standing pat and doing nothing. Either way I think we'll be alright. Well if you read it all, thanks. As you can probably tell I was somewhat bored and had some things on my mind.
  14. I've never seen you give him credit. Just always making excuses for his success. Granted, I could be wrong as I dont monitor every single one of your posts, but based on what I have see you have something against this kid or something.
  15. I never said I was completely innocent. But I dont take it to the level that he does. And like I said before, there is a difference between an obsession and an interest. I am obviously interested in the Sox and their fans, but I dont take it to the outrageous level that he does. And as for the name, it is just that. I dont go into the Sox game threads and do play-by-play taunting and start ridiculous threads bashing the Sox. Whenever I start a Sox related thread it is a genuine discussion. That can't be denied. I take it to the Yankees vs Red Sox level usually only indefense of something that was said. 90% of the time the stuff that you accuse me of doing is provoked in some manner. Not as laughable as yours. And as for you not being a Sox fan, that was obviously an exaggeration. I know you're a Sox fan. But sometimes I wonder what's more important to you, the Sox winning or the Yankees losing.
  16. I dont care. I'll still take him

  18. I hope Harold knows that there is a spot for him at YES ..but seriously, this is terrible. Harold Reynolds is the man and has always done a fantastic job, in my opinion. Baseball Tonight (as well as any other Baseball coverage by ESPN) won't be the same now. I wonder who managers the American League team in the Legends/Celebrity Softball Game next year
  19. I can't see him doing that. Though I can see him crying. What are you, stupid? A-Rod is defintely not the worst fieldiong third baseman in baseball. Granted, he has obviously struggled (understatement) this year, but in 2004 and 2005, his first two years as a third baseman, he would have won two gold gloves had it not been for Eric Chavez. As for him not being able to move back to shortstop, what the f*** are you talking about? What would give you the sense that he wouldnt be able to move back to shortstop? Give him a spring training to get settled in again and he'll be fine.
  20. No, it was Nomar to your Sox, A-Rod and Magglio to their Sox, and Manny to the Rangers. As a Yankee fan I wouldnt do this. A-Rod, despite his troubles here in New York is the BEST ALL AROUND PLAYER IN BASEBALL. Because of his troubles off the field particularily, and his occasional troubles on the field, that fact seems to be overlooked quite a bit. This guy will end his career as the Home Run champion and as arguably the best player in the history of Baseball. He is just determined to win right now and that's what he has on the frontburner right now. And with that big pot on the front burner you're bound to get burned a little bit from time to time. But nevertheless, he is the most talneted player in baseball right now.
  21. Very well said, and I agree with you 100%
  22. Umm...I can, and I am. The Yankees always come first to me, but there is nothing wrong with rooting for the Mets too considering they represent my hometown. I'm too proud of where I come from to not support a team that represents New York. ..isn't this like the second time we're having this discussion? Totally agree. Meche, who has been pretty decent/good in Seattle will definately make the Mets a beter team now, as moving over to the NL should definately help him out a little. I'm just a bit disappointed to be losing Heilman, because like you said, this probably will be a steal for the M's when all is said and done.
  23. Not in the arguement that I was trying to make. Obviously it's a huge plus for you guys, but what I was trying to say is that if the Sox pitching staff was in better shape than the Yankees' than he wouldn't even be here. It just so happens he's worked out for you guys, minimizing the problem somewhat.
  24. Wow, that's nuts. Heilman was almost untouchable during the winter after his good, breakout year last year. I think having a shot in the rotation in Seattle will be good for him. As for Meche, I'm conflicted regarding this one. While we add a marginally good starter to the rotation, we are losing one of our more solid relievers; or at least potentially one of our more solid relievers. Hasn't really had a good year. Waiting to hear confirmation.
  25. That he isnt a Red Sox fan, but rather a Yankee hater. That's the point I was trying to make. That and that he is completely incapable of throwing a decent arguement at me using anything but ridiculous insults and stating something that is already well known, that I visit a Sox forum.
