  1. You really can't stop running here. Against someone like Burnett you have to force the issue. He is slow to home. It's weird, but I'm much more upset by the performance of the offense than the pitching. I realize they have lost a great deal of starters to injury, and they will be back soon. The offense, on the other hand, has been an issue in my opinion. Some of the guys just aren't swinging the bat real well, and I don't think A-Rod is getting enough protection.
  2. Well this game is not a lost cause, but the chances of the bullpen holding them here not likely. I think it's funny that a lot of Yankee fans, including ones on this board, were talking about how much of an advantage the Yankees bullpen was for them going into the Red Sox series, and that the Red Sox bullpen was relatively weak. It's not that the Yankees bullpen isn't good, but they're very tired and they simply do not throw enough strikes. On top of that, I'm not sure if I heard correctly while watching the Sox game last night, but did they say that the Red Sox took over the lead in bullpen ERA. I was very impressed with the way they're guys pitched this weekend.
  3. The number one problem with starting Phil Hughes tonight.
  4. It is stupid to carry Cairo on this roster. If you're Brian Cashman you have to say to yourself, what is the infielder on this team that misses the most games? The answer to that is Derek Jeter, he always seems to have nagging injuries and he misses games here and there. So when you're looking for someone to play shortstop why are you getting a guy with a second basemens arm? It's not like he's even decent at the plate. Just as an example, that play would not have even been close at first base if Cairo did not have to round that ball to set himself up for a stronger throw. EDIT: I realize I'm being picky by having a problem with the Yankees choice of a backup infielder, but it was just on my mind.
  5. You have got to get someone up in the bullpen.
  6. Wow, that looked like a bad call, but it just proves that Cairo is a very poor shortstop. You cannot round the ball in that situation.
  7. By the way, another concerning point in terms of the offense at this point in the season is that they're doing a good job of getting ahead in the count but the hitters don't really seem to be taking advantage of that. The offense's runs per game has been good, but most of the time it seems like A-Rod is working his tail off and everyone else is lagging far behind. Obviously the major problem has been pitching, but I'm not thrilled with the performance of some of the hitters, mainly Abreu and Giambi. Also, in terms of thinking on the field, I tend to think that the biggest culprit is Abreu. His body language reminds me of Manny at times, it's just too bad he doesn't swing the bat like Manny.
  8. I would agree, sometimes it seems like they're not really thinking too much out there.
  9. Give me a break. He is so slow, they need baserunners, someone needs to tell him to stop. EDIT: Really nice tag, I like the effort by Giambi but they need to get guys on base. However, I think they're starting to get better reads on Burnett's stuff. Three walks and A-Rod nearly popped one out of there. Matsui also looks good so far in his one + game.
  10. He thought he had it. Too bad, because they really need a spark the way Burnett is throwing. EDIT: Giambi really should have hit that. Abreu's and Giambi's starts have not thrilled me.
  11. I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't see him in the fifth, but we probably will. However, you're right, there is no chance he goes past that.
  12. OK, huge batter right here. The way Burnett is throwing every single run is so important. Too bad it's a righty. Nice, now the heart of the order. LETS GET SOME RUNS!!!!
  13. How many pitches has he thrown? Remember, he's been on that strict PC in the minors. He's really not ready to throw in a big league game in my opinion, especially considering how badly the Yankees need length. There is no way that Hughes is going deep in the game.
  14. Don't you usually put your best hitter or second best hitter in the three hole? What has concerned me early this season about Bobby is that he seems to be having a lot of s***** AB's when the pressure should be on the pitcher considering who is on deck. He's going to see strikes. I think Cano would be more equipped to take advantage of those strikes.
  15. I'll go with Yount because I'd expect him to be hitting leadoff rather than Molitor.
  16. It's only a matter of time before this lineup goes through a makeover, if Joe wants to maximize production. I just don't like Bobby hitting third simply because he really doesn't hit the ball out of the park. Maybe they should considering switching Giambi and Abreu. Or moving Cano to third. I guess the problem with that is that he wouldn't really let A-Rod see a lot of pitches, but outside of A-Rod I think Cano is the best pure hitter on the team. Batting him eighth doesn't thrill me.
  17. Should see a FB here... EDIT: Boy was that weird. 3-1 breaking ball to Minky?
  18. Good point. I'm just saying that even though he got through the top of the order in the third, he wasn't doing it in spectacular fashion, not that I expect that in his first big league start.
  19. Burnett looks like he really has it tonight. They're going to have to wait him out like they did against Harden and score some late runs. Hughes and the bullpen are also going to have to be able to keep them in the game.
  20. Good results, but as ORS mentioned he could have easily given up two homers that inning to Rios and Wells. He doesn't appear to have great command of his fastball against right handed hitters. He seems much more comfortable throwing it to lefty.
  21. Got very lucky right there. Wells usually puts those in the left field seat. EDIT: Can't fall behind people like Wells. If Hughes isn't careful right here it'll be 4-0 in a heartbeat. Keep it under the hands Phil.
