  1. By the way, I realize the Yankees can't be blaming the umpires, especially with how poor they're playing, but the 0-2 pitch to Aybar was pitching much a perfect pitch. It appeared that it caught the corner, and the umpire had been calling that a strike all game. Obviously, that's not excuse for walking him after being ahead 0-2, but it would have given the Yankees a second out in the inning, and a good chance to get out of it.
  2. He took Mussina out because Mussina has shown over the past couple of years that he really runs out of gas after throwing 90-100 pitches. Proctor has been solid all year for the Yankees, and in a game they needed it wasn't a bad move. Moose looked really bad in the at bat against Kotchman and Torre didn't want to take the chance that he had run out of gas. On another note, I'm so tired of Matsui. He seems to get a pass because he has come up with some big hits as a Yankee, but I think he might just be pasted his prime. He is awful defensively, possibly one of the worst left-fielders in all of baseball. He is hiting less home runs than in the past. But the worst thing is that he has stopped hitting the ball to the opposite field. It seems like he rolls an outside pitch to the right side of the infield at least twice a game.
  3. Well, Mussina has looked very good so far through three innings today, but he's still managed to throw 52 pitches. He is probably only good for six innings at the most today. The Yanks are up 1-0, aided by a bad call on an Abreu stolen base in the second.
  4. He's not the best player on his own team.
  5. For those of you not watching the game, the Yankees just announced that if his bullpen goes well Clemens will pitch friday for the Tampa Yankees against Fort Myers. I think I remember ESPN picking up his minor league starts last year, we'll see if the same goes for this year.
  6. Guess I was wrong about Minky. The M's have a good bullpen and if the Yankees want to have a chance here they have to keep the M's off the board. Not sure if it's still going to be Pettitte. 8-9-1 coming up for the M's. EDIT: It's still Pettitte.
  7. I was watching on MLB.tv. Pretty remarkable stuff. Ok Yanks have a base runner. One out in the 7th and here comes Posada. EDIT: Back to back singles. Very quick hook, Ramirez out after only 82 pitches. Phelps is due up next. They didn't say who was coming in, Sherrill (lefty) or Reitsma (righty), but if it's Sherrill I would pinch hit Minky. He's been swinging the bat well lately, but if it's Sherrill I'd obviously stick with Phelps. EDIT: It's Reitsma and it's Minky.
  8. 2-1 end of six. And Andy gets his first pick off this year. EDIT: M's on top.
  9. Damn, A-Rod didn't even seem to hit that ball too hard and it still took Ichiro to the wall. He's just missed two HR's in as many nights. Hopefully that means he's going to start to hit them again because no one else is.
  10. Wow, that's some win, speed puts so much pressure on the defense.
  11. I think I remember that, middle game against the Braves, right?
  12. If Giambi is not hitting the ball with power, he is really useless because he refuses/can't hit the ball to the opposite field.
  13. Nice. Andy was working from behind the whole inning but he managed to get out of it.
  14. Horacio's looking pretty good so far, and now the M's are starting to tee off on Pettitte. First and second, no one out. EDIT: The righties are really hitting the down and in slider.
  15. Exactly.
  16. You have to realize that he is not as poor as your average single A pitcher. Normally the guy would have been sent down to AAA, but they probably want him to work with Yankee officials down in Tampa. So the only reason it's A rather than AAA is because that's where the organizational brain trust is located.
  17. To be fair, Burnett is great tonight. If he could just stay healthy he'd be talked about among the best in baseball.
  18. Sterling and Waldman keep talking about how Hughes how earned another start. I understand he wasn't awful today, but he needs to be stretched out. A major league ballclub, let alone a major league ballclub with a bullpen that is on pace to set the all time record for innings pitched is not the place stretch him out. You have to think about the present and the future. If they give Hughes more starts with the Yankees, they're doing neither in my opinion.
  19. I can see over the course of the season, but nothing in this game has upset me. If you're referring to Minky, it's not like he's cost the Yankees anything in this game. Abreu and Posada were the guys that came up with big oppurtunites and couldn't make solid contact. EDIT: On top of that, it's not like he's making all the decisions. To be perfectly honest I have a bigger problem with Guidry than I do with Torre.
