  1. Not once did I say he was a good pitcher. The only thing I said was that there are some good things to work with. By the way, SOTK's, the 0-2 pitch to Morneau was a good example of what we were saying. High slider, a strike, but a poor pitch.
  2. Igawa has some pretty good stuff, and those of you who are watching the game have probably noticed that. The main problem, in my opinion, is that he lives up in the zone. On top of that, he seems to get beat on his off-speed stuff more than he should, and that bothers me. Unfortunately for the Yankees, the problem with this game is that the Twins bullpen is so much better than the Yankees, and the game will likely be decided by the bullpens.
  3. My fault. Only the first line was a response to that point. The rest of my post was a general statement, directed toward all Yankee fans here, especially Jackson. Torre is not the reason this team is so poor this year. He has made a number of questionable decisions this year, mainly about the bullpen, but give it a rest. More than half the players on this team are performing poorly. In most of those cases it is not Torre's fault.
  4. Oh, I wouldn't say that lol. All they need is for A-Rod to hit in July like he hit in May and all of a sudden it could get a lot worse.
  5. I hate to repeat myself, but the way to start turning this around is to trade away Matsui and Cano. Matsui, in my opinion, is either past his prime or still recovering from the wrist injury. Either way, his trade value for the last year and a half of his contract would be better then having him for the year and a half. On top of everything, he is an awful outfielder. Cano also really bothers me. He was getting away with his free swinging ways, the first two years, but now pitchers have adjusted to him, and he has failed to readjust. His OBP really hurts this team, and he has not developed the power that I thought he would. EDIT: Jackson, I really don't think the pitching is the problem. The offense is really struggling, no matter how many total runs they've scored this year. The ineffectiveness of many of the Yankees hitters, is not due at all to Joe Torre.
  6. Somebody has to tell Igawa to stick with the fastball - changeup combination at least 85% of the time. EDIT: The fastball has really been the bright spot for Igawa today. That's the pitch he has the most control over.
  7. Matsui and Cano might be able to get you something really good on the open market...in all seriousness, Cano is exactly what the Yankees used to avoid, guys that swing at everything. And Matsui, for whatever reason (could be his wrist), has taken a big step back this year. I playoff contender would probably jump at the chance to get him for a year and a half.
  8. Just like the start against San Francisco Igawa shows some positive signs, but he doesn't seem to be able to put together a good start in terms of how many runs he gives up. However, Kei Igawa is not the story of this game through the four and a half innings. The Yankees offense has, in my opinion, been the number one problem throughout the entire season. No matter how many runs they've scored total, they are so inconsistent.
  9. Or it could have had something to do with the fact that he was clearly battling arm problems in the second half of the season. Take a look at his first half, then tell me whether or not he can succeed in New York.
  10. Overall, Proctor pitched really well today. He was hurt by an infield single, and a bloop. Considering he didn't want to use Mo in a tie game on the road, it's not as bad a decision as some are making it out to be. However, with that being said, I think you guys are missing Torre's biggest mistake. With Jeter out of the game, why is Cairo playing shortstop and A-Rod playing third? A-Rod, who has a much better arm, probably throws out Vizquel. I say this because Cairo made an extremely weak throw, and Vizquel didn't beat it by that much. For what it's worth, I like where Girardi was today, I just don't like which view point he was watching the game from.
  11. Although that is a particularly high WHIP, and higher than Wang's usually is, he is always going to give up a great deal of base runners (although with the rate he has begun to strike out batters lately, that number will go down). To make up for the amount of runners he lets get on base, he gets a lot of double plays.
  12. Make that twice this year. However, redsoxrules is right, W/L is not the best way to measure a pitcher's success. But, you have to keep in mind, in those starts he's done enough to keep them in the game and let the offense take over. On top of that, what he does against the rest of baseball is more important than what he does against one team.
  13. Numbers that directly indicate the success of a pitcher do not lie.
  14. Exactly. J.D. Drew's career OPS speaks for itself. At some point it might be fair to determine that he isn't fit to hit up in the lineup, but this is not the time.
  15. Yeah, good point. I think Schilling's near no-hitter pretty much proved your last point. Even when he's at his best, he's still not going to strike a lot of people out.
  16. I completely agree.
  17. I'm not exactly surprised that he plans on taking a look at his options.
  18. Detroit lost 6-5. Oakland and Houston are tied 5-5 in the sixth. Seattle is leading Chicago 4-3 in the eighth. EDIT: Two RBI hit for Izturis and the Cubs take a 6-5 lead. EDIT: Cubbies win!
  19. Cordero got out of it!
