  1. Ugh, right down the middle...Joe really has to cut his losses with Igawa. Igawa has given up all his hits on two strike counts. It seems like the inability to put guys away is always a problem with this staff. Jackson, do you know if Torre said anything about Mo's availability for today?
  2. Well, that's certainly a positive sign. Unfortunately it looks like we'll be seeing DeSalvo on Saturday instead of him.
  3. Ugh, that was pretty unlucky. Melky hits it to the only spot on the left side of the infield where it wouldn't be a hit.
  4. Don't forget how well the Blue Jays hit lefties. All I'm saying is that the way he's been pitching, coupled with the fact that the Jays kill lefties, does not give me all that much confidence for tomorrow.
  5. Well, I've heard the name, but I'm actually not too famaliar with him. I'm not really sure where to look, so do you have some kind of scouting report and/or statistics from this year?
  6. Say what you want, as of right now, they have no better, major league ready, replacement.
  7. Like I said before, he shouldn't be starting today.
  8. You're not going to get Troy Glaus out if you refuse to try and throw the ball under his hands to at least set up the outside pitch. Glaus is not one of those guys who tries to pull everything. There are times when it becomes extremely annoying when some Yankee pitchers try to throw everything on the outside corner. EDIT: However, in my opinion the first mistake was to start Igawa today (and not because he shouldn't be starting at all, although that's up for debate). Toronto kills left-handed pitching, and Igawa, who's not very good against anyone, is not helped by that fact. I would have started Igawa yesterday, and Mussina today. With the ASB the Yankees had a chance to rearrange there rotation, yet they set it up where the Blue Jays get to face both of the Yankees lefties. That, to me, makes no sense.
  9. Not the Mariners.
  10. SOTK, I think another reason he might opt out is because he's looking for another long term deal. If he did opt out he would get that long term contract and would have a bunch of teams bidding for his services. In my opinion, it is quite possible that he returns to the Yankees.
  11. OK, well, I'm not a Red Sox fan, so I obviously don't take that stuff the same way you do, but they might have an argument about Saito. Who you would rather have over the long run is a different story, however that's not what the article was about. This thread, because it was about the article, was discussing who has been the best closer this year, and this year only. If you make it an argument between Papelbon and Saito, it's Saito.
  12. Just to throw a thought out there, if they were to not retain A-Rod for next year, they would certainly save a great deal of money. Not next year, but in the next few years after that Santana, Sabathia, and Bedard are all on track to become free agents. If the 2010 Yankees, for instance, have a rotation that includes two of those three (I realize that's asking a lot), Wang, Hughes, and Chamberlain, then it would almost be worth it to let A-Rod go. Obviously there is not guarantee that any of those guys sign with the Yankees, or that they even become free agents, but it's an interesting possibility.
  13. Well, not a lot of Yankee chatter here tonight. They played a pretty good game all around. Pettitte did not pitch exceptionally well, but he did enough to keep them in the games. They swung the bats well tonight, and the bullpen was great tonight. Although it's against the Devil Rays, the Yankees have really struggled on the road this year, so it's nice to see them get the first game of the series.
  14. Pettitte (4-6, 4.25) vs. Shields (7-4, 3.82) Yankees Lineup: Damon DH Cabrera CF Jeter SS Rodriguez 3B Matsui LF Posada C Abreu RF Cano 2B Phillips 1B Devil Rays Lineup: Iwamura 3B Crawford LF Harris SS Pena 1B Young CF Wigginton DH Gome RF Navarro C Wilson 2B Pettitte has been nothing short of bad in three of his last four starts (@COL, OAK, LAA). He really needs to get back on track tonight against a team that's struggling.
  15. It is not the entire reason why he was wrong about the bullpen, but all of us thought Papelbon was going to be in the starting rotation.
  16. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, and I know they only showed it from a distance, but did the fan in the front row stick his glove over the wall to catch that?
  17. Doesn't exactly look too heavy...I'm a bit surprised. He seems a bit wild, but that was a great fastball on the strike'em out throw'em out double play. And now he gets saved by the first basemen on a hanging breaking ball.
  18. For the first time all year Cano, Matsui, and Abreu are all hitting at the same time. The all star break is certainly not coming at a good time for the offense, but it is for the pitching. Wang will get some more time for the finger/nail to heal properly, and hopefully it will give Pettitte time to work out whatever is wrong with him. It also allows them to bump Igawa all the way to the back of the rotation.
  19. Tough break right there for the Yanks, Posada really crushed that ball, and now they have to fact the heart of the Twins order.
  20. Yeah, I agree with you there. Reyes is pitching so well for the Twins right now. Before long they're going to be into the Neshek, Rincon, and Nathan part of the game, so the Reyes is doing a fantastic job bridging the gap. The Twins have Mauer, Cuddyer, and Morneau coming up next inning...and they're probably going to be facing Vizcaino.
  21. OK, well, he still didn't look great, but Igawa gets a 1-2-3 inning against the middle of the order.
