  1. Unless the Twins have a comeback in them the Yanks wildcard lead will be down to 2.5. EDIT: Matt Lecroy, Luis Rodriguez, and Nick Punto due up in the ninth against Todd Jones down 4-3. Honestly, if I could have any combination of three hitters in an AL lineup, this might be my last choice. EDIT 2: Jason Tyner pinch hit for Matt Lecroy and flew out. What the f*** is Gardenhire thinking?
  2. Nice win today for the Sox. It was especially impressive to see them bounce back after what happened last night, but that's why Beckett is the ace. Overall, the last two nights have been very disapointing for the Yanks, in my opinion, because there two best starters were so poor against a playoff-caliber team.
  3. That game didn't mean much overall for the Yanks? If they had lost they would be only 2.5 games ahead of the Tigers. It meant a great deal.
  4. I know that you could say the Sox just did the same thing and it didn't work out, but I go to Rivera for six outs, especially considering the Red Sox have the heart of their order coming up.
  5. For what it's worth, I still think Papelbon gets this save, but they're going to make him get six outs. This might limit his availability/effective for the rest of the season. Not that it matters for you guys (because if you win this game you basically seal the division), but it matters for the Yankees, to which every game is so important.
  6. The bigger issue post was in response to the post that Jacko made about the division. The perception at this site (from most of the Yankee fans), is that the wild card is a lock. I've been saying the entire week that it's not over, and, unfortunately, the Tigers are beginning to prove my point.
  7. By the way, congrats to the Red Sox fans. Your team had a better season then the Yanks (much more consistent), and Sox deserve the division.
  8. There are bigger issues to worry about at this point.
  9. I'm just hoping the fact that Dice K has struggled against the Yankees this year, and the fact that he has struggled lately, will mean bad news for him.
  10. The last sentence is exactly what I do not want to happen.
  11. No matter what you do this weekend you still have Pettitte, Wang, and Clemens pitching. After this weekend you can see where you are and then decide whether you want to go with a five or six man rotation. Obviously if the race tightens, you want Pettitte and Wang going every five days. By the way, I think you are misunderstanding what Jacko is saying. He's saying, in my opinion, that the Yanks should do everything they can to win the division. He's not saying anything about simply getting there. In my opinion, preparing yourself for the playoffs is much more important than busting your ass for seeding. I'm not saying the wild card race is over by any means, but if it begins to look more comfortable, I think a six man rotation would better prepare the Yanks for the playoffs, no matter how close you are to the Red Sox.
  12. I actually agree with you. Jeter did nothing to help the A-Rod situation last year, and, as a captain, he should have at least said something.
  13. I was thinking about the Yankees maybe going to a six man rotation. It would probably help Mussina and Clemens, however it will hurt Wang. However, you obviously still can't count on Mussina and Clemens on a start to start basis at this point.
  14. I guess all the rest that the Yankees gave Mussina really helped him tonight. His velocity was consistently 90-92, which is a big upgrade over what he had been doing. However, the thing that really helped him tonight was that he was much more aggressive, and he wasn't falling in love with his offspeed stuff. Now it's 4-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. It should be 5-1, but the second base umpire just made a terrible call on a ball that Vernon Wells clearly trapped.
  15. Moose cannot let what he thinks is a missed call on the 3-2 pitch to Stairs effect the rest of the inning.
  16. I don't want to try and look like I'm being a homer here, but I'm just curious why people suspect A-Rod over anyone else. I may be wrong, but I think this sentiment only comes from the fact that he's better than everyone else. EDIT: I'm not saying he didn't, I just don't think that he should be suspected over anyone else.
