  1. By the way, I think the whole thing about whether to go all out for the division or not comes down to this (although after tonight it's over anyway). The Yankees could go all out, win most of their games this week, and still not win the division. Where does that leave them? Play it safe. Accept the wild card. Better prepare your players for the playoffs.
  2. Well, Joe clearly did not give his team the best chance to win tonight, and in some way I don't blame him. The only thing I do differently tonight is that I let either Igawa, Veras, or Villone pitch the seventh. It would have been nice to get the clincher out of the way, but so be it.
  3. No worries.
  4. Right, honestly, Jacko, you were calling for him to be fired after the slow start. You said this team was done. I don't think you should really be criticizing him anymore (at least for this year).
  5. Oh boy, that was a strike.
  6. 3,000 hits is really an incredible feat. I understand that you have high hopes for Ellsbury, and I expect him to be a very good player as well, but to basically assume that he's going to achieve that kind of milestone is jumping the gun a bit. Mind you, I'm not saying he won't, I'm just saying that it's not something that you'd be smart to assume.
  7. Believe me, if they clinch tonight (or whenever they clinch for that matter), they're going to start resting players. Joe Torre already said A-Rod, Jeter, and Cano will get rest. The division is yours.
  8. Wow, Reyes has been in the middle of the plate to the two best hitters on the team and he's got them both out.
  9. That was weird. Looks like pitching out of the windup is really helping (six up six down when pitching out of it in the last two days). It seems like he's trading some velocity for location as well.
  10. Not only was he on the post season roster...he was considered the go to guy outside of Rivera.
  11. Wow. Ultimate white flag considering this is back to back days for Kyle.
  12. Walks will do that to you.
  13. Oh, well, as I said in another thread Joe has basically given up on the division. On top of that, I think he proved tonight that he is not going to go all out with his relievers to win games at this point.
  14. Alright, a chance for Jeter...
  15. Haha, I realize that, but I wasn't talking about using Igawa as a starter. He might be valuable simply to have out there so the other manager has to be at least aware of the fact that there are lefties in the pen. But my only real point was that I would rather see him than Ramirez or Bruney.
  16. Torre has all but said that the division is worth it. After they clinch, A-Rod, Jeter, and Cano will all get time off. On top of that, seeing how Joe managed the game tonight, it's pretty clear that he's not waiting till after they clinch to mail it in.
  17. At least the we can forget about seeing Edwar Ramirez or Brian Bruney on the postseason roster. Considering there really wouldn't be any situation where you would want them in the game, their seasons will likely end Sunday. To be honest, Igawa would be more valuable simply because the Yankees only have one lefty who will be on the roster (Villone), and he wouldn't be considered a specialist. Also, Ross Ohlendorf and Jose Veras will get some serious consideration. Once the Yankees clinch the wild card I'll start a thread to discuss the postseason roster.
  18. a700, if you think Torre is making a serious push at the division then you should tune into this game. Also, he said once they clinch he is going to give A-Rod, Jeter, and Cano time off. He's not as dumb as you think.
  19. I've said it before, and I'll say it again...there was a reason why Edwar was in the minors. Now no one is even chasing his changeup. EDIT: He's awful. Absolutely awful.
  20. Apparently Clemens has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season, but he's expected to pitch in the postseason.
