  1. Kuroda also pitching poorly, though.
  2. Bonderman with very little tonight, as expected. Yanks just can't take advantage thus far.
  3. Except there's clearly a reason as to why they went to such great lengths to secure Bosch's cooperation. I think it's fair to say that he's an integral part of their case.
  4. Baseball is a funny sport lol. CC gives up four runs today, Kazmir gave up four runs yesterday, and Phelps gave up zero runs yesterday. Quite remarkable, considering how all three pitched. Flukey results in small samplings, I guess. Anyway, this was easily CC's best start of the year. Two good ones in a row is encouraging, for sure. Also, considering that Rivera and Robertson have both pitched the last two days, I wonder if CC goes back out for the 9th.
  5. Vernon Wells has turned back into a pumpkin, both offensively and defensively. Unfortunately they're kind of short on alternatives.
  6. I think Major League Baseball would be wise to take a moment, step back, and reassess this situation before proceeding. It's humorous to me that they clearly believe this specific crusade is improving their image.
  7. Jacko, unfortunately those Sox fans and their pesky statistics had a point.
  8. Well there was a point when it looked like he was pitching well. Becoming harder and harder to justify that claim though. Oh well.
  9. Of course that hasn't manifested itself on the scoreboard, but luck can work against you too.
  10. CC is much better today than he was in his previous two starts. Velocity still not there, and it might never be, but he's locating all three pitches nicely.
  11. Haha well you don't have to worry about that. I spend little time in the Sox GTs as it is.
  12. That's all fair, none of it strikes me as disagreeable.
  13. Yeah lol, all joking aside A-Rod's postseason struggles are a bit overblown. He has had some great series, some good series, some mediocre series, some subpar series, and some bad series. By his standards, a bit disappointing, but on the whole not really that terrible.
  14. Maybe, but that sort of anecdotal evidence isn't the best tool for evaluation. I'll take a player who will put up superior numbers over a player that will put up inferior numbers but has a few more big hits late in games.
  15. Yeah, and that's absolutely fair. But I also think the pitchers have performed better than they've deserved, which is the point that SR was making. All of that is reasonable, and it needs to be pointed out in the context of this discussion. I will say, though, that Overbay hasn't exactly been that great. In his case, the narrative stretches past reality. .326 wOBA and 100 wRC+ coming into today is mediocre on its own, and pretty bad when you consider that he's a first baseman.
  16. Jacko, I think we have to acknowledge that the Yankees are a bit fortunate to be where they are at this point in the season. The offense is pretty bad and the advanced stats suggest the starting pitching has benefitted from good luck. In all likelihood this version of the Yankees, if they played an entire season, would not make the playoffs. That point, which I think is the crux of the argument that some others are making, is a fair one. On the other hand, I think it's also important to acknowledge that this team has the potential to be very good, as the currently injured players return to good health. There are obviously question marks surrounding some of them, if not all of them, but if enough of them perform up to reasonable expectations (which, in my opinion, there is a decent chance of that happening) this probably is a playoff team.
  17. Also, it's important to realize how much of Nuno's success is predicated on luck. The answer is most of it.
  18. Overbay's 2013 numbers are worse than Tex's numbers in any season. If Tex gives them what he did last year, which is not a guarantee but hardly unrealistic, he'll be a significant upgrade over Overbay.
  19. I would be shocked if Wells lost any significant amount of playing time. He's their 3rd place hitter and his OPS vs RHPs is a very respectable .830. On top of that he has been solid in the outfield. I think, at this point, he has earned the right to play his way out of a spot, rather than just lose it to Granderson. Ichiro, on the other hand, isn't very good, and should be relegated to a bench role. No platoons, a starting outfield of Wells-Gardner-Granderson (from left to right), and Ichiro as the 4th OFer/defensive replacement. That puts your best team on the field. Which brings us back to the fact that giving Ichiro that contract this offseason, based on a one month mini-resurgence, was not a very good move. EDIT: And before my point is misconstrued, I'm not saying Wells is a sure bet to keep up this production all year. What I am saying is that, for the time being, he should be an everyday player because of his current level of production.
  20. I'm not really trying to get into a discussion about Jacko as a poster. My only point was that I think SFF badly misinterpreted his point.
  21. He's admitting they'll see a regression in one run games and level of performance of lesser players, while pointing out that this regression should be mitigated by better players returning. That's at least how I read it, and I don't see how that's disagreeable.
  22. I mean, to be fair, he didn't say that.
  23. Yeah, but you have watched enough baseball to know that the old cliche about pitching is only a half truth. You need to hit too if you want to win, consistently, month after month. Also, they're 12th in the league in ERA, so while their pitching has been good, it hasn't been exceptional. This 22-13 start, while impressive, has been built somewhat significantly on good fortune. And that's why your last part is the most important. Hopefully when the regulars come back they can start winning because they're simply better than the team across from them, rather for other, less impressive reasons. Also, vintage Mo in terms of results, not vintage Mo in terms of production. Way too many hard hit balls this year, with last night as a prime example. I bring this up just to point out that if the process continues unchanged, Mo is going to start blowing some saves, and they're going to start losing some close games.
