  1. This was really, really awful. Everything about it. Sad would actually be the best way to describe it. One of the lowest points for baseball in many years. I read through the important parts of the GT ... a few you were pretty reasonable, which was nice to see.
  2. I guess it's possible that the Pats will find a way to use him this year, at least a little bit, but I really believe this move was made almost exclusively for the future. Given McDaniel's history with him, that seems like the most likely scenario. If you put Tebow in his offense, surrounded by the right players and the right coaches, he could be successful. In any other situation it's just not happening.
  3. Well there's hardly any use in speculating at this point. We'll know soon enough.
  4. Exercising that sort of unilateral power would make even some of our recent Presidents jealous. And that's saying something.
  5. How do you know what standard he holds himself to? That's a huge assumption. Religious views do not always dictate the standard to which people hold themselves. There's no need to concoct scenarios to make Pettitte look worse than he already does. The guy used some illegal drugs. That's the extent of it. Judge him on that, not on some perceived motives or intentions.
  6. Also, to the other part of Emmz's point, I don't hold religious people to a higher standard. Far from it, in fact.
  7. I guess I'll respond to both points together, considering they amount to the same thing ... which is, if you're deeply religious, partaking in actions that violate the religious text to which you subscribe is a morally reprehensible act. There's so many avenues to take, but I'd like to point out that even if the laws of their religion would describe their actions as morally reprehensible, there's probably more objective standards that can be applied. It's also worth noting that very few Christians, if any, follow their religious text in an exact manner. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of theology knows this to be true. If you want to call of these people hypocrites I wouldn't put up much of an argument on that count, but that would also be going in a different direction than the one being argued.
  8. So because Person A is deeply religious and took steroids he's morally reprehensible? Is that the logic, or am I mistaken?
  9. Morally reprehensible? I guess I can understand the desire to use hyperbolic language to prove a point, but that's quite the combination of words as it relates to the topic at hand.
  10. You think the NBA postseason is as flukey as the MLB postseason?
  11. Fair enough. I respect that sort of commitment. EDIT: to UN
  12. Yanks scored 200 more runs than they allowed that year. Damn.
  13. Pretty remarkable. And they didn't pitch well against the Yankees, as expected. Just didn't matter. Pettitte, Mussina, and Wells all blew up in a big way. Yanks were up 6-1 in game three. Can't let that slip away.
  14. 2002 Angels also a team (one of many) that helps dispel the myth that pitching is everything in the postseason. Kevin Appier was their number two.
  15. A team that scored 19 more runs then they allowed all season.
  16. Angels also beat a hell of a Yankees team.
  17. That's fair on Cano, and yes, I do agree that not retaining him is the prudent course to take.
  18. Well I mean, if you don't think the short series is a big factor than we've reached a substantial impasse. EDIT: If the Yankees somehow managed to make it the World Series this year, you would "just know they are going to lose"?
  19. I didn't mean to imply that in any way. Considering how obvious it is that skills plays a factor, I found it unnecessary to say so explicitly. There's no doubt that a team's ability is a factor. But baseball is such where a team with a .550 winning percentage has a heck of a good shot at beating a team with a .600 win percentage in a short series. That's the point. Not only does basic logic show this to be true, but history does as well.
  20. There's probably some alternate reality where it's possible that the Yankees would consider trading Robinson Cano. Unfortunately we're still in the present reality, so it's never going to even be a consideration and it's not even worth discussing. As for the others, for starters, I don't think they would be able to net a "ton of quality prospects". Two underperforming pitchers who aren't under contract after this year and a lefty specialist may be attractive to some teams, but they aren't exactly the most valuable commodities. Additionally, maybe they are looking to trade those guys, who knows. Even if they still want to compete in 2013, they don't need Hughes and Chamberlain to do it.
  21. Who do you expect them to sell?
  22. I didn't think a lot of teams had much of a chance in a postseason series and then I was scratching my head a week later. It's baseball in a small sample size. If by some strange loophole in the rules MLB let the Marlins into the playoffs, guess what, they'd have a chance too.
  23. You don't plan to win a World Series. Because of the nature of the baseball and its postseason everyone has to realize that the only reasonable goal is to put yourself in a position to make the playoffs, and then just hope things work out from there. I would be ecstatic should the Yankees get an opportunity to play the wild card game.
