  1. the kid given up for remlinger... astacio?* throws 99mph but got some off the field issues?* he must be wanted for murder to move him for this washed up rag...
  2. look in the memorable yes quotes thread....lol
  3. and if the yankees are in a save situation tonight joe will still use him
  4. Keith Foulke will throw his fifth bullpen side session today, then throw a simulated game on Friday, when he'll pitch to Trot Nixon. It is looking like a late August return is realistic.
  5. "It is easy to second-guess me, but it was my call. I'd like someone to give me a guarantee that David Ortiz wouldn't have done that to Nate Robertson. We're talking about someone who is arguably one of the best players in baseball." -- 8.16, Tigers manager Alan Trammell lol
  6. Dustin Pedroia went 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI in the second game of Triple-A Pawtucket's doubleheader yesterday. He went 2-for-5 in the first game. Even though he won't need to be added to the 40-man roster in the offseason, Pedroia still might join the Red Sox in September. -rotoworld
  7. pap is better, miller needs another year to build up his arm strength again
  8. Detroit Weather: 11 am obsevation at DTW: Few clouds at 25,000 feet, visibility 10 miles, temperature 78 F, DP 62 F, wind out of the southeast at 3 mph. Forecast: Few clouds, blue skies, and light winds. Play ball.
  9. In college basketball, you hear the term "double bonus" in regard to team fouls and free-throw shooting. Well talk about a double bonus, last night certainly was it. Sox down 3-2 in the ninth, Yankees up 3-2 in the ninth. And then Trammell overmanages and takes out a cruising Robertson to bring in Rodney because you've got to automatically use the closer in a save situation, even if the closer has only been the closer for two weeks. For the record, I called it "idiotic" in last night's thread even before the Sox sent a batter to the plate. So a potential 2.5-game lead went back to a 4.5-game lead. Now, with day baseball, the Sox need to win and put even more pressure on the Yankees tonight. It won't be easy. Bonderman is a very good pitcher who has pitched in tough luck lately. Last time out he gave up a 2-run HR in the first and nothing else but lost 2-1 in a complete game. Wells will have to be good (and hopefully not hungover), but he can do it. So ... As Dewey Evans said to Johnny Damon before Game 1 of the World Series: "Win it. Win it. Win it."
  10. Game Info Date: Wednesday, August 17th, 2005 First Pitch: 1:05pm ET TV: NESN, ESPN Starting Pitchers: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/7106.jpghttp://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/TALKSOX/VS.GIFhttp://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/4057.jpg http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/det.gif Jeremy Bonderman (13-9, 3.96) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/bos.gif David Wells (9-5, 4.43) Boomer eyes fourth straight win Boston (69-48) at Detroit (56-62), 1:05 p.m. ET The Red Sox hand the ball to David Wells in Wednesday afternoon's rubber match of a three-game series against the Tigers at Comerica Park. Wells has been a solid performer for Boston over the last couple of months. Boomer has gone at least six innings in his last eight starts, without a loss since since July 7. The Tigers counter with ace Jeremy Bonderman, who goes after his 14th win of the season. This series has been a wildly entertaining one so far. The Tigers rallied back to win the opener on Monday with three runs in the bottom of the ninth against Curt Schilling. The Red Sox turned the tables on Tuesday, getting a game-tying homer from David Ortiz in the ninth and then rallying for seven runs in the 10th in an eventual 10-7 win. Pitching matchup BOS: LHP David Wells • 9-5, 4.43 ERA in 2005 • First appearance vs. DET in 2005 DET: RHP Jeremy Bonderman • 13-9, 3.96 ERA in 2005 • 1-0, 4.50 ERA vs. BOS in 2005 Player to watch Center fielder Johnny Damon has just one hit in nine at-bats in this series, making it logical to suspect he'll get back on track in the finale. Quotable "[Jason] Varitek, man, he's not playing around. That's good because we got him hitting behind Manny." -- Ortiz, on Varitek's two-homer night on Tuesday Quick hits Varitek is the ninth player in Red Sox history to hit a homer from both sides of the plate in one game. ... Ortiz has six multi-homer games this season. ... Boston's offense has produced six runs or more in the last eight games. The Red Sox lead the American League with 676 runs. In the last week we've beaten Buehrle, Garland and Kenny Rogers. I like to think we can handle Bonderman. Boomer Baffles Bad Boy Bats. Bonderman may have some skills, but that is no reason not to score 10 more runs.
  11. omg how good is that kid, hes like 19, and has nasty stuff. who has better stuff hernandez or duke?
  12. Crap, I think we could safely say he'll be up September 1st. He hit 95 regularly with his fast ball, and got a nice swinging third strike on an 89 mph slider away.
  13. I guess not because he has already passed thru waivers so now anybody can make a trade for him without being blocked.
  14. they wouldn't. Some teams will run their entire 40 man roster through waivers. Reason being, the more players you list, the easier it is to sneak someone through. Teams are also more careful about who they claim for fear they will get Canseco'd.
  15. Looper would be a great addition at this point. I'd take Looper in a heartbeat. He's had a tough year, but still has a 3.33 ERA and brings 95 mph heat; also pitched great in the 2003 postseason. He's about the best thing you could imagine getting in August through waivers. And the Mets desperately need a 1B. Maybe Petagine? The 1B logjam has to be cleared up somehow. Looper actually makes sense to fall that far in waivers. He's pretty expensive, having a tweener year..probably too pricey for anyone else to make a claim on or take the risk on. I think he'd be an improvement on Remlinger, though. Not exactly high standards in the Red Sox pen these days.
  16. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-redsox-olerud&prov=ap&type=lgns And Kevin Youkilis has been Merlonied back to Pawtucket. It must suck to be the only guy on the team with options. He is by no means the worst player on the 25 man, but he still gets the shaft. Poor Youk. I guess that Remlinger hasn't exhausted his humor potential quite yet.
  17. Lots of great info here, unfortunately it is an insider column, which i have been advised not to reprint in a post. Sox mentioned: "Matt Clement, Johnny Damon, Curt Schilling, Jason Varitek, [and] David Wells" were waived, but "would never be traded." A bit about Manny: "Some players never get put on waivers, and as of the last couple of days, no, Manny Ramirez had not gone on. Neither have any of the Marlins' Great Three of Miguel Cabrera, Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett, nor Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry Wood, most of the Athletics and Yankees, Jeff Weaver, Kip Wells, Jason Schmidt, Scott Eyre, Rafael Palmeiro, Alfonso Soriano ..." Bronson Arroyo was waived and claimed, apparently, before being withdrawn along w/ Clemens and Suppan, among others. Bill Mueller and Kevin Youkilis were also waived, claimed and withdrawn. Available players: Steve Kline got through, so did Ryan Vogelsong, Jason Christiansen, Scott Schoeneweis, Justin Speier, LaTroy Hawkins, Duaner Sanchez, Ramon Ortiz and Braden Looper, who are all on teams that might consider selling. "And starters? Josh Fogg, Odalis Perez, Derek Lowe, Tom Glavine, Joe Mays, Tomo Ohka, Jose Lima, Bruce Chen and Joel Pineiro. Now, obviously Glavine, Lowe, Perez and Mays have contract issues, but they are experienced major-league starters, and when the Mets get Steve Trachsel back, they will have six starters and might look to see whether there is a taker for Trachsel or Glavine." and "Mike Piazza cleared, as did Griffey and Sweeney. Frank Catalanotto, Dustan Mohr, Todd Hollandsworth, Todd Walker and Edgardo Alfonzo are players who could be interesting pickups for the stretch drive, as well."
  18. here are some posts about embree hahahhahaaha
