  1. Also, does anyone realize how good that Tampa Bay lineup potentially is? Huff, Baldelli and Lugo are hurt, and Wigginton, Gathright, Crawford, Gomes, Branyan and Hall are all threats. While watching Papelbon struggle last night, I realized I was never really relieved to have him pitching to anyone. As intimidating and intense of a pitcher as he is, some of those Devil Ray batters really scared me. Anyone else feel this way?
  2. Edit. Good thread though, it got ugly and messed up.
  3. I tip my cap down like Andy Pettitte does, and I would say my motion is like his from the right side. My friends say I bat like bat like a lefty Pujols, which is chill with me.

  5. Moving Manny AND Lester would be a real bad move IMO. I don't see how you could POSSIBLY get equal value back.
  6. Definitely. This is when Manny needs to break out. His keys are stay patient, see all corners and zones of the plate, work the count, and get a hold of a pitch and drive it. Stay back on the changeups, he looked good yesterday with those. Manny will come around soon enough. Let's see some more of that bat we saw out of Lowell 2 years ago, and let's hope Loretta's bomb brought enough pumped up mojo into the clubhouse to go out and kick the Rays' ass tonight. Go Sox!
  7. I got it, but they responded too fast so I didn't say anything about it. I don't think they got it either. Oh well.
  8. No bad blood from me. I didn't really feel any low blows, it's not like he went on national television and said he could never make money his excuse to leave Boston. Baseball is a business, and he did what anyone else would do. Congrats Pedro! I hope if you're scheduled to pitch at Fenway, you get the ovation you deserve.
  9. Okay, but just cancel that waiver request.
  10. For those of you who read the League #2 thread where BoSox34 tried to screw up the league, don't worry about this one. He is not one of the managers in this league.
  11. Yes, please do. 4 players are untouchable in the free agent pool, as BoSox34 has tried to screw up the league but I locked him down so no real damage was made. I will just be adding those players back to his roster when their waiver period is up. More details are in the commissioner's note. Sorry, and thanks for your patience.
  12. Welcome.
  13. Yeah you beat me to it. They're just wrong. Glavine is 40 years old too.
  14. I think too many people look at this trade and look at Pena as Arroyo's immediate replacement, comparing the two of them on too similar ground. Pena was NOT brought here to fill Arroyo's shoes, obviously. They are two completely different players and both gave/give to this team in different ways. Arroyo gave a quality start once every five games, but Pena has the potential to give you his bat every game (and in doing so, give you 45-50 homers a year). DiNardo looked fine out there today against the M's, and seeing that was a relief for me. I'd much rather have DiNardo out there than Wells, and if DiNardo keeps this up we won't miss Arroyo too much. That's not to say I won't miss him completely, but if someone can fill his role, then all is good. Seeing Wily Mo get better and better this year and next will be much more worth it than keeping Arroyo in this rotation when DiNardo can fill his role. I know it was only 1 start, but it was a good one nonetheless, and he will only get more comfortable there. I think he'll do fine as a 5th starter.
  15. Clemens is well remembered in New York. He's well remembered in Houston for leading them to their first world series last year. Even though he's remembered in Boston, there are still some sour ties with the fans (which I don't even understand why, really). If he came to Boston and won a world series here, he would be well remembered here forever and all sour ties are gone. I think Boston's leading the race in his mind. Who gives a s*** about Toronto?
  16. They were hard hit balls off of the monster, thus keeping him to long singles. One of those just missed getting into the monster seats. He looked much more comfortable today in the box and his timing was there. He got behind a changeup from Meche, which is good to see his patience and adjustment coming back. This always happens with Manny though. Starts off slow, then picks it up. Manny is the least of our problems right now.

  18. Well, keep in mind that the guy's still young. He's playing in major league ballparks on the ML level and more comfort patrolling the OF will come in time. Does anyone remember that helluva web gem he had last year when he filled in for Griffey in CF in Cincinatti? He scaled the wall and robbed a HR back handed or something. It was absolutely filthy.
  19. Nah. They're not THAT terrible, but they're not anything special. I still think Tampa Bay finishes below them.
  20. Holy hell, you're back!
  21. Nixon's deal was only a few days I believe. He's been out for awhile. I would say he'll return by the end of next series at the latest. Isn't Coco a week or 2 away? He still needs to be looked at again to make sure everything's ok with his hand.
  22. I don't understand how we can go off of a statement such as "his secondary pitches are not as good." Do you have any solid proof of numbers or something that we could see? This wasn't a shot at you, but a serious question.
  23. Well, in fairness, the umps have been downright awful.
  24. The point remains that we were never expecting for things RIGHT NOW to look good. We acquired Wily Mo knowing that we were going to get tons of strikeouts with a good amount of HRs. Over the next few years, he could be the next 40/50 HR hitter in the lineup. That's when you judge this trade. Too many people are judging it after only 2 weeks of the baseball season. It CAN'T BE JUDGED YET.
  25. Clement had always had a bad history of breaking down and tiring out during the home stretch of the second half of the season. Beckett has no such history. Beckett had a 0.96 ERA (or something like that) during the '03 playoffs. His dominance can continue way past the end of the first half of the season. Clement is a pussy? What the f***?
