You are quite the hypocrite if you bash Theo for dishing out $51 million to a potential ace for years to come in Matsuzaka, but turn around and give Cashman an A+ offseason despite the $25 million he posted for Igawa, who will possibly start the season in AAA and isn't supposed to be any better than a 4th starter nor half as good as Matsuzaka.

And use up even more cap space that can be better used on our greatest weakness, the bullpen? Why are people so quick to write Pedroia off?

You make it sound like you have low expectations.. Those numbers are Cy Young candidate worthy. I'm not saying it won't happen...it could, it just seems unreasonable to expect out of him in his first year.

A sub-4 ERA in his first season in the AL East seems a little more like wishful thinking. Maybe once he's adjusted, but a 3.89 coming out of the gate? I don't think so.

Isn't Rod Barajas still available? I'd be much more interested in him than Toby.

Why Giles? He wasn't too convincing last season and Pedroia looks essentially the same except he's younger and cheaper.

It is true. This is much less than I've expected. It's 11mill/year and I'm getting aggravated that this isn't done. We've been speculating, at least on this board, that he'll get at LEAST $13mill/yr. Boras countered with 11mill/yr for 6 years?? JUMP ON THAT s*** RIGHT NOW. I have every reason to be pissed off at Theo and Co. if they're 3 mill/yr apart with Boras and we're only offering 8mill/yr. Stupid, stupid, STUPID.

Zito is a terrible fit for Boston. The left field wall will eat him up. Not someone I wanna watch pitch half of his starts at Fenway.

I asked because if Daisuke Matsuzaka falls through, we're f***ed until after '08 (because at this rate, the Cubs are sure to extend Zambrano, and Buehrle would be nice, but he's not a dominant ace) in terms of big name pitchers that are appealing (assuming they don't sign extensions). The point is this: if Matsuzaka doesn't get signed, we're f***ed for this year and we can kiss it good bye. And even if we do end up seeing some sort of ace pitcher, you can kiss Manny good bye. Zito isn't appealing to me and if you're going to get someone that would have an ace effect, teams will see how desperate Boston is and ask for at least Manny. So, I just wanted to see how long until the Sox would have their next opportunity at a big name pitcher.
