I think the Red Sox are banking on the failing economy to get worse in 2009. That way, they have a chance to pick up bargains in the trade market.
I see the economy having a temporary boost when Obama's stimulus plan goes into effect, but the plan will eventually fail, and the economy will probably be suffering a whole lot more.
The Red Sox should make huge splashes in the 2009/2010 market. Giambi and Burrell's contracts are proof that the failing economy is depressing baseball wages. Why not take full advantage of that effect when the system implodes?
