    That's pure speculation. Perez's decline has to be from the fact that he's not throwing strikes, and he doesn't know how to pitch with his dimished fastball. Personally, I agree with ORS. His motion has changed a bit. Watch a video of him from 2004, then watch one in 2006. There's a difference. Perez may have found something at AAA. He only walked 8 batters down in Indianaoplis. Then again, it is AAA.

    I really don't think that Kapler is going to get more playing time. He might get a start every fourth day, but he isn't going to do anything that stupid.

    Abreu > Cabrera Wilson > Williams/Crosby/Guiel Eh, I don't really like Lidle. He's going to be a 5.00 ERA + in the AL. You got to go back to 2002 to see his last good season. I don't see how moving to Yankee Stadium is going to help him. He's got a penchant to surrender bombs against lefthanded hitters. That 313 FT porch should look awfully shallow. He's got decent control, but he's allowed more hits then IP this year. Now you're asking him to move to the AL East? Good luck. Basically, the Yankees improved their offense, but did little to improve the pitching staff. By little, I mean nothing.

    The Pirates helped the Yankees immensely. Not only do they get a solid bench player, but they took Chacon off their hands. Any pitcher is an upgrade over Chacon.

    They were winners, but they probably overpaid for Lugo. The Yankees didn't give up anything for Abreu, Lidle, and Wilson.

    I guess the Dodgers are going to hope that Garciaparra plays first, Lugo plays second, Furcal at SS, and Kent at third. It also could be, Kent to 1st, and Betemit to third. I don't know how long Garciaparra will be out for.

    You're talking about the 5th and 6th options out of our bullpen. Seanez is pretty good at that. I'm looking at his strikeouts (9.15 K/9), ERA (3.92), and his BABIP. (.343) Maybe with a little luck, his ERA could come down further. He's not a bad relief pitcher, or not nearly as bad as the Red Sox demonize him out to be.

    The more innings that Delcarmen and Hansen throw the better they'll get. Basically, the bullpen I'm looking at is: CL: Papelbon RP: Timlin RP: Delcarmen RP: Hansen RP: Seanez RP: Lopez RP: Corey RP: Tavarez That's not a bad bullpen. Not many other teams have the amount of the talent the Red Sox do in the bullpen. Not the Yankees, not the Blue Jays. Right now, the Red Sox have to advantedge on pitching and on defense.

    Johnson was placed on waivers and no one bit. Same with Guiel. (Probably)

    If what the media reports was correct. The Red Sox didn't want to cough up Lester or Hansen for a rental. Our Wells is better then Kip Wells, and the bullpen is good enough to not warrant a panic move.

    I'm assuming they would have parted for at least one of them. The Nationals probably wanted three blue-chip prospects, seeing what they got for Bray and Majeskwi. Could they have gotten Baker, Kubel, and Bonser for Soriano? If they could, they should have pulled the trigger. If they got at least one pitching prospect back, they should have done it. Soriano won't be around when the Nationals are contending. He may not be around in '07.

    He's a massive upgrade over Phillips. Just like Abreu is a massive upgrade over Williams/Cabrera. Kudos to Cashman. Maybe he should have traded Chacon for Zach Duke though.

    The Nationals aren't built to win now. They aren't built to win in '07. Adding Soriano for four years while he absorbs 10 to 15% of their budget won't help. Landing prospects would probably help the team. They probably could have gotten Sanchez and Thames from the Tigers, or Garza and Kubel from the Twins. Those players are more valuable to the Nationals. Plus, there's no guarantee that Soriano will resign with the Nationals. However, the Nationals might feel compelled to give him a big contract. Probably $13 to $15 million annually. Not a wise investment when the team isn't built to win. When they get a new stadium built, they should be able to make a move.
