Burnett (6-6, 4.53 ERA) http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/bos.gif#55 Kevin Jarvis (0-1, 11.91 ERA) stats>> Jarvis set for Red Sox debut Toronto (69-66) at Boston (73-62), 1:05 p.m. ET By Mike Petraglia / Special to MLB.com With Tropical Storm Ernesto bearing down on the Northeast, the Red Sox and Blue Jays have moved up their Saturday game to 1:05 p.m. ET. And the Red Sox can only hope that the torrent of medical issues will have subsided by the time the first pitch is thrown by Red Sox newcomer Kevin Jarvis. Following Friday night's 2-1 win over Toronto, it was announced that Curt Schilling will miss his Monday start with a Grade 1 strain of his right latissimus. Boston also announced that Jonathan Papelbon will have his strained right shoulder examined. "It's our job," Kevin Youkilis said after the latest batch of injury news Friday. "Our job is to play baseball. You've got to go out there and do your job, plain and simple. You can't cry, 'Boo-hoo, we don't have our starters in.' You can't do much about it, but you can't cry about it. You just play hard, because anyone can win in this game. That's why the bottom teams beat the best teams in the game. It's baseball. Crazy things can happen. Hell, just look at RSR, he's 17-3 in the Talksox.com gamethread for Christ sake." Jarvis, obtained Thursday from Arizona, is a 37-year-old right-hander who will be making his 116th Major League start, compiling a 33-44 mark with four complete games. This will be his first career appearance against Toronto since 1997. Toronto sends right-hander A.J. Burnett to the mound as the Red Sox look for their third straight win in the four-game weekend series. Pitching Matchup TOR: RHP A.J. Burnett (6-6, 4.53 ERA) Burnett pitched through rainy conditions in his last start, giving up six runs on 10 hits in seven innings against Cleveland on Aug. 28. The right-hander wouldn't blame the conditions on the ineffectiveness of his pitches, though. His four-seam fastball was up in the zone and his two-seamer failed to sink, helping the Guardians connect on seven extra-base hits against Burnett. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak in which Burnett posted a 3.04 ERA. The righty's only career start against Boston came on April 21, when he left the game after four innings due to an elbow injury that led to a two-month stay on the disabled list. BOS: RHP Kevin Jarvis (0-1, 11.91 ERA) The 37-year-old right-hander makes his Boston debut just two days after being acquired from Arizona for a player to be named later. This season, he made one start for the Diamondbacks and four relief appearances between June 4-17 before being designated for assignment on June 19. In his only start, he allowed eight runs and nine hits against Texas over five innings and took the loss in Arizona's 8-4 loss at Texas on June 17. Player to watch Eric Hinske has hit safely in five straight games, going 6-for-16 (.375) with two doubles, two RBIs and a run to break out of a 1-for-21 slump in his previous nine games. Now because of the hurricane time change, I'm blacked out for this one.. Here's to three in a row. GO SOX!
  2. Well, that's still bad enough to warrant a shut down for the rest of the year if you ask me. Two saves to the rookie record? Not at the possible expense.
  3. wonderful... and to a far lesser degree of importance, I'll go from being able to watch the game to being blacked out tomorrow. For a win, this is a pretty s***** night.
  4. Yeah, in his shoulder. f*** my mojo, this is bad until someone says otherwise. 2007 is looking pretty f***ed right now.
  5. I've never seen anything like this before with injuries. And I've been watching since 1983. God, Papelbon.
  6. It's really hard to find out anything insightful about it on the internet - well, about a treatment anyway. It sounds like they caught it early. I have no idea what this means to his career, but it sounds like if treated he has a success rate of about 80%.
  7. Lester has been diganosed with Anaplastic large cell lymphoma

(AP) -After receiving some good news off the field, the Boston Red Sox finally made some good news on it. The injury-plagued Red Sox ended their six-game losing streak Thursday, and got the news that they may have slugger David Ortiz in the lineup by Saturday as they continue their four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Friday night. Boston (72-62) stopped its slide with a 6-4 victory over Roy Halladay and the Jays (69-65) thanks in part to excellent defense and the fact that RedSoxRooter bestowed upon the team some of his best mojo of the season - improving to 16-3 when starting the gamethread. The Red Sox had limped home following a 2-7 road trip, and began the current series without Ortiz and Manny Ramirez . Before the game, Ortiz said he is in good health after experiencing heart palpitations and hopes to play Saturday. The team was more cautious about the possible return of the AL's leading home run hitter, who was not at the ballpark Thursday. ''I talked to David today,'' Boston manager Terry Francona said. ''I think he was very upbeat. I think the medical people are also, but, at the same time, we sent him home to be careful. So to deviate from that plan now would be, in my opinion, stupid, and we're not going to be stupid.'' Ramirez, who leads the team with a .326 average, missed his fifth straight game Thursday with a knee injury, and his status is uncertain. The Red Sox are also without Jason Varitek (knee), Alex Gonzalez (back) and Trot Nixon (biceps strain), all of whom are on the disabled list. All three could return sometime next week. A fortuitous bounce helped the Red Sox remain eight games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East, and pull within 6 1/2 of wild-card leading Chicago. In the seventh inning, Blue Jays right fielder Alex Rios juggled Alex Cora 's fly ball about 10 feet from the fence and accidentally knocked it over the wall for a two-run homer that snapped a 4-4 tie. ''Sometimes you need a break,'' Francona said. ''We played ourselves into position where a break helps us win a game, not gets us back within four.'' He added "Of course it helps to have RSR mojo behind us on the field too. I love that guy, whoever he is." Kyle Snyder (3-3, 6.91 ERA) will make his seventh start of the season for Boston on Friday. He's lasted past the fifth inning just once in his first six outings. The right-hander pitched four innings Sunday and gave up six runs and eight hits in a 6-3 loss at Seattle. ''The bottom line is I wasn't able to get the job done,'' Snyder said. Snyder is 0-2 with an 8.71 ERA in two starts against Toronto. The Blue Jays missed a chance Thursday to pull within one game of the Red Sox for second place in the division. Toronto is 7-5 against Boston this season. The Blue Jays ' Ted Lilly (11-11, 4.78), Friday's scheduled starter, is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA in his last three starts at Fenway Park. In his lone start at Boston this year, he gave up one run in seven innings of an 8-6 victory April 13. Lilly won for only the second time since the All-Star break Sunday despite surrendering six runs in 5 1-3 innings of a 10-6 victory over Kansas City. The start was his first since scuffling with manager John Gibbons on Aug. 21 after he was pulled from a game against Oakland. ''What happened last start was unlike both of us. I think we learned a lot from it,'' Lilly said. ''It's good to come back and contribute a little bit, enough to help us win.'' The left-hander is 2-3 with an 8.28 ERA in his last six outings. Let's win another. GO SOX!
  10. I don't see it. Where does it say he was DFA'd? The newest player notes are from Aug. 25th.
  11. This is no joke, but the last time I was planning on starting the gamethread was game 1 of the Yankees series. Unfortunately, I couldn't start it because we were coming off a win... RSR Mojo invests all it's energy into Jon Lester right now. Good luck Jon.
  12. One more game and then Papi and Pena are gonna be back. One more game of RSR mojo should get us there. For I am the Lizard KING!
  13. I wonder who we're getting for Wells. Must be a list the Pads said the Sox could choose from.
  14. I think there will be cheers until Tavarez walks the first batter. Oh, and I was thinking about this on the ride home. How deep do you think Roy will take a no hitter tonight?

  16. Ok. Enough with this nonsense. I'm starting the game thread tomorrow. I'll just wait until we find out who's starting.
  17. The Cards are just making a token offer. Well's is going to the west coast.
  18. (Just posted in the wrong thread) OH s*** COCO!
  19. Sawwwweeeet. I get the NESN broadcast too!
  20. ahhh. Pirates win on a walkoff bases loaded walk. The Cubs are pathetic.
  21. Jesus Christ. Perfect double play ball by the Pirates and the Cubs throw it away. Tie game 6-6. C'mon Pirates! End this madness!
  22. I would. See, by makeshift, you make it sound so bad. A decent closer is a lot less hard to find than a quality starter. Anyone remember Brandon Lyon? I think he had TWO good years. If a starter has two good years he demands 10 million a year.
