  1. Leo Mazzone!!! Please?
  2. Exactly why I'm not scared shitless about the possiblity of you guys acquring him. For some reason though, I think he would own A-Rod. Just a gut feeling that Flash matches up well with him.
  3. That won't surprise me. He's played there before and has been criticized in NY, giving him reason to leave. Plus he wants to close. Boston makes sense for him. Matsui coming to the US only wanted to play for the Yankees, and has no reason to leave. He wants to be here, the Yankees want him here, and they'll pay Hideki. No reason to expect him to be going anywhere.
  4. I always hit mute in Madden and listen to music. Announcers tend to suck a lot of the time, because they say obvious stuff to cater to the retarded fan. That's why I like Jim Kaat's analysis, because he really doesn't put in much BS when he's giving commentary.
  5. On the Cano point- The ball didn't hit Robby, it was a bad throw and a bad play by Erstad at first. He wasn't on the grass when he reached the bag either. It was a bad call, it happens. That's not what I'm saying. My point is, s*** like that happens and if you are going to complain about the call you didn't get, don't forget the bogus one you got the week prior.
  6. Pettitte or Matsui? Neither one of those guys are ego guys. Pettitte took less money to play at home because he's a big family man. Andy's been my favorite player since he came up, I've followed his career closely and out of anyone, I know a lot about him. He wanted to play in Houston, so that's where he went. Matsui could have gotten a big contract at the start of the year if he wanted to make a fuss, but he said he'll come out and earn his next contract and negotiate at the end of the year. How often do you hear that out of somebody? Definitely not ego people.
  7. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051013&content_id=1248934&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb haha, I did not see this one coming. Since he became pitching coach in 1996, the Yankees pitchers rank first in ERA, OPP BA, Saves, Shutouts, WHIP, Strikeouts and Wins. Can't be that bad.
  8. No, I think he's got too much honor and respect for the Yankee organization to switch sides of the rivalry like that. Like when Boston offered Pettitte a ridiculous amount of money that he turned down 2 years ago.
  9. You are right, Johnny Damon + David Ortiz were better than A-Rod this year. Unfortunately for Boston, you don't get to combine players for awards. Nice try. Neither of us are getting a World Series, but we've got frontrunners/winners in the MVP, Cy Young, Comeback Player, Reliever of the year, and Rookie of the Year races.
  10. Angels deserved that crap for that bogus call on Cano. They get that one right, and the Yankees are playing in the LCS.
  11. Yes, a couple of games define a career. Forget his career numbers with RISP (.314, .883) Close and Late (.347, 1.044) Runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs (.451, 1.177). Oh and career Postseason (.319, .933). You lose.
  12. Steinbrenner is f***ing up that franchise anyway. Sure he spends the money, but by undermining the coaches (Zimmer, Stot, Torre) he's done irreparable damage. It comes down to the Tampa heirarchy basically taking over, and screwing over Cashman, Torre and Co. He's not going to be happy until Pinella is in here, and that scares the s*** out of me. I can't stand Pinella as a coach, and I don't think he'll work with the Yankees. I'd love to see what happens the first time he yells at Sheffield. He can kick and scream at little kids, but Torre's attitude is perfect and is the only kind that will succeed with this team.
  13. Matsui vs. BOS, .309 AVG, .836 OPS Matsui @ Fenway, .330 AVG, .924 OPS
  14. Well Matsui does own you guys, but don't expect him to be switching sides. The backlash alone would be too much if he left.
  15. He's not worth $252 million, but no ballplayers are worth what they make. Not one. However, I still think he will contribute to this team's success. Remember, we aren't here without Alex by a long shot.
  16. Johnson could still very well win 20 games, let's not kid ourselves. We gave A-Rod and adjustment year, and this year he was MVP. That was Johnson's grace year, now it's time for him to step up and be the pitcher we know he is.
  17. Vlad didn't want to go to NY. Sheffield did.
  18. I joined back when this forum had just been conceived, referred from Netsports by the creator and talksox deity yeszir.
  19. Astros in 6, Oswalt pitching the clincher.
  20. You guys really ought to keep Damon. The offense will take a bigger hit than you think if he's gone.
  21. Wright for Boomer, deal?
  22. Embree is definitely done, they may be able to talk Leiter into being a lefty out of the pen. He did do awful good in that role. And I don't expect Wagner and Ryan to take on setup roles, which is why I'd prefer Gordon to Wagner. But if someone took Gordon I think we'd have to make a run at both of those guys to actually improve our bullpen.
  23. I was actually going to dig this up. Shows how much of a winding road the season is. It's funny, if Crosby catches that ball in center, we're talking about how the Yankees persevered and the outstanding job Johnson did out of the bullpen to save our season.
  24. 1B- Giambi 2B- Cano 3B- Rodriguez SS- Jeter LF- Matsui CF- Hunter RF- Sheffield C- Hernandez DH- Posada SP- Johnson SP- Mussina SP- Chacon SP- Wang SP- Wright RP- Small RP- Proctor RP- Rivera RP- Ryan RP- Wagner/Gordon RP- Sturtze Bn- Crosby Bn- Bellhorn/Infielder Bn- Martinez Bn- Escalona Bn- 5th outfielder Manager- Joe Torre GM- Brian Cashman My ideal would be to trade Pavano, who still has some value, for Torii Hunter in Minnesota in some sort of package. Obviously you eat a lot of his salary, but it makes some sense. Sign Ramon Hernandez to catch so you can put Posada at DH. Bring in Ryan, at whatever you need to pay for him. I would prefer Gordon over Wagner, simply to have a righty, lefty and Rivera at the back of the bullpen. Keep Small in the old Mendoza role (spot starter, middle reliever). Forget the big name starter, our rotation is damn good this way. Of course, if Clemens were inticed to come back I wouldn't mind making a spot for him. Wright spent a lot of time on the DL this year, are we allowed to buy out his contract? I know there was some clause like that in there. Just something to keep in mind. As alternatives, Giles is on the wrong side of potential going to be 35 on Opening day, Cameron is 32 and Damon is 31 with no arm. I don't like the idea of investing in those guys. One other guy I wouldn't mind making a trade for would be Juan Pierre, perhaps again with Pavano headed back to Florida. I don't know if they're looking to trade him but it is something to be explored. In fact, I like Pierre better than Hunter. That's my brief analysis anyway.
  25. I concur.
