I have no real problems with Clemens, especially after he shafted the Yankees. Let the man go into the Hall, preferably in a Sox cap. All will be forgiven.

No, Mirabelli would have to start for probably half a season to all of next season. Shoppach still needs more time to develop I think.

I think Varitek is the one player they most need to resign, but they really can't if he's asking for an astronomical number. I'm sure that's the thinking in the front office as well. So I agree that his demands, as of now, are too much.

Varitek is irreplaceable. Plain and simple. No one else has the same combination of defensive ability, contact, and a bit of pop as well. Sure Piazza might be able to play catcher once again, but he sucks back there. Just a complete liability. I'd rather have Varitek any day. And on the Magglio issue: he basically broke himself this year. People thought his injury was career-threataning, and many still think he'll never be the same again. I would rather have Manny's offensive presence, defense, contract, and all, than $10 million invested in someone who may never even play again.

Zito would make me happy, IF he can get it together and start putting out some quality innings. I'm kind of scared of him right now, since he's declined each of hte last two years (or was it just last year? Either way...).

The more future talent, the better. I'm enjoying watching Theo rebuild the farm system.

Personally, I'd love to have C.C. But I doubt they'd trade him, seeing as he is really young still, and signed for a while. But if Theo found a way, that didn't rape the farm system, then I'd be all for it.

I'm all for getting Beltran. But once, again, he'd just be a rent-a-player. The Sox would then just have yet another high-priced free agent to resign, and we know they can't manage the ones the already have. (Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I haven't read the rest of the thread.)

I agree tha he needs time, but I'm not sure he's cut out to be a starter. His motion throws hitters off the first time they see him, but after that they adjust (as we've seen) and they can pound him.
