  1. f***ing day games. Matt Clement (8-1, 3.48 ERA) vs Vicente Padilla (3-6, 6.23 ERA) Lineups: Boston J. Damon cf .339 E. Renteria ss .267 D. Ortiz 1b .304 M. Ramirez lf .273 T. Nixon rf .300 J. 2. Whooops, I was wrong. I looked up the stats incorrectly, there are plenty of Phillies who have faced Wake. I knew that seemed wrong. Abreu, Bell, and Lieberthal all have had success.
  3. Some people are uncomfortable with swearing. It's no problem if he says frickin' or effing in my book. And about retirement - I don't think he'll retire unless he's serious about his whole "starting fresh with my family" thing. I like Damon and all, but I wouldn't be against him leaving the Sox. And there is only a microscopic chance he'll sign with the Yankees. Honestly, do you see him wearing pinstripes?
  4. Tim Wakefield (5-6, 4.41 ERA) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/123801.jpg vs. Jon Lieber (8-6, 4.63 ERA) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/117758.jpg Guess what? Jon Lieber has given up TWENTY homeruns this year. In 2004, Lieber was 1-0 with a 4.19 ERA in 3 starts against the Red Sox. Mueller and Millar have enjoyed HUGE success against Lieber, going a combined 24 for 52 against him with 8 extra base hits. Any chance Millar will start tonight with Manny, Ortiz, or Nixon on the bench? No DH this series. The only Phillie who has EVER faced Wakefield is Ramon E. Martinez, a bench player who is 1-8 this year for the Phillies.
  5. I thought I would update this, as things are pretty different than when we started this thread. Player G GS W L SV CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA Matt Clement 15 15 8 1 0 1 0 95.2 89 39 37 6 32 78 3.48 1.26 .245 Tim Wakefield 14 14 5 6 0 0 0 87.2 92 47 43 8 39 53 4.41 1.49 .271 Bronson Arroyo 15 14 6 3 0 0 0 87.1 86 43 39 8 19 54 4.02 1.20 .257 David Wells 12 12 6 4 0 0 0 72.1 82 38 38 9 8 39 4.73 1.24 .287 Wade Miller 9 9 2 2 0 0 0 50.1 50 28 27 4 22 32 4.83 1.43 .256 Has the starting pitching been excellent? No. But it has been effective, especially as of late.
  6. Olerud has put up some pretty filthy numbers off the bench, but my bias will make me vote for Youk, as he always seems to come up in the clutch...but so does Olerud...AHHHHHH. It must be nice for Francona to have too many people worthy of starting.
  7. Oh, the explosion's fine, we just don't want it as a signature. And if you don't know what YesZir's referring to, Gabe Kapler showed off his Jewish pride in an interview by wearing a bakery shirt, the front saying, "Challah Front" and the back saying "Challah Back."
  8. Or until I see it. Get rid of it. Too long. Too inappropriate. Too huge.
  9. Um, welcome back? Why you weren't banned when you left in February is beyond me: http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?p=31626#post31626 You can read the first post too.
  10. A HUGE welcome to you, thanks for what you do, and enjoy the boards. You can harass Yankee fans here too.
  11. There's the other run from Embree. Lightsout - Curtis Leskanic was a big fan favorite, a clubhouse clown, and an all around great guy. But he retired.
  12. The obligatory Embree run was just given up. Myers got an out but allowed the inherited runner to score. Timlin for 1 1/3, that'd be nice.
  13. Feel better. Tonight should be Timlin in the 8th, Williamson...I mean foulke in the 9th.
  14. 26 to 6 - that game in your sig was 5 years ago. As was the last time the Yankees won a world series. Sorry, couldn't resist.
  15. I agree and disagree with a lot of things that have been said. The D-rays bullpen is a nightmare with the exception of Baez. The yanks hit 4 HRs in that one inning, that's impressive. The D-rays got 7 runs off Randy Johnson, that's NOT a good sign for NY. When the Sox beat the Marlins 25-8, I left that game with a bittersweet feeling...we had given up 8 runs. Not good. Giving up 9 runs against the Guardians last night, not good. Have the Yankees bats come alive after tonights game? Who knows. Sometimes it takes playing against a s***** team to get those bats going again. Sometimes it means nothing.
  16. Your sarcasm tickles me. Someone said it in this thread - let the pitching do the talking. Sometimes the things he says are very entertaining, but honestly, start talking after you start pitching.
  17. 91.57 wins, actually. So it's almost 92!
  18. I guess I'll be the first to welcome you... Welcome to the site! Glad to have you here.
  19. A return to Boston? Holy s***, I hope so. From Gammons @ espn.com.
  20. I dunno. I mean, the Red Sox really have no problems in scoring runs, and Johnny is certainly productive batting leadoff. I guess if Bellhorn gets on base ahead of him, Edgar, Ortiz, Manny...etc, he's useful. If he could score a lot of runs for us, that's almost as good as knocking in a lot. Welcome to the site, BTW.
  21. I never thought my 1000th post would be about my confusion about whether or not to hate Kevin Millar. Oh well, happy 1001st!
  22. I love and hate Millar at the same time. He made a lot of good points, some things he should have gone without saying.
  23. I disagree. If he cared about his image, he wouldn't do KFC commercials.
  24. Ouch. Austria, not Australia. Brutal.
  25. I hope not...I love Youk.
