The way giolito is pitching they might get him for a bag of chips.

You crack me up.

His last start sucked, so his value drops to nothing. LOL!

He had a 2.45 ERA in the 7 starts before this last one. I guess those are meaningless.

He had a 3.45 ERA over the 19 starts before July 18th.

If Sale, Houck and Whitlock are all returning -- and they're all effective, as some posters assume (you know, if everything breaks just right, ad infinitum) -- then they should be able to trade Paxton for a good prospect... without giving up on the season... of shooting for a wild card.

And that will make Paxton the best trade chip in the Bloom Era... that the Red Sox actually traded.

If they don't trade Paxton, and don't make the World Series, and don't resign Paxton for what it would've cost to keep Eovaldi, then how many fans here and elsewhere will lament Bloom for not making a move to improve the Sox... again?

I don’t think you count on alll those guys coming back to fill two holes, I think you count on 1 and go get a starter. If everyone gets healthy, just push someone to the pen

Trading Paxton, IMHO, would be giving up on the season. And Sale's and Whitlock's injury history gives me no confidence that either could finish the season w/o another injury.

What makes Paxton the best trade chip? Seriously. If the Sox trade him to whoever, what would they gain they wouldn't gain by simply waiting for him to become a free agent?

As for Sale, Houck, and Whitlock, I think the jury's very much out of them.

Sale starting going sour way back in 2017 when he struggled in games in August and September. Finally came tommy john surgery, which took a while to recover from--and it wasn't a full recovery--and then came the bicycle injury. This year he looked great for, what, 8 games (a quarter of a season)? Then bam, out for at least two months because his shoulder hurt--Mr. Fragile.

Whitlock has had one good season with the Sox, 2021, all in the bullpen. Last year and this year he's been injured and not that effective as a starter.

Houck has been healthy as a horse and good enough in the bullpen to merit some starts. But he too has been up and down as a starter, especially the 2d and 3d times through the opposing batting orders. Plus this facial injury could affect him psychologically once he faces real hitters.

Btw, not trading Bogey before last year's deadline was the biggest blunder in Bloom's position of GM.

What would the Sox have gotten for someone who was about to be a free agent?

Agreed. I'd have traded everyone not nailed down for the best offer.

Better than the low comp picks we got for just Bogey & Nate. Nothing for JD, Wacha, Hill, Strahm,,,

Bloom did attempt to trade JD, but only the Mets were willing to give up something worth while, but then they backed off at the last minute. I know you knew that.

The Sox backed off, right, because they thought the return was not enough?
