In a laugher, the manager will sometimes let a position player pitch the 9th. Have you seen a manager have to use a pitcher at a position, maybe extra innings, or injury driven ? Not as a pinchrunner like Tom Brewer in the 50's, or PH like Jerry casales, but to play a live position ?

Just seeing if I can fill up an entire page but with cogent comments. I'd be there and doing something else but Max interrupted the chain. The comment is that Joely keeps it low in the zone, which could be a good sign, but 2 walks with a 12-1 lead is not good. But it is early for Joely in his first game . 20+ pitches is not good for the rest of the BP. They will all have to work tonight

Sox competing in the AL bEast with 3 guys in the infield late tonight who probably should be in Worcester . Arroyo should be the guy in Worcester. Come June the list of dudes who should be on the list of tradables will be composed.

Here's a question for you guys:

What was the last rule change that ever favored the pitcher in MLB? Has there ever been one?

When hitting off a tee was outlawed, back in 1876

The DH keeps pitchers from being plunked.

Beginning in the 1930 season a ball that bounced over the fence was no longer ruled a HR. I guess that favored the pitcher.

Moon, always good to se you, this was getting lonely but then I understand being on PDT vs EDT. You are in the middle, right?

Williams would have had 60 easy if that rule hadn't changed. Should have made that the ball was still in play and the fielder had to go after it. Piniella would have lived about 2 minutes in the Rf stands

No matter how you rationalize it, the Sox are a .500 team over their last 4 games

Sox are 4 games over .500 for the season in part because you and your negativism have started just 3 game threads.

I'm very tempted to tell you to go f*** yourself , but not sure you are serious.

It was a cheap shot which I regret. You also started a game thread (April 25) at my request. Kluber was starting. Dangerous duty, I said.

Central Time.

I had to take a break from the hyper-negativism often found on game threads in hard times.
