This team was getting by on enthusiasm and late inning magic. Their pitching is among the worst, if not the worst, of any contending team. The lack of reinforcements demonstrates a lack of belief in this team and that will be viewed as an abandonment by the players. You can only go so far on enthusiasm and late inning magic. This could go in the wrong direction very dramatically.

Bloom took the air out of this team by not making a move any move to get a starter here.

Nice DP by Dalbec, caught the grounder, threw quickly to 2b, caught the return throw.

Bobby has played decent defense at first; the only problem is a team can only employ one DH during the game.

Nice to see that JDM remains useless on a team that needs him. The pitching still is not good (3 runs in 5 innings) but the hitting is very weak. Last night Hunter cannot touch the ball with bases loaded, tonight he homers, followed by 2 base runners who get left by the indomitable Dalbec who K's

Pivetta pitched fairly well, getting jobbed on two strikes (1 to Zinnio and 1 to Lowe) before giving up the HR. He did give up 2 hits and a wild pitch that Vasquez might have blocked. Not so bad tonight in almost 5 innings.. I agree about Dalbec, but no reinforcements were brought in at trade time so he sits there a rally killer. The game isn't over but the Sox offense is not hitting with runners in scoring position so it doesn't look good now.

This!!!! Took a season in which we were tied for the most wins in the entire league and is throwing it away by not making a move e

I get it if we weren’t even in a playoff spot. But we had a good chance to win thr World Series this year with another capable starter or two. It’s like they thought this was a toss away season. You NEVER f***ing toss away a season in which you are tied for the best team in the league. Beyond stupid. That s*** is unforgivable in my books.

How can Dalbec be so totally incompetent and clueless. He swung at minimum of 2 balls, maybe 3. Can't catch a fastball for his life

One thing I have noticed about almost all Sox pitchers over the years. Few of them like to work the lower part of the strike zone. This strikes me as dumb when the infielders have the advantage of those computer programs that position them to do well against ground balls. The Rays and some other pitching staffs seem to love working the lower part of the zone, which is why it seems--I have no hard data on this--the Sox hit a lot of grounders.

Also, for big parts of this season there has been an incessant clamor on talksox to bring up the youngsters, so much so that one had the impression that Dalbec and Duran were almost guaranteed to be instant stars. Now we are in August and it sure seems that talksoxers who clamored for the rookies were wrong. Perhaps Bloom and Cora were wrong too, but at least their defense can be that, even though Dalbec and Duran have looked awful, they have at least gained some experience about what they need to work on. Plus, in defense of those clamoring for the rookies, it can also be fairly said that the veterans all got the first shots to show what they can do.

Duran's OPS is under .500 and Dalbec's is over .600.

Dalbec swings at pitches out of the zone and often looks pathetic. We really have no first base answer at this time.

I've kind of felt the same way and said so awhile back. But now I think:

1. Eovaldi got killed last night, and he was the one really good (not great) starter we thought the Sox had. We think Sale will be great, but he hasn't pitched to MLB hitting in two years, so there is no guarantee he will be great.

2. In other words, to have a good rotation, the Sox needed two Max Scherzer types, and those would have been prohibitively expensive in terms of salaries and prospects.

3. The hitting has also fallen off, and whether Schlarber can help or even play every day--preferably at 1b--definitely remains to be seen. He has been out a month already and has never played 1b.

4. The Sox defense remains the worst in MLB.

5. The bullpen has been excellent this season, but it too seems to be falling off lately. If you doubt me, ask the Rays.

The Arroyo experiment failed miserably and painfully.

That injury has taken a good bat out of our lineup. No word on his return yet.

And you're basing this stat on Duran's ton of at bats?

Completely agree it's a small sampling. But it's also the only one available. Dalbec has a full month (or was it more?) with the Sox last year and big chunks of 4 months this year, and he doesn't seem to be improving, but he statistically better than Duran.

True to all points and offense is inconsistent. Seems when we finally get decent pitching like tonight the offense is no where to be found. I still think two good starters make the difference. Nate was do for a bad start. It sucked because we needed that win but I wasn’t surprised. Sale will be back soon which will help but might be too late by then. We have a very winnable series coming up against Detroit but splitting to Toronto and being swept by Tampa just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Did they sat oh for 14 with Red Sox on base ? It's the hitters guys over the last week

Had thee leadoff man on first and couldn't advance him one base. What do you recommend in the 9th? Plaweki, Dalbec or someone else?
