An unusual movie with a very good cast even though bigger stars (than Reynolds, Voight, Cox, and Beatty) were considered/asked. No stunt doubles were used, also no insurance. Dickey was an alcoholic who showed up drunk on the set and got into a fight with the director Boorman (who lost teeth and the fight). It is preserved in the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress.
