That is correct. Ted Williams was also hit in the arm by a pitch right before the 1946 WS. Ted underperformed in that WS, but he never used his arm injury as an excuse.

Think about DFA'ing Andriese or Workman: call up Houck, if ready or Phillips Valdez.

I feel like he's ad a long enough chance, but at that money, maybe we can give him mop up duty and see if he can work his way back to a more meaningful role.

Speaking of pitchers who aren't earning their money, do you all remember Ryan Dempster? Before the 2013 season he signed a 2 year 26.5 million dollar contract with the SOX. Before the 2014 season started, Dempsey decided to retire saving the SOX 13 million dollars. I remember Ryan saying that he was terrible in 2013 and he wanted to spend more time with his family. He was a class act.
