Pivetta (3.86) vs. Valdez (2.25) tomorrow, so, given the overall weak defense, weak pitching, and weak hitting, a sweep seems likely.

I don't believe Richards, although he did struggle, was weak tonight. However, even if the BP had come thru, SOX would still have lost. Weak hitting and weak defense were definitely on display again.

One more thing, 'pounding the strike zone' shouldn't be a foreign language to most of the SOX pitchers. Pitch count from the BP is ridiculous. I'm not including Barnes in that group.

This team will be in fourth place by the end of the week if this continues. Cora needs to have a serious pep talk with his team.

He and others have get ahead on the counts and lessen the walks, especially to weak hitters.

Tough loss, but we'll snap out of this funk eventually. Preferably sooner rather than later.

If Tampa had won, we would be 3 games out.... We need to snap out of this and fast.... We are working our way out of the playoffs and soon to be a wild card if we don't get our s*** together

My thanks to Thunder and all the upbeat contributors.

And this bulletin about my wife of 57 years who cannot really be called a fan. When she was like 9 she was taken to a double header at the old Griffith Stadium, which meant of course the Washington Senators. Sheer torture. And she has neither been to a game nor watched one on TV since. She vastly prefers reading in the sunroom, leaving my to blogging and game-watching in the study.

However, this year I have credited her with several wins because whenever she dropped in to check on the game, something good would happen. These last two games, which quickly went south, have convinced her to stay way from the study tonight.

I thought Richards was terrific last night despite the 4 BB's. Sawamura was not so hot, but was also sabotaged by our defense. Bottom line on pitching and defense is the Sox gave up 11 runs Monday night and 5 runs last night. The hitting was worse, which means the Sox were miserable for 2 straight games.
