i assume Cruz did not want to come to Boston when we resigned Pearce, and I don't care if he can't play 1B. Neither could Pearce this year

Rick's flat, mid speed straight ball flies well in the Manfred era. Verlander said today again that the ball is juiced , citing the MLB HR totals and the AAA increase of 60% over the prior year.

How can you be a MLB veteran pitcher , forget CY Young'er (hold the LOL), and have no more skill in throwing to spots, spinning the ball, low/away, up/in---whatever. It is called pitching.

Guts will only take you so far pitching in MLB an guts is all Rick has got left.

And the hitters are showing some gutless effort.

I think Taylor was simply not focused. He was all over the place with his arm slot and release point and Cora noticed it. Chewed him out and pulled him. You simply cannot afford to not be giving your best effort when your name is Josh Taylor.

Brian Johnson---every GM's dream answer to some pitching difficulties. A true sign that Cora has bought a ringside seat for the "Wait til Next Year" parade

Lot of knocking Porcello here. He has a nice two seamer and slider. His problem is location, especially of his 4 seamer. He won't be with us next year but lets hope if we replace him it will be someone as injury free as he has been. The guy has always given us a lot of innings and that has value. When he was at his best, he was very good.

By the way, our hitters have forgotten to show up tonight so we look like we would have dropped this one even if we had a stellar pitching performance by Porcello. We didn't, he got rocked and it looks like another nail in our coffin. Bring on some of our younger players.

Here's a question to ponder. Based on POR's career numbers, could he be the weakest pitcher(thrower) to ever win a CY YOUNG?

His ERA has consistently been over 4 for most of his career. This year it's over 5.

Keep in mind that short of a real rally, the Sox came into this game needing to catch and pass the Rays first . The Rays loss in Game 1 of a DH with the O's was already posted. So big opportunity, and so far absolutely no reaction in a home game. Again, gutless so far.

Biggest problem with Rick's four seam is that its got nothing. Simply can't throw it with any velo in any location. Tough sledding in MLB with no four seam at all and his is meat at this point. He is pumping 91 with that thing now and he simply cannot get it up and out of the zone as he did for that magic year and a half.

I’m always the first to defend him and I still am one of the few that want to re sign him. But damn this has been an ugly year for him. I don’t blame people for not wanting him back.

if the Twins scoring algorithm holds up, they will score 4 in the 7 inning.

How does that algorithm match up with the Sox BP 7th inning algo ?
